About this property

Experience the Island Paradise of Kauai's North Shore from Above the Treetops

This spacious, newly renovated second floor unit provides unique, breathtaking views of South Pacific against the backdrop of mesmerizing, romantic sunsets behind Bali' Hai' from your front porch.

The rear balcony offers equally spectacular views of Hanalei Bay, with waterfalls gently cascading into the green lush rainforest of the world famous Na Pali Coast. Because you are above the tall tree tops, you get the sense that you are in your very own Tree House! It is the perfect place for a romantic Honeymoon, family vacation, or just a special get-away. Literally, across the street, is the perfect location to catch the seasonal whale migration and the big surf of Kauai's famed North Shore. You can take one of three paths to three different Beaches, including Hideaways Beach, Secret Beach, or the beach at Hanalei Bay at the base of The St. Regis Hotel. All offer safe snorkeling areas where you can enjoy colorful marine life with complimentary snorkel gear provided with the studio apartment. Beach chairs and beach towels are also provided to our guests. There is free off street parking steps from the front door. There is also free Wi-Fi and landline long distance telephone service to the US Mainland and Canada. There is a cable HDTV, DVD player, and CD player.

This unit has recently been completely renovated with the assistance of a professional decorator and designer to give it that genuine old Hawaiian look that is clean and inviting. The 20' ceilings give a sense of spacious openness typical of traditional Polynesian homes. My most recent addition is a brand new 14" Plush Pillow Top Queen Mattress, with 4" of Pillow Top for a well-deserved good night's sleep after a day of island activities. I have also added a new powerful 15,000 BTU window A/C unit for those rare warm days.

The studio has a kitchenette with a Wet Bar and a full-size refrigerator/freezer, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, a 12-cup coffee pot, an Air Fryer, Crock Pot, blender, toaster, and place settings for four guests. However, please note that there is NO OVEN or STOVE TOP. The unit is designed primarily for heating up leftovers and light snacks. If you run a Google Search of this address (5301 Ka Haku Road, Princeville), it will display Side 1 only (which has a Full Kitchen). That is VRBO Property # 253851. Google will not display THIS Side 2 of the duplex. So, please do NOT rely upon a Google Search for this unit since Google cannot distinguish between Side 1 and Side 2. I mention this to avoid any confusion.

For the convenience of guest staying several days, I recently installed a small combo washer/dryer unit in the bathroom closet. It is designed for light loads only, and is quiet and clean. Because it is NOT vented, please allow anywhere between 2 to 3 hours drying time. You can set it for Wash Cycle AND Dry Cycle at one time, and simply leave for the day as it will automatically switch from "Wash" to "Dry" on its own. An Instructional Sheet is taped to the top of the unit itself.

The bathroom has also been completely modernized with new granite tile, cabinetry, granite counter tops, and a vessel sink. A hair dryer, iron, and ironing board is also provided.

This unit sleeps up to four guests with a queen bed (with the new pillow top mattress) and a queen Futon couch. The unit has a window AC unit as well as two new remote control ceiling fans for those rare warm days.

Do you need more room? Please see my HomeAway Property #253851 for Side 1 of this duplex which can sleep an additional six guests. Side 1 is a larger unit with a loft. It has a FULL kitchen has been recently remodeled with all new modern major appliances, cabinets, granite counter tops, deep well sink with a garbage disposal, and other convenient amenities. The kitchen is fully equipped to prepare meals. There is a new stackable washer/dryer behind closed doors.

That unit (Side 1) sleeps up to six guests with a king bed, a queen sleeper sofa, and two twin beds in the loft area which is easily accessible with a newly designed staircase. The unit has window AC unit as well as two new remote control ceiling fans for those rare warm days. Side 1 rents for $ 235.00 per night, plus applicable tax of 13.42% and a Maid Service Cleaning fee of $175.00.

You can rent just one side or both, depending on the number of guest in your party.

Gentle, cool trade winds off the South Pacific, complimented with your private views of the Mountains, Bali’ Hai’, and Hanalei Bay will leave you with lasting memories of The Garden Isle. Come and allow yourself to be pampered in what is truly Paradise.

As a seasoned traveler myself, the condo has been specially appointed with every amenity and convenience to make your vacation truly stress free. No unnecessary trips to the store to buy things for your stay. All is provided, just bring your sunscreen and Mai Tai mix.

Of the dozens of countries and hundreds of towns and villages I have traveled to in the world, none compares to the sheer natural beauty of the North Shore of Kauai. Come to relax…and be pampered…you deserve it!

Beautiful!!
The pictures in the listing don’t do this place justice. We loved sitting on the back porch in the evenings with the birds chirping and the sound of the water. Right out front is the ocean. We were such an easy walk to Hideaways Beach and loved going to 1 Hanalei Resort for coffee with an amazing view. Also super easy walk to the golf course where we visited a weekly market and saw live music. Caught the shuttle to Ha’Ena Park right there as well. Loved the snorkel gear available; we took this down to Puu Poa Beach and saw amazing fish in the reefs!

Excellent experience
The stay was incredible. We arrived late at night so we didn't see much on the way in. Our first morning we woke up to a beautiful sunny day in princeville, walking to coffee and down to the beach before exploring the island more. The location was very convenient as we spent a significant amount of time in Hanalei and exploring the north shore. Beautiful area and very clean and convenient room. Jim was responsive and helpful to all our inquiries and requests. The room seemed bigger in person than in photos. Would definitely recommend this place in the future.

Nice property close to the hideaway beach. It took a minute for us to find but once you figure out where and how to operate the lockbox it was fine. The host was kind about check out time since our taxi couldn’t come for a hour. Overall, a nice stay.

Slice of Paradise in Princeville
We loved the property. The views from the front and the rear balcony were breathtaking!. I miss it already!! It was in excellent proximity to everything you want to see in the northern area of Kauai. Communication was great with Jim, the owner. As described in the listing, it did not have a stove or oven but we knew that ahead of time. We were able to eat breakfast there, packed some lunches for our hiking and beach days and ate our dinners out at great restaurants. We would definitely stay here again if we are lucky enough to return to beautiful Kauai!

Beautiful efficiency with gorgeous views
We stayed 3 nights in this Princeville condo in April; it was clean, very quiet, comfortable bed, kitchenette with all we needed, washer/dryer very handy. Excellent directions in email made accessing the keys and moving in a breeze! Great location within 10 minutes of both Hanalei and Kilauea restaurants and shops, and close to shuttle to Napali coast. Highly recommend!

Nice place, clean and relaxing
The property was very nice. It was just me and I loved sitting on the lanai each morning watching the sun rise. You are right across from the lookout to watch the sunset. The bed was comfy. Only downside is road noise but it knew that going into it. Great place to stay!

Great location for exploring the northern part of Kauai with amazing beaches!!!…nicely done unit with good size refrigerator washer dryer which we did not use and ac which we did not usemuch at all…just open the windows and saves energy…Jim is very responsive…covenient stores for daily needs nearby but expensive….would recommend stopping at Walmart (Lihue)for groceries/basic needs prior to coming if you plan in staying for 3-5 days …a week or more …friendly people around and nice walking paths nearby…Futon was comfortable…my son likes it…just need to add two more pillows would just be perfect and paint the rusty looking sliding door (bottom part) at the bathroom will do the job…highly recommend your place Jim…Mahalo!

Nice Place to Stay
Partner and I just finished up a stay here and the space of the property was perfect for us (we spent most days out and only really used the unit to have breakfast/sleep). The view from the lanai was amazing and being so close to beaches was awesome. Only two pain points: There was never any parking when we got back to the unit, and there were A LOT of rules. Unit 1 has dedicated parking, Unit 2 (ours) has a ‘permit’ to park in permit spots. We didn’t realize that if there was no ‘permit’ spots you were pretty much screwed. We got back late most nights and there were some really sus people parked in the “permit” spaces/making little camps around their cars so we had to find random places to park and worried about our rental constantly. Partner woke up early each day to move our rental into a permit spot before we headed out for the day. The cleaning rules were a lot for being charged a cleaning fee. When we got to the rental there were some dirty things (hair stuck to the closet mirror in the bathroom, cups weren’t clean, etc.) and we were surprised to be responsible for cleaning the toilets for the cleaning people, washing the towels, ensuring no sand, etc. before leaving. Never been so stressed at checkout to make sure all the rules were followed... we actually didn’t use some of the amenities so we didn’t have to spend extra time cleaning. Overall great place, just leave time to clean and be comfy with inconsistent/spotty parking.

Juxtaposition conundrum
The place was as described, very clean and had sufficient indoor amenities. Communication with the owner was difficult as he was in Baltimore MD (7 hours difference). There was a person identified as the local property manager who was COMPLETELY non responsive. The parking arrangements were not clear - unknown to us when we arrived at 7:30 pm there are 2 Apartment at the same address. The other apartment had a marked parking spot, but our apartment had to park in a general parking spot. Not knowing this We parked in the spot dedicated to the address. The people staying in the other apartment knocked on our door and asked us to move. I called & texted the “on site” contact person to get guidance (she never got back with me) . We figured it ourselves. The beach chairs were old, rusted and broken. While the furnishings were nice, it was apparent that the bathroom was very old - extensive rust on the shower curtain rod & sliding door runners. The glass bowl sink was corroded at the bottom. We only used it to brush our teeth and shaving. On the 3rd day we went to the beach, returned to find the glass bowl sink had shattered sending glass shards everywhere. We promptly checked out the next day.

We enjoyed our stay very much. We understood that it was a studio, but it had mostly everything we needed. Our only real complaint was the policy of having to wash the towels before we left. This is impossible since the wash/dry cycle is so terribly long. We had to go to a laundromat 30 minutes away in order to comply with this rule. We've rented vrbo homes many times & have never had to wash our towels before check out. We would have appreciated at least a small cooler for the beach and an extra set of beach towels, but the nice, new set of snorkel equipment was great! All in all, it was a good place!

Condo not as described. Much worse condition that what we expected including cleanliness. Nothing to cook on in kitchen. If you google the address they give you, the description comes up differant than the actual condo. You will be very disappointed with this place.

We had detailed instructions for retrieving keys, however difficulties with opening the lock box. Great view, especially sunset from across the street. We were disappointed with the “kitchen “. Almost total lack of counter/prep space. There are 3 drawers, one has silverware, the other two have cleaning supplies and a dish drying rack. NO dishwasher. The coffee pots sit on a shelf and have to be plugged in on the counter top. There is no cabinet, only a shelf with plates, glasses (plastic), coffee pots and a toaster. There is an air fryer, but according to the instructions, required silicon inserts are missing. There are two plastic chairs without any available cushions and a small side table on the lanai. Not suitable for eating a meal. Best room is the bathroom, nice cabinet and more counter space than in the kitchen. Nice shower. The pictures still show the old sofa and chair as well as the new one that does not include a chair of any kind. We found them to somewhat uncomfortable.

Same as another reviewer - I was comparing multiple units with a kitchen/kitchenette, and assumed there would at least be a hot plate. There is a rice cooker but it wasn't working. Because there are very few restaurants in the area this makes it better for shorter stays. I think a single hot plate would make a big difference. I appreciated the snorkeling equipment on the balcony, although make sure to check the masks and fins before heading out - there were a few broken fins and masks. Other than that this was a great place to stay and we enjoyed our time!

We didn’t realize until arriving that this property didn’t have cooking facilities. Also, the beach/snorkeling equipment that was provided was in pretty bad shape. Fortunately, we had our own snorkeling equipment, but would have been hurting if we had planned on using what was promised.

Perfect North Shore base camp
We were blessed with a week here during unusually perfect weather for the season. Tunnels and Ha'ena were calm and sunny for a couple of days in a row, making for great snorkeling. Hanalei is 15 mins, Tunnels is 20-25 mins, and Kapaa is 30-35 mins. The unit was exactly as advertised: very clean and equipped with more than enough kitchen appliances to make basic meals. We used the mini-air-fryer to "hard boil" a bunch of eggs and cook up a pack of bacon for on-the-go breakfasts, along with the pre-stocked coffee (choice of two coffee makers). The mini-crockpot slow-cooked chicken dinner for us while we were out and about during the day. The blender was great for afternoon smoothies using frozen fruit and yogurt. Then the air fryer came through again for cooking steaks, egg rolls, and the like. This was great for us since we tend to eat most meals at home due to a fair number of food restrictions. The well-stocked bathroom has a nice rainfall showerhead, fluffy towels, shampoo, soap, etc. The snorkel gear and boogie boards were appreciated, as was the small combo-WD for the mid-week wardrobe refresh. The view out back is a stand of green bushes and trees, with the Kauai cliffs in the background, and a slice of the bay visible over the railing. From the mini-park out front (across the street) is a fantastic view of the bay, where sunset-watchers gather nightly. With mostly quiet neighbors and easy parking, this isn't a fancy place but it's comfy, clean, and priced just right.

Short stay only!
Studio sized, good bed and shower. A refrigerator, but no way to prepare a hot meal. Poor small microwave, minimum dishes and silverware, and two cheesy plastic! wine glasses. Uncomfortable sofa and no chairs beyond the table chairs. A tough place to stay beyond a day or two.

About the host

Hosted by Jim Nicholas

Host profile image
Originally from Philadelphia, followed by Law School in Chicago, I have lived in sunny Florida for the past 31 years, and have been blessed with the opportunity to travel the world many times over, and although I have experienced, first hand, the beauty and adventure of many foreign lands, nothing in my travels compares to the North Shore of Kauai. It is, by far, the most beautiful, exotic, and romantic place on earth...a place where the landscape seems almost unreal...a place where one can truly find a piece of Heaven, right here on earth.

Why they chose this property

Hale Moi is conveniently located directly across from Hideaways Beach and the whale watching area...a place to enjoy the spectacular sunsets behind Bali Hi'. This second floor duplex is fully equipped with all the amenities and conveniences of modern living, nestled between the ocean and mountains, with full vistas of both. Truly, the best of both worlds.

What makes this property unique

The unit was recently completely remodeled with all new bathroom tile, cabinets, vessel sink, a compact washer/dryer in the bathroom closet, a fully equipped Kitchenette with a full size Frig/Frezer, microwave, coffee pot, toaster, blender, and a Wet Bar with a garbage disposal. Brand new Pillow Top Queen Size mattress for a good nights sleep after a full day of exploring The Garden Island.
