Stay in Jackson

We enjoyed our stay. The bed in the Master bedroom left a lot to be desired, it was very hard and noisy. This is an old house and has a lot of old house issues, which is to be expected. Other than that though it was an easy check in and check out, and we felt safe in the neighborhood. Amy was great and responded quickly to my questions. Much, much better than staying in any hotel.

Why they chose this property

Some history on the house:

The previous owners spanned from WWII to 1990. In the South, we like to pass down oral history, and this is a case of just that. :)

Built in 1920, this 103-year old single family home was once temporarily converted into apartments, with a shared kitchen and receiving room, during WWII and then reconverted back into a single family home when the housing crisis was over. The house next door, on the corner of the street, was once the mayoral home for the City of Jackson.

Since, a small half-bath has been added between a guest bedroom and the TV room..

A spacious laundry room has been enclosed adjacent to a bedroom by taking in half of the back porch off the kitchen. The laundry room had previously been in the utility maintenance closet on the current screened in back porch.

The Jack and Jill bathroom has been remodeled and enclosed. We do not have a history of this bathroom. There was once a door to the backyard where there is now a stained glass window in the bathroom.

The Master bathroom contains the original bathtub to the house.

The TV room also once had a permanent staircase leading to the attic, which was removed around 2009. Now, the only staircase leading to the attic is in the kitchen behind a locked door accessible only to the owners (Sorry, can't go up there. It is unfinished!)

*The plumbing in the house was updated in 2016, and the electrical was updated in 2011.

What makes this property unique

The house is old and not perfect, and the strange economic effects of the moment in time have slowed renovation plans. We are, however, excited to say that the floor of the master bathroom has recently been replaced and remodeled (current photos are accurate) and have had both of our clawfoot tubs recently resurfaced. PLEASE NOTE: Our clawfoot tubs can be difficult to get in and out of for those who have mobility challenges. Please keep this in mind when booking.

We thoroughly clean and sanitize EVERYTHING in the house. The Jackson water is iron rich and discolored (drinking water is supplied in the kitchen), which in turn has stained the old white checkerboard linoleum in the kitchen. Our house is very comfortable, but it does have its quirks and is not a totally sterile looking environment. It IS clean, even though some surfaces look a little dingy. Since we have started spacing out reservations to give more time to thoroughly clean and sanitize, the house is closed up with antique furniture, resulting in an "old house" smell when you first walk in the door, but it quickly dissipates once the door has been opened the first time.
