About this property

Stunning Cottage in Historic Village - Newport News, Virginia

Conveniently located in Newport News, VA between Colonial Williamsburg and Virginia Beach, and on your way to the stunning Outer Banks of North Carolina, the Hilton Village neighborhood was built between 1918 and 1921 in response to the need for housing during World War I for employees of Newport News Shipbuilding. It is recognized as the United States' first Federal war-housing project.

The Camellia Cottage was built in 1919 and is 1500 square feet. Naturally, it will have a few quirks due to generations of family enjoyment. It is a beautiful property decorated as "modern-vintage", and we hope that you embrace its character and charm during your visit.

In addition to short-term visits, we welcome mid- term stays! For traveling nurses, doctors, professionals, and your families, the cottage is minutes away from Riverside Regional Medical Center, Sentara Hospital, and Mary Immaculate Hospital. The cottage is also close to Ft. Eustis Army Base, Langley Airforce Base, and the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station. We are also in a very quiet neighborhood with a dedicated workspace. Inquire about special pricing for 7+ or 28+ day stays.

We hope you enjoy the Camellia Cottage appropriately named in honor of my late father who was a botany professor at Christopher Newport University for 35 years.

The house has a large primary bedroom upstairs equipped with a queen and twin bed. The second bedroom upstairs has a queen bed. The full bathroom with a tub is also upstairs.

The eat-in kitchen is equipped with coffee/ tea supplies, spices, and everything you will need for a home-cooked meal. Additionally, there is a large dining room that is able to seat six guests for an elegant dinner together.

Also, downstairs is a lovely living room and sunroom. You can enjoy watching children playing and neighbors walking their dogs. There is a fireplace, so you can relax at night with heating and color-producing faux fire logs.

The third bedroom, which doubles as a family room, is downstairs and has a very comfortable sleeper sofa. This room includes a designated workspace and also exits to the outdoor patio for relaxing around the firepit, grilling, or enjoying what nature has to offer. We are still working on landscaping the backyard, so we request you look beyond any areas that have been seeded but have not yet begun growing grass.

The home, quaint neighborhood, and all that Hampton Roads has to offer will certainly have you coming back for more!

P.S. We welcome guests from all cultures and alternative lifestyles.

Wow property in Hilton Village

100-plus-year-old houses often have character but just as often lack some things that we've come to expect today. This property is not one of those. Character - yes! But also roominess and the amenities that we want today - a nice kitchen and a wonderful bathroom. We've stayed at other properties in Hilton Village and they lacked those things. This was THE CLEANEST rental property we have EVER stayed in!!! Kudos to the owners who were wonderful to deal with, even when we were (sadly) a little trying. We'll be back!

Great location and charm

Was in town to watch our son at a swim meet. Great location and accommodations were perfect for our stay. Even got to enjoy 8 inches of snow. Hope to be back again next year.

Beautiful Cottage!

This cottage is wonderful! I told my husband "I could live here!" It's decorated so pretty and it's in the perfect location. A very short walk to the village, or in the opposite direction to a fishing pier, playground and beach. I would definitely stay here again!
