One of Chilmark's most stately and classic Captains House, THE BLUE BARQUE has been thoughtfully and fashionably edited and updated with every modern comfortin modern farmhouse style.The house is in a central location on South Road, behind stone walls and amidst large acreage. One can enjoy a brief walk or ride to a private beach on Chilmark's South shore. There is also easy access to Chilmark's famous Lucy Vincent Beach and Squibnocket Beach, with the purchase of a car or walk-on pass at the Chilmark Town Hall. Menemsha Fishing Village and Beach is just around the corner ,with interesting shops, fish markets and eateries.
There are four comfortable bedrooms, plus a queen sofa bed on the sunporch, updated with antiques, paintings ,a bright color palette ,and comfortable furnishings. A thoughtful renovation and reimagining includes, a gourmet cook's kitchen ,screened porch and sunny living room, two large living rooms in total, outdoor deck and patio, central AC and every amenity. There are large, comfortable spaces indoors and out for relaxation and fun. The location is conveniently situated between two nearby villages. West Tisbury, is the location of the Farmer's Market ,Antique and Artisan Fairs ,and Alley's Store and Farm Stand. Nearby ,are the Library and Community Center and popular 7A Foods Shop. Further down South Road ,is Middleton Village with an Apothecary, Beauty Salon, offices, the popular State Road Restaurant, West Tisbury Post Office and Cronig's Up Island Market.
A short distance away, in the other direction, is Chilmark Center, Lucy Vincent Beach and Chilmark Community Center, Chilmark Store, local farm stands and eateries, and a charming New England seaside village, called Menemsha, with fresh fish markets, shops, restaurants, food stands and a legendary sunset. A gate key provides access to private Hancock Beach on the South shore, and is only a few moments from the house, 8/10 mile down a sandy lane. Great stay on the island
We spent a long weekend here in Chilmark. It was our first visit to MV. The house was very well equipped and the owner was very accessible and helpful. We enjoyed the sunroom, the firepit and grill. The house has lots of character, with nice antiques and artwork. Would definitely return!

Lovely Chilmark Retreat
This was our third stay at Blue Barq. The property is spacious enough for the seven of us, the kitchen is clean and well equipped, the private beach is spectacular, and Lucinda, the property manager is welcoming and accommodating. The location, within beautiful Chilmark, is also convenient to other island towns. Highly recommend.

Perfect Farmhouse
This is the perfect farmhouse with a serene yard in an unbeatable location. We loved going to the private beach and having easy access to the Grey Barn, Menemsha and the Chilmark Tavern. The house does not seem like a rental but like my dream house!

We had a wonderful Labor Day weekend stay at Blue Barque. Luncinda greeted us warmly and told us everything we needed to know about the property. Hancock Beach access was the icing on the cake!

Family Reunion
Wonderful stay with grandparents and cousins, plenty of space and well equipped for family meals! Short drive to the best beach, and just down the road from the Grey Barn for fresh bread every morning. Thank you Lucinda and for being such great hosts!

This was our third (or fourth!) stay at Blue Barque and we enjoy it so much every time we go. The house is terrific and well equipped with anything you could imagine - very generous of the owners to keep it so well stocked. And the location and beach access couldn't be better. We love the quiet that Chilmark offers with access to MV's most spectacular beach - can't wait to plan our next trip!

We had a wonderful 5 days at Blue Barque! Next time will be longer! From the fresh flowers upon arrival, the lovely tour inside and outside, the key to Hancock Beach (truly amazing!), to the abundance of towels and anything else we needed - we could have not enjoyed our stay any more! Quintessential MVY
Incredible property, beautiful home, incredible appoitments at the crossroads of up island living. Will never get over being across the street from a private beach, 5 minutes from Menemsha, and 15 minutes from EVERYWHERE else. This is one of those homes that is a doorway into the classic age Vineyard lifestyle.

Lovely and peaceful
This was our second stay at Blue Barque. It’s an historic but thoroughly and tastefully updated 19th century farm house in magical Chilmark. Well equipped kitchen and plenty of indoor and outdoor space for our party of six adults and one child to gather. There are two living rooms so that a guest can find a quiet place to read while others chat or watch TV. The yard is private and was perfect for our pups. Hancock beach is beautiful and uncrowded. Lucinda, the property manager, is always responsive. Highly recommend.

perfect family retreat
we had an uncle, 2 grandparents, plus a family unit of 4 (kids 10 & 11) and the house had spots for everyone to hide if needed and to connect and have FUN! plenty of room for family meals, an EPIC outdoor shower (my favorite), the beds were super comfy, just about everything you need to enjoy the beach, PLUS a GORGEOUS BEACH!!!!! the location felt convenient to everything! lucinda was a DREAM! so responsive and so detailed in her responses which made everything so much easier - and the flowers she greeted us with were gorgeous!! we brought a badminton net and it worked perfectly in the yard - everyone got involved! we put together puzzles. we flew kites on the beach and they were awesome! we even made it for a sunrise on the beach - it felt like it was our own private beach! ohh and the art throughout the house was amazing! THANK YOU!!!!! highly recommend this home!

Wonderful stay for a special birthday in Chilmark
When celebrating a special birthday in Chilmark with family and friends, we enjoyed the Blue Barque house immensely. Centrally located up-island, between Gayhead and West Tisbury, the house is spacious and lovely. Decorated with flair, the Blue Barque house provided us with a comfortable, but very stylish gathering place with a grill for outdoor eating and watching the stars. Hancock Beach is breathtaking; we spent the day walking and sitting and talking and had the beach mostly to ourselves. The house is well-stocked, and Lucinda, who left me white roses for my birthday, is a welcoming and responsive host. I would highly recommend.

Lovely Chilmark Farmhouse
Our family of six adults thoroughly enjoyed our week at Blue Barque. It is an antique farmhouse with much charm and all the modern amenities as well as lovely outdoor living spaces. There is adequate interior space for guests to spread out and the wifi is excellent. The private Hancock beach is secluded and beautiful. Lucinda, the property manager, was professional and responsive. Highly recommend.

Chillin in chilmark
Turkeys greeted us as we arrived onto the property. A little bunny grazing in the grass. Lucinda met us upon arrival . She walked us through the house, our own little guided tour. She left us with keys to a private beach just over a mile off the beaten path. What a wonderful beach it was, sand as far as the eye could see and water that glistened in the sun. Her recommendations for dining was spot on. When we needed Lucinda’s help, she was readily available and sweet as can be. All in all a wonderful, relaxing and adventurous time at Martha’s Vineyard. Would definitely travel there again.

Absolutely perfect up island retreat!
Our family had the most incredible time in Chilmark at this gorgeous updated house with all of its original charm. The property manager Lucinda and owner Dan were so welcoming and wonderful and the house itself exceeded all expectations. It was so clean and stocked with lots of things like beach supplies and games to facilitate a great time. The access to Hancock Beach was amazing - what an ideal beach! Thanks for everything. Staying at the Blue Barque was quite a retreat. This historic home has been impressively restored. The interior details showcase the home's history with an artistic flair and thoughtfully placed "treasures" that make each corner intriguing. Bedrooms are comfortable and spacious. The yard is restful, private with stands of mature trees. The access to the private beach is the icing on the cake.

The Blue Barque is owned and loved by several generations of Dan Leventritt's family. Dan's Father planted most of the beautiful trees on the property The house itself is a grand Captain's House from the 1850's with an interesting history , chronicled in literature at the house.
