Storybook Alpine Log Cabin -Authentic Piece of Bavarian History on Lake Chatuge

Nestled in the heart of nature, on the serene shores of Lake Chatuge, lies a hidden gem that tells a story of adventure, history, and comfort - the Storybook Alpine Log Cabin. This isn’t just any ordinary cabin tucked away in the woods; it's a piece of history, a slice of adventure, and an invitation to create unforgettable memories.

The Storybook Alpine Log Cabin is no ordinary vacation rental. Its walls whisper tales from the 1940s, having originated as an authentic World War II log cabin in Finland. Imagine the hands that have touched its logs, the stories it could tell. In the 1980s, it was carefully disassembled, journeying across the world to find its new home on Lake Chatuge, where it now stands as a testament to craftsmanship and history.

Describing this cabin as unique would be an understatement. It’s like stepping into a blend of an Alpine Black Forest Clock and a Jackson Hole Log Cabin. The cabin’s exterior and interior exude a rustic charm that’s both inviting and awe-inspiring. Its two queen bedrooms and a cozy loft with two twin beds make it the perfect escape for families or a small group of friends. The two bathrooms and fully stocked kitchen are ready for your family meals, ensuring that comfort is never compromised while you’re whisked away into a world of rustic elegance.

Picture this: after a day of exploring and boating from your private covered dock, you return to the cabin as the sun begins its descent, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink. The evening calls for a gathering by the wood-burning fireplace, where laughter fills the air, and the warmth of the fire embraces you. As the night grows cooler, move the gathering outside to the firepit. There’s something magical about sitting under the stars, surrounded by the sounds of nature and the crackling of the fire, sharing stories and making memories.

Days at the Storybook Alpine Log Cabin begin with a moment of tranquility on the porch, sipping your morning coffee as the gentle breeze whispers through the trees. It’s a chance to disconnect, to breathe in the fresh air, and prepare for a day of adventure or relaxation, whichever calls to you. The surrounding area offers a plethora of activities, from boating and fishing to hiking and exploring, ensuring that every day is a new chapter in your storybook adventure.

The cabin doesn’t just offer a place to stay; it presents an immersive experience that blends the charm of the past with the comforts of the modern world. It’s a sanctuary where you can unwind, reconnect with nature, and make heartwarming memories with your loved ones. Whether you’re cuddling by the fireplace, sharing tales by the firepit, or enjoying a meal together in the fully stocked kitchen, every moment at the cabin becomes a cherished memory, a story to be told.

So why wait? The pages of your next adventure are ready to be filled at the Storybook Alpine Log Cabin on Lake Chatuge. It’s more than just a vacation rental; it’s your portal to a world where stories come to life, where laughter fills the air, and where the magic of nature surrounds you. Tranquil. Well appointed. Right on the lake. Private Dock. Just what we needed from a very busy day to day. Very Unique and comfortable. Fished at the Dock. Will schedule again.

Perfect Location..but

You could not find a lovelier spot….on the water with the peace of the lake and mountain views in a quiet neighborhood of beautiful homes. The cabin could use a bit of refurbishment, though. The loft area is large and actually has the roomier of the two bathrooms, but the stairs to get there are more like a ladder, awkwardly positioned on the main floor between the entrances to the two bedrooms and in front of the bathroom door. If you get up in the night, that can be a problem unless you leave lights on in the living room to avoid bumping into it. The cabin was nicely equipped with dishes, utensils, coffee & filters, paper towels and bathroom tissue…. pretty much everything you would need except the food. It has a great boat dock that you can swim from, although we did not use it on this trip. Overall, it was OK, but I would chose a newer, less rustic place for our next visit.

Weekend away

Quaint little cabin. Built for folks on the smaller side, perfect for anyone for a couple of days. Not handicap friendly. Host was awesome and very responsive. View and lakeside sitting was great. Would stay again.

Awesome Location / View

Unmatched view on Lake Chatuge. Quaint cabin next to a beautiful home. Deep water dock so no issues with boat rentals. Would definitely rent here again. Heck, I’d be interested in buying the place if it was ever available.

Log cabin

We really enjoyed our stay here. It’s a great spot on the lake just inside a quiet little cove, great for swimming with beautiful views. The cabin was very clean when we arrived, including the deck and dock, they were in great shape. The kitchen is dated but everything worked as it should and it was well stocked. The living space was fine, we never really hung out in the family room, instead sitting on the deck, which is also where we ate most of our meals. The loft was great for the kids. There’s no ac up there but after positioning the fans we were able to get air circulating and cool it down so it was comfortable to sleep. I rigged a couple towels and blankets over the windows so the sun wouldn’t be so bright in the am bc there are no curtains on the windows. No ac or curtains in the loft were my biggest gripe but we were able to work it out. There’s also no washer/dryer, which I missed when booking, We had a really nice stay in this little cabin. It was very comfortable with plenty of space.

Cozy cabin, great location

We enjoyed our stay in this cozy cabin, just right for the 4 of us, but can accommodate 6. We liked the set up. It’s not huge, but just right! The deep water dock and swimming area are great. We loved the fire pit, although we did not get a chance to use it. We enjoyed sitting on the deck at night playing cards and games. The beds were very comfortable. The living area also was cozy and comfortable. Our hostess was very helpful and quick to respond to our questions, and checking in and out was a breeze. Also very convenient to town for restaurants and buying groceries and supplies. We hope to visit again soon and would book this cute cabin again!

Lovely location and cute cabin

This is a lovely location and a very cute cabin. Pros are the location and the cabin decor. Also, the dock is lovely and a fun place for swimming and fishing. We were bummed that the upstairs bedroom with twin beds does not have window shades - so our teenager who was sleeping up there could not really sleep in. Also, the kitchen is fully functional but it is quite old. The hot water went out while we were staying there, but the property manager was responsive by phone/text and able to help us get it going again. The wifi also went out while we were staying there. The property manager was not able to help us get that restarted because it was Memorial Day Weekend.

Relaxing weekend on the lake

We had a very relaxing time at the cabin. The majority of our time was spent down by the water. The fire pit area is super nice and the dock is perfect for fishing and swimming. The cabin was very clean with comfortable beds and a decently stocked kitchen for cooking. The main living area is small but very cute and cozy. We loved the huge windows and being able to open them up to the view of the lake. The host was great and very quick to respond. Thanks again for a relaxing weekend away!

Great Location on the Lake

We really enjoyed our stay. Only negative was the cleaning people arrived as we were trying to move in at the 4pm time & we had to wait around an hour to begin using the property. No biggie but a little frustrating.

Cozy cottage in beautiful surroundings!

We had a marvelous time staying at this wonderful home! Large windows looked out on beautiful views of the lake, including some gorgeous sunsets, and let in plenty of light. We didn’t get a chance to use the new fire pit (too dry outside this time of year), but it’s right at the edge of the lake and will surely be a delight in the right season. Our kids swam off the dock, but also loved the free public beach (for wading/playing in shallow water) about five minutes’ drive from the house.

Amazing view of lake and mountains.

Such a cute cabin with amazing views. The host was very prompt on any kind of questions I had. Only a six minute drive to everything as we felt like we were tucked back in a cove on the lake away from civilization. Peaceful, quiet with amazing views as we really enjoyed our stay. I highly recommend this property!!!!
