Pure serenity!

This place is full of rustic charm, beautiful scenery, cozy nooks and stories - whether told by Kelly himself, through his vast library of books or the gallery of photographs taken by Kelly in each cabin. Our family of 10 had the most amazing stay. Highlights for us included the sauna cabin located right on the creek, cold plunge pond, the spa-like Waterhouse cabin and walking the trails through the canyon and along the creek. Kelly was the best host who became a fast family friend. His passion, work ethic and vision left us all inspired. Thank you for the memories!

A picturesque Colorado Mountain retreat

The End of Road Ranch gave my mom the most magical birthday she could dream of. My 2 year old was in absolute heaven between the hiking, the horses, s’mores by the campfire and the river to throw rocks into. We all got the chance to slow down, connect and have a beautiful mountain retreat that we will never forget. Thank you to John Kelly for building this amazing place and opening it up for us to stay. We all left completely inspired!

Memorable times

Two families and an intimate wedding in idyllic surroundings. End of the Road and John Kelly provided a pastoral backdrop with open fields, rumbling creek, Mountain Views, magic light, access to trails, stunning individual cabins. We brought good food, drink, music and caring open minds . It is work to create our own wedding venue but for us that was part of the fun. The result exceeded all expectations and etched forever memories laced with laughter and comraderie and many many wondrous moments including the plunge pool. We’ll be talking about the experience forever more….

Great private ranch property

We stayed at the ranch to celebrate a family wedding, and the setting could not have been more perfect. John welcomed us and showed us around, and then we had the place to ourselves. Nobody wanted to leave! This is a gorgeous place to unwind and reconnect. We especially enjoyed the sauna cabin and the plunge pond!

Best weekend

This property was exactly what we needed to celebrate our marriage! We loved the views and the personality in each cabin. Gathering around the fire at night was memorable & jumping into the pond after a sauna session was unforgettable. We hope to come back again in the future!

Wonderful Property

We've stayed at this property for 3 years in a row. It's in a beautiful location, very relaxing, is fairly close to town for needed grocery items, and is next door to many hiking opportunities. We always enjoy our chats with the owner who is very responsive.

Wonderful EVERYTHING !

Beautiful ranch setting with all the amenities imaginable for a "country" family reunion. John has created a magical place. His very interesting Life Stories and his tips about what to do in the area added to the whole experience for each of us. I'm already looking forward to when we can have our next reunion there.

Wonderful Getaway

This was an amazing place to unwind after the holidays. You can’t help but feel at peace in this serene environment. The time, love and energy that John Kelly has put into his home does not go unnoticed. Everyone in our group was blown away by the beauty of the surrounding area and the craftsmanship of the entire property. His home is truly a gem and I feel lucky that we got to experience it for a few days. Thank you for a lovely stay! We could not have asked for a better place and our expectations were far exceeded.

Loved everything about our visit out to the End of the Road Ranch!!!!

This property is magical, everywhere you look the attention to detail is beyond words. Our time at the ranch was peaceful and relaxing and there was no reason for us to leave once we arrived. There is beauty at every turn and we found ourselves in awe of it all. We hiked the property and played in the creek, cooked over open fire (Thanks to owner Kelly) and in the well equipped kitchen, relaxed in the Waterhouse spa cabin, enjoyed the beautiful horses, and of course the owners dogs too. Kelly, the owner shared so many fascinating stories and his love of the ranch, life and people and we feel grateful for the opportunity to have stayed in such a magical place. I know we will back as this place truly is paradise. Thank you Kelly for everything and for creating and sharing this magical ranch!!!

A Magical Place

End of the Road Ranch is a magical place, made more magical by the owner John Kelly. The sprawling property nestled into the mountains is perfect for getting away from it all, whether with a few people or for a family gathering - like mine was. There's several outdoor activities to do on the ranch so you never have to leave. You can also relax in one of the several cabins, all of which have their own unique character. You'll reluctantly leave feeling recharged, refreshed, and ready to plan your return trip back to the ranch. John Kelly was extremely accommodating and enjoyable during our stay and during my family's shenanigans. His knowledge of and passion for the property and the world in general is an extra gem that you'll get to enjoy while staying on his ranch. End of the Roach Ranch is a very special place that my family and I are looking forward to returning to. Thank you for sharing your place with us, John Kelly!

End of the Road Ranch beauty!

End of the Road Ranch provided the escape that replenished the soul. We had 8 adults 3 toddlers. Each cabin provided a retreat. The family enjoyed the beauty of the ranch with no desire to return to town. We spent the days hiking, playing games and having fun. Lt John Kelly made us feel at home. He is an excellent host. The years of improvements of the ranch showed the love put into the property. Thank you for a wonderful time. We would be renting this again.

Pure Beauty and Relaxation

This is our second visit to the Ranch and enjoy every minute of it. Time flies doing nothing or doing everything! The sounds of the river are relaxing and soothing. The property is beautiful and fun to explore or just a joy to view. Its always a pleasure to chat with the owner, Kelly, who makes you feel right at home. Our dog loves visiting the horses but I can't say the horses feel the same!

What an amazing experience!

This was absolutely the best family vacation my family and I have ever been on. Actually, I think it's the best vacation I have EVER been on! The property is unbelievably perfect in every way. The river, the cabins, the open spaces, I can't believe that we got the chance to stay here for five nights. Kelly was also the most gracious host. He spent time showing and telling us all sorts of things cabin, art, photography and sports related. He also made several regional destination recommendations that all turned out to be top notch. I would 100% recommend this property to anyone who wants to get away from it all. Even if you never leave the property, which I highly recommend, you will leave feeling refreshed and soothed from the ranch, the air and mr. Kelly himself. The Allreds

Paradise on Earth

Pictures do not do this place justice. I didn't think places like this existed. You know you found a great place when your Colorado Born and Bred relatives are blown away by the place picked out by their Illinois flatland relatives. This place should be on everyones Bucket List. A true experience like no other. All the great stuff other reviewers have posted is spot on, if not an understatement. We shall return someday. This is a perfect place to bring a group of friends or families where you can all hang yet still have private time and your own space. Now if only I can win the Powerball and then convince Kelly to let me buy the place someday from him! It's unreal what he has created here.

Truly, heaven on earth

I can't say praise high enough for this place. We've stayed here now two years in a row, and the versatility of places, rooms, artwork, entertainment, vistas, etc. are just beyond words. All made possible by Kelly, who is a Grade A+++ host. This has quickly become our annual recharging station, refilling our creative and spiritual wellsprings like no other place has.

Lieutenant Kelly went above and beyond to make our Wedding magical!

Words can not even begin to describe how HIGHLY we recommend End of The Road Ranch! This is our second review and second stay at End of the Road Ranch and as with our first stay, was beyond our wildest imagination. But this visit was particularity special as we got to share the ranch with 24 of our closest friends and family for our Wedding! Per usual the property owner, Lieutenant Kelly, went above and beyond to make our big day magical. He spent countless hours preparing the property for our Wedding, grooming the ranch to make it picture perfect, provided catering recommendations, and even connected us with the photographer we ended up using, Charles Engelbert (who we also highly recommend.) Kelly even let us coordinate a pre-trip to plan the big day with our vendors ahead of time. The property itself is exquisite and Kelly has poured his heart and soul into End of The Road Ranch; and you can tell in the details of this one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Whether you're looking for a couple's retreat or your next event, End of The Road Ranch is sure to satisfy and exceed your dreamiest expectations to the full extent of the phrase. Much love to Kelly and Toni! - Caleb and Alex

Magical stay!

We stayed at the ranch at the end of August and had an amazing time. Kelly was the perfect host - we loved chatting with him about the story of the ranch, his art, books, photography, and music. We spent our four days hiking, cooking on the outdoor fire, and relaxing. It really was heaven. We can't wait to go back.

A Re*Treat* Indeed

I cannot imagine a more beautiful or restorative location for our staff retreat than End of the Road Ranch. The cozy atmosphere of the cabins created an environment where we could buckle down and truly focus on the topics we had gathered to discuss, while the secluded location provided an idyllic setting for refreshing walks and reflection. Whether drifting asleep listening to the soft rush of a creek, having lively discussions around the old family dining table, or strolling underneath the gold, whispering aspens, End of the Road Ranch provided memorable experience. Kelly himself was welcoming and provided a detailed history of the property and his work on it. He also kindly took the time to talk with us by phone to ensure that the property would fully meet our expectations. We had a wonderful stay and hope to return again in the future! Note: Depending on your cell phone provider, you may not have phone coverage at the ranch. This can help make for an extra-relaxed experience, but visitors should plan accordingly.

Unbelievable

As others have already gushed about Kelly and his magical ranch, I am about to add yet another glowing review to the collection. We booked our stay at the End of the Road Ranch to stay over Christmas. A beloved member of our family had passed away earlier in the year and this was going to be a tough one, so we thought a change of scenery might keep us from focusing on our loss. No such luck. Our lost love one was a craftsman of wood and a storyteller, and as Kelly (the owner) told his amazing life stories and shared all of the intricate details of every building on his ranch, we were more aware of how much our beloved would have enjoyed being there with us. This place truly is beyond words and Kelly is a fascinating person who is kind enough to take the time to talk about the ranch's history, his painstaking care in the ranch's creation and interesting details of his career. In the main house, there is literally everything you need to cook anything. Kelly chuckled a bit when we brought our own cast iron skillet and crock pot since he had more than enough cooking gear already. There is no phone service (which is great if you want a real get away) and some wifi (though it was not always reliable)- again no problem, if your goal is to unplug and unwind. We rented the whole ranch and enjoyed having our family of 4 in the main house. My husband and I enjoyed the beautiful view from the large, comfortable bedroom upstairs. Our two boys slept in the tv room downstairs (one on the couch and one on the single bed. They were both comfortable and enjoyed the space. My mom had the privilege of staying in the water house. She was happy to be surrounded by the lush foliage and enjoyed the powerful shower and soaking in the deep tub. My brother and his fiancee stayed in the bunkhouse. They loved having their own kitchen and clawfoot tub and we joked that they could have brought 4 of their closest friends since there was enough sleeping space for that many people (hence the name "bunk house"). We took advantage of the wood heated sauna and the wonderful hiking trails along the river and into the national park. If you want a one of a kind lodging experience and are fortunate enough to rent this ranch, you will not regret it.

Quiet Hideaway

We needed to get away from the city and settled upon this mountain hideaway for our last minute long weekend trip. While some VRBO property owners are tough to coordinate with on short notice, John was accommodating and flexible from the first phone call and all the way through the weekend. He greeted us at the entrance to his property which is nestled up in a sunny mountain valley, we were fortunate enough to have bluebird skies in the dead of winter all weekend. He gave us a great tour of the main house, bath house and sauna cabin and also described to us the history of the house and land itself. It was so cool to know the colorful background of our temporary home away from home and made it very clear how much work John had put into building and maintaining it over the years. I felt very at home the minute I arrived, and more importantly my 100 lb chocolate lab clearly did too. This place is a dog's dream. I'm not sure if he was happier splashing in the river that runs alongside the house, chasing the wild turkeys in the fields, or curled up in front of the fireplace at bed time, but he definitely enjoyed himself even more than I did. We had the perfect weekend tucked away from the hustle of the city. John, thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality, stories, and life advice, we will most certainly visit again in the future.
