Everything was perfect. Very nice finishes, clean and great communication from host. Tv could have been alittle larger but everything else was perfect and it was a nice week spent at the house.
This is our second stay at the Lighthouse and we will be coming back. Awesome house with plenty of space, a phenomenal view and walking distance to the awesome Fitzgerald's Restaurant.
Overall, we were blown away by the entire trip. Jan the property manager was amazing to work with - she responded quickly and was very detailed in her instructions and recommendations for local spots. We brought our snowmobiles and this location is very close to trail 151, plus there was plenty of space for our jeep, trailer, and snowmobile parking. The interior design is beautiful and the front sun room with views of Lake Superior is my favorite part. Absolutely recommend this place to anyone who loves the beauty and history of northern Michigan. We hope to be back!
Beautiful property!
Very nicely remodeled and comfortable spaces! Perfect for 3 couples color touring in the Keweenaw. Beautiful sunset and northern light views over Lake Superior. Nice touches with fresh flowers, and local treats! Will definitely be back!
We both were frazzled from life and after a 14 hour trip to Eagle River, it was pure heaven! The house was immaculate. It is spacious and very tastefully and minimally decorated to reflect the area and history. The kitchen had everything! Our favorite room was the “library,” with an absolutely stunning view of the lake, sunsets, and town. We opened both French doors and had the most delicious west-east breeze all day and night.(I even slept there 2nights!) The drives to Eagle Harbor and Copper Harbor were easy and scenic, with numerous places to pull off to explore and take pictures. Never once turned on the TV. The books were fantastic The bed was super-comfortable. I even spotted 2 large Yooperlites about 3-4 feet out in the surf one night, but due to my unsteady footing, could not reach them.
The only suggestion I would have (and this coming from one with unsteady walking) is to have non-slip strips on the edges of the steps leading down into the lower rooms. The painted steps can be slippery in sock feet.
We will be sharing our stay with friends and highly recommending this place to others. Thank you for the experience!
Historic Lighthouse is thoughtfully furnished, to the smallest detail.
Property managers Virginia and Jan are quick to respond and very accommodating.

The Lighthouse is perfect in every way! The host went above and beyond to make sure that we had every comfort imaginable, including local bread, syrup, and fresh flowers. The Lighthouse is extremely clean, very well maintained and perfect for enjoying the natural beauty of the area. The bed linens, pillows, hand soaps and towels were exceptional and made for a wonderful nights rest. We highly recommend this outstanding property!
We splurged on this rental, and it was quite worth the cost. Such a beautifully appointed home. The bright white furniture in each room of the home gave the place an open and airy feel. The kitchen had everything we needed, including cinnamon bread and pure maple syrup for making delicious french toast. We spent time on the shore and enjoyed the short walk to The Fitzgerald for dinner. Our only suggestion would be to upgrade the one small Direct TV in the home to a larger smart TV. Perhaps a second in the bedroom as well.
The place is immaculate. Even the potted plants are perfect. Not a dead leaf or flower...We used the Master Suite and I loved the shower. The bed was perfect. Bonus gift of breakfast makings. The sun room was so relaxing and cozy. Fire pit was great for the evening. Make sure you bring food as there are no stores anywhere. Wish we didn't live so far away. Would love to return. The lighthouse part was a fun addition too.
We really enjoyed our stay at the lighthouse. The location was great. The kids found Yooperlite rocks on the beach nearby. We had everything we needed and the house is beautifully decorated. We would definitely return.
We had an awesome time at the Lighthouse! It was well stocked with all of the extra things we could need, the vibe was so mellow and relaxing, and the spaces were perfect for a getaway!
We loved the mixture of the historic origins of the building and the top notch upgrades in the baths and kitchen. Would recommend this property with two thumbs up!
The lighthouse and the property were beautiful, clean, and well-maintained. We loved the sun room and the herd of deer that came right up next to the deck to graze. The town seems relatively empty this time of year and many businesses were closed, but we didn’t mind the quiet and had a very relaxing weekend. Would definitely stay here again!
Very clean and owner was super responsive. We really enjoyed our stay!

About the host
Hosted by Virginia Cole
Bud and Jan Cole, a brother/sister team, hail from six generations of UP natives and lovers. Both share a passion for the history, pristine natural beauty and people of the Keweenaw Peninsula. Together, they work to restore historic properties to their full potential, incorporating old world charm with contemporary sensibility. Their appreciation of the area translates into a willingness to guide you to splendid trails and back country, historic venues full of fact and legend, and a easy place to enjoy a meal with friends and family at the end of the day.
Why they chose this property
The Cole family spent summer vacations on Eagle River's shores. Fond memories birthed a desire to invest in the community. Once owned by their great great aunt's daughter, the Eagle River Lighthouse offered a rare and special opportunity to preserve a vital part of Eagle River's history while providing a venue for new families and friends to create special memories.
What makes this property unique
The Eagle River Lighthouse is absolutely unique in its history and presentation. It was commissioned by the US Government to guide ships along Lake Superior's Keweenaw coast. Built in 1855 completely of red stone, it housed the light keeper and his family. The light was decommissioned in 1909 and the property sold into private ownership. The partners wanted to preserve the building's character and share its legacy as a beacon with others who treasure history and the splendor of lighthouses.
