It was a very nice, clean and updated apartment!
We had a great time at this property exploring Jamestown Island because it wasn’t as busy as Newport, RI can get in the summer. Thanks to a great host Paul!

Great property & great experience
This was the most organized rental that I have ever experienced. The owner has literally thought of everything, & left a few notes, maps, brochures, etc. to make us renters feel like locals. Great property, well-furnished, all details attended to. I wish that every VRBO was this well done.

Central Island Location, Easy Access to All Area Sights
This is a fantastic rental. The owner is so thoughtful and organized with notes, maps, etc. The condo is great if you have children--they have their own bedroom and the layout affords privacy for the grown-ups. It is well-appointed and furnished. We used it as a base for a short stay to hit Naragansett, Newport, & Block Island and rode our bikes everywhere. I highly recommend it!

4th of July Vacation
The communication with Paul was excellent. The property was as described. The beds were comfortable and we slept great each night. We didn't cook there, but the kitchen seemed well stocked. It was perfect for the 3 of us...might be a tight squeeze for 4 adults. Easy 10-15 minute walk to the pier. There is a small breakfast place only a few minute walk and an ice cream parlor a few doors down. Overall is was the perfect home base for our vacation. We did spend the majority of our time in Newport and Middletown but It was so nice to return to the slower pace of beautiful Jamestown each night and our comfy beds.

Nice place in convenient location
This is a great location - easy walk to the village through charming neighborhood, nice coffee shop at corner, easy walk to a market and straight shot down the road to the beach. The interior of the house was nicer than the photos. Owner is very communicative and no issues with check-in, etc. One caveat - if you are a light sleeper there is late night noise from the downstairs neighbor (whom we met and is very nice) coming in late, and one early morning from the commercial trucks leaving from next door business. No one in our party noticed it but me though so likely not an issue for most people.

Clean, quaint, hospitable.
My family of 5 stayed at Paul's wonderful apartment. Paul (the owner) was very responsible and helpful. He provided all the necessary information to enjoy our stay, and was very kind. The apartment was clean when we arrived. Typically the tenants clean upon departure so there is no cleaning fee - unless you request cleaning service. The location was perfect - walking distance to the waterfront and downtown. This is a great location if you are looking to visit the area - easy drive to Newport. One important note - the apartment is on the second floor and there are tenants on the first floor. There are quiet hours from 10pm-7am, so be mindful of this if you have young children. I would definitely stay here again.

Nice place!
While it's not actually on the water, the house is quick a walk down to the Bay. Along the way you will pass a few blocks of restaurants, coffee shops and bars in the heart of Jamestown. The owner was very easy to communicate with and the place was clean and well set up for an extended stay. Thank you!

Great home base for Rhode Island beach vacation
Paul's place is a great homebase for a group of 4 or fewer who want to explore the beaches from Naragansett to Newport. Jamestown is a treasure of a community with a very laid back vibe and it's a quick and easy drive (or ferry ride) to Newport where there are many wonderful beaches and attractions, as well as back to the mainland where Naragansett beaches await. The condo is steps away from a fantastic playground - great for kids up to 12 and beyond, as well as a sweet and yummy bakery and small town library. The grocery store is 2 blocks away and the center of town is also walkable/bikeable. It's about 1 mile easy walk/bike to a small beach called Mackeral Cove which is great for looking for hermit crabs or sitting by/swimming in calm water, and just a few miles from Beavertown State Park where you can walk the rocky trails along the water's edge. Paul was very communicative and responded to all inquiries before and during our stay.

Jamestown is an easy location to communicate back to Newport where we were exhibiting at the recent boat show. The owner Paul had touch based shortly after I made the reservations and was very helpful of giving information needed for us to get around and purchase grociers and some planning some evening restaurants. The apartment was great, clean and very quiet. Beds were very comfortable. I would rat a 5/5 for our stay.

Comfortable apartment in good location
The apartment was attractive and neat, with everything we needed. We could have used another lamp in the bedroom for reading at night, but other than that, it was perfect. Great location for walking into town and getting to beach at Mackeral Cove. The owner’s map on the refrigerator led us to spots we were glad we hadn’t missed. Jamestown is a lot of fun. Very relaxed.

Well maintained, clean and close to all. Paul was great and responsive. Definitely recommended!
This was a well maintained, really clean little flat on the top floor of a two family house. Paul was a great host and had everything laid out for us. He was also very responsive and prompt to any questions we had. He even texted us pictures of a deer family that passed by while we were out. The house is close to all and provides a permit to a lovely permit only beach close by. Strongly recommended!

Great location
We loved our stay in Jamestown. The house was perfect for us, and the location was fantastic; walking distance to the market and downtown area with Cumberland Farms one block down to pick up a few things if you don't want to walk to the market further down the road. The house is neat and comfortable. Even with being on a main road, you don't hear any outside noise or traffic. The owner was very helpful and a pleasure to deal with, and we thank him for opening up his home to us. Jamestown is a great little town. We were able to catch the fireworks on July 2 which had that small-town feel with kids running about wearing red, white and blue and light up batons. I was sorry I missed the local parade on the 4th! Beavertail State Park is a great place to visit and hang out. We didn't have much time to visit much of Newport since we had wedding events to attend, but were able to do the Cliff Walk one morning which was challenging but fun. With not being familiar with the area and it being a holiday weekend, we took advantage of Uber to and from Newport and found the drivers to be both friendly and informative. We plan to come back to Rhode Island (and Jamestown) again when we have more time.

Super duper!
This is a such a nice home, well furnished and great location. The owner was exceptional, great to work with. He takes great detail to make sure things are nice. Bedrooms are spacious. Great front porch sitting area, we enjoyed that a lot in the mornings especially. Very nice convenience store within walking distance for food/snacks. Easy walk to restaurants and ocean. We would go back! It was a comfy & fun stay!

Great location, quaint!
My 2 teenagers and I enjoyed staying here. This is a second floor apartment of a house. It has a great location near Jamestown main drag with restaraunts and Harbor. It is also a 10-20 minute drive to Newport, although main summer holidays could take longer getting over the Pell Bridge (toll $4 each way). There is ample room for 3-4 people. Beds are comfy, a renovated bathroom and fully stocked kitchen, and is appointed with nice IKEA furnishings and New England-style deckr. There are a washing machine and dryer in a shared laundry room outside adjacent to the downstairs unit. Street noise was minimal and the neighbors are quiet. There are window AC units in the bedrooms if it gets humid. What's missing is WiFi, and the surprise fees and end of stay self cleaning / linen laundry requirement turned out to be a hassle. Instead of enjoying a final morning breakfast, I'm writing this review while waiting for the towels and sheets to dry to avoid a hefty cleaning service fee. Be sure to allow plenty of time to get to your flight if you stay here. All in all, a great stay.

Perfect Place in Jamestown!
This second story apartment is the perfect place for a Jamestown stay. It's location is very central - right by the library and Jamestown Art Center. A gas station with a great convenience store, Island Scoop and the best wood-fired pizza on the island (Village Hearth) are all just a block away, and the East Ferry Village is an easy walk (less than half a mile) or bike ride away. The central location cannot be beat. The apartment itself is very well furnished. There are plenty of dishes, pans, towels, etc. If you need it, it's here! The kitchen has beautiful cabinets, granite counters and the appliances all look like they're brand new and are far nicer than what I have at home. The decor is very classic/modern with a Jamestown nautical theme. We stayed in August during a New England heat wave and the window AC units and ceiling fans (one in each bedroom and living room) kept us cool and the humidity at bay. The laundry room is a huge benefit, and again, the washer and dryer are large and look brand new. PJ, the owner, is the best I've ever worked with! He is very responsive and extremely helpful. We are so happy that we stayed here, and can't wait to come back sometime!

About the host

Hosted by Paul Sylvia

Host profile image
Paul was born and raised, in his early childhood, in Jamestown. He later moved and has continued to return to visit family and friends. The home has been in the family for over 100+ years being handed down generation after generation. It was his goal a few years ago to remodel the 2nd floor unit and continue the tradition of returning to Jamestown each summer with his family. He just recently began to offer it available to friends and other guest to experience beautiful Conanicut Island and the town of Jamestown.

Paul and Kimberly enjoy returning each year to the quiet historic town to visit the many fine restaurants, vineyards, breweries, bakeries, and other shops in the area. They also enjoy hiking trails, kayaking, fishing, sailing, golf and relaxing at the local beaches. In addition to the many things to do close by, they sometimes take road trips to nearby Boston and New York City. The owners are confident you will enjoy the accommodations and the beautiful town of Jamestown.

Please feel free to contact Paul regarding any questions you may have.

Why they chose this property

This rental property is located in one of the best locations close to the town center and a block away to a beautiful playground. Also very close less than a 1/2 mile you will find the town beach, shopping, Jamestown Ferry, and all of the restaurants in the village. A Cumberland Farms convenience store is located less than 400 feet away if you need to pick up some grocery items during your stay. The unit is within 3 miles to two of the most beautiful State Parks you will find in the state of Rhode Island and possibly in New England.

What makes this property unique

Our central location in New England to New York City, Boston and Cape Cod is a huge plus. All three locations make a drivable day trip to pick up a baseball game, visit some of the 13 wine vineyards in the tri-state area, visit breweries such as Sam Adams, Harpoon, Whalers, and many others close by. We are also close to Titleist Ball Plant if you are a golfer and would like to take a tour contact Paul for all the details.
