This rustic large cottage is located in a quiet, private area in the Cape Cod National Seashore, just 1/4 mile to Bound Brook Island Beach. Located in the woods, it is a cottage for those who wish to be "one with nature". It is a two bedroom, but can sleep 6 with the extra loft sleeping area. Located on the main level are the living, dining and kitchen areas. There is a small deck and a lovely brick patio where you can enjoy outdoor dining and relaxing. In the sunroom is also a double futon for extra sleeping. There are twin beds in the upper level and on the lower level, is a full bath with a tub and a bedroom with a king sized bed. There is also an extra sleeping area with a queen sized bed available in the loft accessed through a pull down ladder in the living area. The second bathroom with tub is accessible via the terrace door. The outdoor enclosed shower is a wonderful addition. **NOTE: Road to house is a long, dirt road for a couple miles. One lane traffic. SUV or higher clearance car recommended. Please be aware that road access to the home may be temporarily limited due to storm surge or weather conditions. We recommend checking local updates and planning accordingly.** Also, Mosquito Squad regularly treats this property and homeowner welcomes input and feedback if additional treatments are needed. Non-refundable $250.00 fee (includes administrative fee and damage waiver assurance) plus applicable state and local taxes. Linens not provided. Guests may rent linens or bring their own.

Very tricky getting in and out.But I live in the woods and I think that it was really neat. But the place needs a lot of maintenance.
Comfortable, well equipped house in a great location if you want to get away from it all. It’s a slow bumpy ride down to the very end of a long dirt road. My husband loved it; my friend staying in P-town said there was no way she could stay so far away from civilization. The patio comes with a view, grill, fire pit and its own bathroom (!), and the sunroom looking out at the marsh is also great for hanging out. It’s a 10 min walk to an equally quiet part of the bay beach. The furnishings are nothing to get excited about but there’s a comfortable bed and pretty much everything you could want for cooking. Good for a couple or family as both upstairs rooms are open lofts.

Repeat renter here. The setting never disappoints. A quiet and peaceful location. Plenty of space and privacy to enjoy being outdoors. A short walk to an amazing bay beach, perfect for long walks, swimming, sunbathing, and sunset viewing. I feel close to nature here. The house is comfortable and the rental agency is very responsive. Just a short drive to Provincetown. Payomet performance center is close by. The mosquitos were not too bad this year. The salt marsh is in effect!

What a magical place! A beautiful 18th-century house in the middle of the National Seashore, utterly private and remote, just a 5-minute' walk from the bay. Though the house is more than two centuries old, it is comfortable and well-equipped, from ample bedrooms to wireless Internet access. A large brick terrace in front of the house, overlooking flower beds and fruit trees, has comfortable chairs and tables, a barbecue, and a fire pit. Outside the kitchen in the back, a large glass table & umbrella make a lovely shady place for breakfast and a late-night get-together spot after the kids have gone to bed. A relaxing hammock nearby was enjoyed by the kids. The owner promptly dealt with an early check-in problem. We will be back next year.

Reviewer Comments:
Given the general condition of this simple and old house, the price of the rental would be exorbitant, if it weren't for the astounding location. This is not for everyone, but it is very attractive for visitors who love solitude and wilderness. View of a salt marsh and short walk to the beach. The mosquito problem (due to breeding in the many stagnant salt pools) was apparently beyond awful a few years ago (and you still get attacked during your walk to the beach); but there is larvicide spraying (among other measures, I believe), and the situation around the house is acceptable.
We loved everything about this house! The road down to the house was not as bad as some reviews made it seem, though an SUV will do better than a sedan. The property has beautiful views of the marsh/ocean and is very private and secluded; there is another house on the property but you would never know it if you didn't go looking for it. Though the house is not large, the high ceilings made it feel very open and comfortable. It had all of the amenities we needed (aside from an A/C but they provide tons of fans to make it comfortable).
Our only issue was with the check-in process. There are two houses at this address but no signage on the property differentiating the two houses, and the check-in codes are the same, so we ended up in the wrong house at first! Luckily this was quickly resolved and everything was perfect after that. My only suggestion would be to provide very specific directions/instructions to guests so they don't make the same mistake we did!
We will definitely be back!

This property is ideal for couples or adult friends who value seclusion and natural beauty over amenities. It's a great place to read or sit around a fire or enjoy a nearly private beach. The property has been upgraded a few times over the years and has an interesting history. There's not a lot of privacy inside the house, and you'll feel a bit on top of each other if your group has more than four people. The road to get there is pretty wild - you'll wish you had an SUV if you don't have one. It's great if you want to experience the uncivilized side of the outer cape. One night we were sitting by the fire when the coyotes started howling nearby. It was kind of spooky and also pretty amazing.

This property will not be for everybody, but if you have a good sense of adventure, it may well be for you. The house is located towards the end of a mile-long, rutted, single lane dirt road (but 4-wheel drive is not necessary). The house used to be an old ice house with much of the wood planking preserved and heat delivered by a pot-bellied stove. There is an intriguing 3 to 4 mile loop trail right outside the back door. The beach is a 200 yard hike down the road and across the dunes. The beach is beautiful and, more importantly, not well used. There are loads of beach hiking adventures to be had in the immediate National Seashore area. Wellfleet is a perfect scenic Cape Cod seaside village (make sure to try the locally caught shellfish). Overall, we had a great time.

The cottage is in a remote location. If you don't like crowds this place is for you! The beach was almost empty on the 4th of July! Make sure to bring a bug repellent!
We absolutely loved this house and location!
The house itself is very charming - it has so much history to it, which we always appreciate. This of course means it's not the spiffiest, newest home with all the latest and greatest appliances and such - if that's what you're searching for, look elsewhere. But if you're looking for something homey that meets simple needs and fits a lot of adults, this house is perfect! (I wouldn't recommend it for children, as there are a lot of levels and noise travels easily throughout the entire home.)
The location is wonderful if you're looking to get away from civilization - which is precisely what we wanted. It is tucked away on Bound Brook "Island" (it was originally a real island until they dammed it up a century ago, but now they are restoring it to be an island once again!), and you have to drive about 5 minutes on a fairly rough road (our group had a small SUV and a small sedan, both were completely fine, you simply have to make sure to go slowly). Once you make it, you likely will only hear nature for the duration of your stay! The stars are astonishingly clear, it's so fantastic to sit and stare at them while next to the fire pit outside.
The bayside beach is about a 15 minute walk from the house, but do keep in mind the mosquitos are pretty vicious, as it is marshland. We chose to drive the 2 minutes to the beach entrance when we went, which resulted in far less mosquito bites.
Overall, if you're looking for a restorative remote getaway where you can commune with nature, I recommend staying here!

Reviewer Comments:
We secured this rental last winter when COVID infections were spreading rapidly, in the hopes that we would be far from the hustle and bustle of town and crowds. The location of this house did not disappoint in that regard--it is very private, woodsy, and peaceful. But the mosquitos were so bad, we could not enjoy the outdoor spaces or the outdoor shower. We were also not able to walk to the beach because the mosquitos were relentless, even after covering every inch of our skin and spraying ourselves down with mosquito repellent. The house itself is rustic and unique, but very dusty. Upon our arrival, the bath mats in the shower/toilet area clearly had not been laundered, and the mirror above the bathroom sink had not been cleaned after the last guests. We felt the need to do some cleaning and wiping down of some surfaces before settling in. As expected, being in the woods, the house has lots of spiders and insect inhabitants, but many of the screens are also old and have large holes and gaps to allow them in. The house is advertised as having two bathrooms, but it only has one (unless the outdoor shower is considered a bathroom). The property management company was great and even called to check on us after the remnants of Hurricane Ida came through. (The house held up great with all the rain, by the way.)

Reviewer Comments:
This property is billed as a short walk to the bay. True, except that the short walk is through a thicket of mosquitoes making it next to impossible to walk to the bay. The mosquitoes adjacent to the cottage were acceptable prior to rain but just getting to the car was horrible. I honestly think this property should not be rented at this time.

Unique property. Very private, surrounded by nature, yet a short drive to markets and restaurants. We stayed in late September and most days were sharing the beach with only one or two other parties.
This rental home exceeded our expectations in regards to amenities and location. The house itself, although oddly laid out, offers a number of spaces on different levels so folks can spread out. The king bedroom with a view is flooded with light during the day. Outside the house is a patio area with fire pit and gas grill, picnic table and chairs. At night there is ambient outdoor lighting and tiki torches. We really enjoyed the hammock and the awesome outdoor shower with plenty of hot water. Just a short walk away is the most amazing bayside beach, Bound Brook Island Beach. Sparsely populated even on warm summer days, the beach faces west, allowing for sunsets over the water. Not bad for the East Coast! There were seals in the water but no shark sightings during our stay. The dunes surrounding the beach are also fun to explore. Overall this was a very pleasant late summer week on the Cape.

Beautiful, private, but beware the driveway.
Beautiful, quiet, private, walking distance to the magical Bound Brook Island beach. House is cute and easily accommodated our family of 4 preteen/teens and 2 dogs. Delicious wild blackberries all over the place. Only negative is the driveway which is kind of terrifying. 7 minutes to pavement, bottomed out a few times. Other than that, it is idyllic.

As advertized
This converted barn/icehouse is at the end of several miles of rutted dirt roads. The delightful walk to the nearly empty beach is through the woods and doons, lined with berries and poison ivy. The reality company was very responsive to the issues that arose...the lack of WiFi, the non-working oven, the leaky roof during torrential downpours. The house is awkward: bed rooms and baths on different levels, rickety pull down ladder to loft room, keyhole kitchen, uneven lighting... That being said, however, it is fully functional, well supplied with much needed fans, and affords several outdoor seating areas with shade and breezes. The weedy,(I spent an hour pulling weeds so that I could sweep the debris away) brick patio, however is not of them! Although I imagine it being delightful on cool, sunny days. None of these issues came as a surprise, and the house offered us a private, pleasant, affordable place near a lovely beach.

Know that you are one with nature
When my family visits the cape we usually aim for "the elbow" because its near all the stuff we like to do. This year we went a little further and stayed here in Wellfleet. If you are considering this place, know that you will be almost into Truro and that you are deep in the National Seashore. There is a long, rutted, sandy dirt road to get in (from a paved road) and a long grassy rutted "lane" and this house is the last one on it. It can be rough on your car. Compare it to staying in other pristine natural places around the country- Big Sur comes to mind, the Adirondacks, adjust your attitude thusly and you won't be disappointed. Cell reception is spotty to absent and wifi comes from the main house over a hill and is also spotty. This was fine for my husband and I- the kids had some tech withdrawal. You can walk back down the country lane and hike a short dune path to Bound Brook island beach which is a beautiful bay beach perfect for swimming, shell hunting, kite flying. Seals will pop up their heads to see what you are doing. There is no lifeguard. We had walkie talkies so we could radio back to our house when we wanted to be in touch- this worked better than cell. The house is a former ice house and barn that was made over in the 70s It still has that funky vibe. There is a loft with a fold down ladder that has a queen size bed- The owners might consider sometime making that staircase permanent so it's less rickety. We kept it down the whole time we stayed. There is another loft like space with 2 twins accessible by a staircase and my daughter preferred to use the futon downstairs on the main level. There are 2 bathrooms, we mostly used the downstairs one and the outside one was there if that other was occupied. The house was extraordinarily clean and maintained for what it is - a cabin in the woods. Expect some bugs, there are frogs that hang out on the patio at night, and deer- one jumped over the front of our car. My advy is to bring what you will need with you when you go because it's hard to run out for something. This is more remote than say, Orleans or Eastham where you can run to stop n shop. If you have provisions for that first day it will be easier. Moms, there is washer and dryer. Caution to people with health issues or elderly persons maybe to choose another place because of the spotty cell service- and remote location. There is a land line in the house, though. We would stay again 😉

Wonderful house tucked away in a quiet corner near the bay
We stayed here with two adults and two small kids and we all loved it. It's a really special little place, quiet and tucked away from the hubub of the Route 6 drag. Simple and rustic but quiet, and peaceful. We loved the outdoor shower and the proximity to the bay beach. Amazing sunsets all week! We didn't have mosquito or other problems during our stay (early August). Lots of little nooks inside the house and out - different hammocks for reading, different tables so that at any point of the day, there is a shady spot to sit and eat. The house got a bit warm on the humid days, but we could clear out the hot air with fans at night. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a quiet getaway on the Cape!

Wonderful Stay in National Seashore!
Our family has stayed at this cottage many times over the years, usually in July or August (off season last time), and it is very dear to us. It is located deep inside the National Seashore, and is extremely private and quiet, the loudest sounds being the wind in the pine trees. A wonderful place to unwind, sit on the brick patio and relax, read, listen to the birds and take in the natural beauty all around. A few minutes’ walk down a sandy lane brings you to what is in our opinion most beautiful beach on the East Coast, the Bound Brook Island beach where even in August there are few other people, just gentle waves lapping on the shore, sand pipers and gulls. Other walks in the National Seashore are at your doorstep. And pop your bikes on your bike rack and a few minutes journey brings you to the Head of the Meadow Beach bike trail in Truro or to Provincetown's National Seashore trails, or to the fresh water ponds on the ocean side of Rte. 6 if you prefer fresh-water swimming. Or stay at home and pick wild blueberries or beach plums by the side of the private driveway and treat your family to blueberry muffins or beach plum jelly. The spot is as lovely in October, in a different way, as it is in summer.
We found that the cottage itself is ideal for a family, as there are actually three bedrooms (one on a loft above the living room), and a sun room area with desk, chair and futon. Everyone in our family had a favorite area to hang out in. There is a well-equipped kitchen and even a washing machine and dryer. It is a place with a lot of character, with a modern wing attached to a 19th century part that was once an icehouse for fish caught at Duck Harbor, and that was part of one of Bound Brook Island’s most historic farms – so definitely not a cookie-cutter kind of place! The owners are extremely responsive and we never have had any issues that interfered with our wonderful vacations. Highly recommended!
