The closest grocery store is Food Lion located at the intersection of 421 and Old 421 across from Tractor Supply. There is RV camping and horseback riding near by at Leatherwood Mountain Resort. Elk Creek is just outside the front gate of Powder Horn and is a state stocked trout stream this is an anglers paradise make sure you get your fishing license but you will find it is some of the best fishing around! Local wineries and breweries abound including Appalachian Mountain Brewery, Boonshine Brewing, Grandfather Vineyards,Banner Elk Winery and so many others. So much to do!!!! Make sure to also check out the Lil' Hidden Creek Gem mine located about 1 miles past the back gate of Powder Horn. Call ahead and they will get mining buckets ready for the little ones!

Fitness center at the clubhouse, playground, fishing in three community ponds, (please bring your fishing poles!) Make sure you check out the campground that sits on laurel creek and is the perfect spot for a nighttime fire pit and s'mores or a game of horseshoes. Maybe an afternoon picnic! There is a tennis court and half basketball court and new in 2022 a small 6 station frisbee golf course that you can access at the post office (bring your frisbees!) There are community paddle boats available for free on the lake by the clubhouse during the warmer months and they aree first come first serve! You are welcome to bring your own kayak or canoe and set in at Penny Lake as well!

Nice mountain getaway

Appreciated the small touches (bags for our pup, pods to use for the dishwasher and laundry) that made this property a nice spot to explore nature. Enjoyed the hiking trails and swimming holes in the neighborhood. Very comfortable.

Remote(ish)

The cabin is one of the smallest on the park, which suited us fine (just 3 people and a dog). In the cabin it doesn't feel like a park, views are great and deer is walking right past. The house is cozy and the kitchen well stocked. The trails were neither well signed, nor very accessible (tried to anyway, but would not recommend during fall or winter). The access through the gate with a code - we didn't get it to work, neither did other guests (for another cabin).
