About this property

100yr home with peaceful 1940s vibe and modern amenities in historic downtown.

Enjoy a comfortable, peaceful, uncluttered escape from a fast-paced life in this sweet little 100-year-old 2-bedroom home. Decorated with the 1940s in mind, when things were slower and simpler, this home is a perfect place to relax while enjoying the charming shops, activities, and restaurants of Mineola and the surrounding towns. It's just two blocks behind the quaint, historic downtown area, and within walking distance of good food, fun shopping, history-filled locations (including The Historic Select Theater that has been in continuous operation for over 100 years), and the Amtrak. If fishing and water is what you enjoy, there are several large lakes just a short drive away.

For nature lovers, the Mineola Nature Preserve is less than five miles down the road. The nearby towns offer even more historic sites, antique shops, unique boutiques, and the must see to believe Canton's First Monday Trade Days.

The bedrooms are large and have private seating areas. Both bedrooms have access to private or semi-private bathrooms (the main bathroom in the master bedroom has a hall entrance that can be locked to make it private). A beautiful walk-in shower with a shower bench and grab-bars are in the main bathroom, and the second bedroom has a cute little powder room attached. Both bedrooms have spacious closets, extra blankets, and extra pillows.

There is a TV in the living room that has Roku for your streaming needs (it requires your account information, but it is automatically deleted at checkout trough the guest mode function). A DVD player is available as well.

The kitchen is fully modernized and functional for any cooking, serving, and dining needs you might have. There is a full set of WWII era antique China available for use, as well as casual dish and cookware.

There is a small writing desk in the front bedroom for your work or study needs. The WiFi is strong and reliable.

The dining room can comfortably seat six at the table for dinner, puzzles, or games (some games, cards, puzzles and dominos are available for use).

The neighborhood is safe, quiet, and peaceful. The rockers on the front porch are the perfect place for coffee and birdsong. It will transport you to another era.

Although there is no washer/dryer available in the home at this time, there is a clean and safe 24-hour laundromat only one mile away.

If you enjoy working out on your stays away from your home gym, there are two local gyms that offer daily rates only minutes away.

Come enjoy your new favorite place to visit!

About the host

My family is 3rd generation Mineola born, but I was raised in Dallas. We made our way back to where we belong as my parents aged, and now this is my home. Hospitality is what I do best, and I love sharing my home when I'm away working at the job that pays the bills.

Why they chose this property

This is my family home. My mother chose this house because of the century old Camilla bush that dominated the corner of the front porch. Over the decades it had been grafted with two other varieties and sported three different colored blooms each winter. The ice storm that devastated Texas in 2021 almost killed it, and much was lost, but it was determined to live and has started blooming again! It now only has two of the three varieties, as we lost one of the grafts, and is growing again. The porch is still my favorite place to be when I am home, as it was with my mother. The neighbors are friendly, and it is the perfect place for coffee and bird watching.

What makes this property unique

This home is about 100 years old and retains most of the Craftsman features from the original build. It is newly renovated and has all the modern amenities you want yet retains that pre-war charm from the 30s. It is decorated with the 40s in mind, but with well-loved comfortable antiques that are nice to look at yet completely functional. The home is a very short walk from the historic downtown square and all the entertainment, shopping, and food it offers. This home is uncluttered and will transport you to a time when life moved slower.
