About the host
Hosted by julie jacobs 231-620-6484

I am a retired physician, from California originally but have spent almost 20 years in Michigan, with a Bed and Breakfast in Suttons Bay from 1995 to 2003, and now have been in Manistee since 2023. I love having guests from all over the world and love Manistee, with the most beautiful beaches in Michigan, 4,000 acres of national forest and lakes adjacent to the town, good restaurants, shops and peace and quiet.
I love to cook and have left a completely equipped kitchen for you, with coffee presses and well as coffee machines, waffle makers, a large gas oven, dishwasher, place settings for 10 in colorful classical dinnerware, a range of large pots and kitchen appliances including blenders, and staples like flour, sugar, fresh fruits in season, a spice rack with 20 spices, cooking oils, microwave, large refrigerator, portable cooler and a gas Barbecue, outdoor cooking implements and an assortment of wine glasses.

Why they chose this property
Downtown Manistee is lovely, on a canal with wonderful views and is full of shops, a museum and great library and lots of great community and art events year around. The town is very easy to get to, on a well maintained state road, and the farming communities nearby are welcoming and picturesque.
What makes this property unique
This house was built in 1900 and is one of a large number of Victorians in the neighborhood. Manistee was the American city with the most millionaires per capita in the ENTIRE US in 1900. The town's lumbering industry rebuilt Chicago after the fires in the 1880 and made the town into a prosperous community of fine houses.
My house has .8 acre of gardens, a wooded glen for your use, outdoor seating and cooking facilities, a fenced yard for pets, quiet streets and lovely views, restaurants ranging from local cuisine with fish and local specialties to Mediterranean, Asian and several pizza places.
There are two great local markets where you can ask for special cuts of meat.
The beaches here are expansive, stretching for miles above and below Manistee. Some allow dogs, with supervision. Some of the beaches are in protected public lands.
There is fishing from the three breakwaters, and you can also charter a boat and spend the day (or night) fishing on clean, freshwater Lake Michigan. The open waters extend from Manistee almost 60 miles to the Wisconsin shores.
There is a ferry which travels from Luddington, about 20 miles away, to Manitowoc, Wisconsin from May until October on a regular daily schedule. You can take your car and spend the day exploring Wisconsin and return to sleep in beautiful Manistee, or spend the night in Wisconsin's lovely small towns.
There is boat rental in the area, from canoes and kayaks to charter boats, to enable you to explore the huge Manistee National Forest. The tributaries of the Manistee River reach back a hundred miles or more, to Gaylord in the north, and include several large lakes, camping and fishing and hiking, and skiing in winter.
All of have to do here is walk out the front door of your house, 1/2 mile to the beach or downtown, to be in the middle of another wonderful adventure. Let us know how we can help you! You can call anytime for expert information. Let us help you with your adventure and your other plans.
