The mighty Mountain Lair with its 10 bedrooms comfortably sleeping 20 is the perfect place to rally the troops on your next mountain retreat. Inside there is something for everyone with 10 TV's, a pool table and bar, free WIFI, DVD players , 2 fireplaces, and no less than 3 laundry centers! Visitors in spring, summer and fall will love taking the festivities outside to enjoy dining on the deck or relaxing under one of the gazebos with family and friends. This is the perfect place to plan a family reunion or weekend warrior getaway.

Family Ski Trip

There were 15 of us on this family ski trip and it was amazing!! The House was so convenient on the slope, plenty big enough for us all. Kitchen was big and fully equipped The hot tub was a welcome treat after the ski day with our aching bones! And we found out grandchild #8 is in its way!!.

Wonderful Home

We would recommend this home/lodge to any family company event or gathering. It is clean, beautifully decorated, comfortable furniture and beds, and the kitchen is stocked i with every appliance that you can think of. Last the outside decks and swing were very enjoyable in the evening.

Amazing house!!

My family stayed here January 2023, and it is the most perfect house for a big group! The ski in ski out is so convenient and located very close to the lift! The small amenities you usually don’t get at other places was great and the beds were the comfiest I’ve ever had staying away from home. A short drive from Davis if your group wants to go into town to Stumptown or get some burritos at Hellbender! I’ve been coming to Davis for 5-6 years now and this has been my favorite house!

The kitchen has everything you could possibly need (TWO of most things!) and we never ran short of plates, linens, or felt crowded. The only downside is the wi-fi is a little slow - might want to get a faster connection for streaming movies (it cut out several times). Overall, would absolutely stay here again.

Family ski trip

We enjoyed our stay very much at this property. It provides direct access to the slopes, it is spacious and accommodating to multiple families. The layout provides privacy as well as a great, very well equipped kitchen, a beautiful large dining room and living room. Unfortunately the representative of the management company was unfriendly and not accomodating. It left a sour taste in our mouth, but I would rent this place again at a heartbeat if I wouldn't have to deal with the same person again. I plan to address the issue directly with the owners.

Plenty of bedrooms for all and spacious enough that we weren't tripping over each other. Very clean and well taken care of. Plan on returning again in 2 years as next year has already been booked elsewhere. We enjoyed the waterfalls and a picnic at Blackwater Falls Park otherwise just stayed at the house the entire time. The only minor complaint would be they need retractable shades on overhead window over the dining table as the sun was in our eyes as we were eating dinner.

Outstanding Rental

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Our stay at the Best of Canaan "cabin" (it's so bug it's difficult to refer to it as a cabin) was nothing but great. Being told ahead of time that the cabin was well stocked did not prepare me for just how well stocked it was. If you need to cook it, bake it, slice it (they have a meat slicer) you have what you need. A chef wouldn't know what to do with all of the kitchen equipment.Moving on to location. It couldn't be in a more centralized location based on the local attractions. Minutes from Davis, Thomas, and Blackwater falls. Short drives to caverns, Seneca Rocks, and Dolly Sods Wilderness.The cabin was clean and well stocked with towels. The check in was hassel-less took literally 1 minute.I could go on all day but in short I highly recommend this cabin and will probably go back.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was our 7th trip to this home. We always have a wonderful time. The weather this year was rainy but Saturday was nice. It was nice that the ice maker was working this year. We grilled out but only one grill was usable and that was after a very good cleaning which took a long time. I can't believe that the renters leave the grills so bad. Last year both grills didn't work so I know the owner purchased a new grill but it was a mess and the other one was broke. The home was very clean and we do really enjoyed our stay. We will be returning next year.

We own a higher end vacation rental ourselves and appreciate the time, budget and attention it takes to keep up a property. There were many issues that need attention in this house; lots missing grout in the kitchen floor, broken dishwasher rack, poorly repaired drywall patches in bathroom, worn off finishes on wood towel bars and practically all wood surfaces, dining room table, etc. Positives; carpet in living room appeared new, as did the leather couches. It's awesome that the owners are willing to share this place and that it accommodates our whole family, but price to value is way off. We will be renting smaller places in proximity next year. Timberline resort is amazing and we've been many times- kudos to the new ownership!

The kitchen although counter space limited it had everything we needed to be able to eat meals in. Everything was very neat and clean except the windows. Without air conditioning, which we didn't realize when we reserved, needed opened and a few of the window openers were broke. The biggest thing I would suggest is for the home to have chairs on the bottom deck. It was a beautiful four days and we wanted to take advantage of the lower deck but there were no chairs and the grass was so tall that it made it hard to play yard games. Also the lower deck vase was packed with cigarette butts which should have been cleaned.

Another Donahoe Reunion Success

Reviewer Comments: My six siblings and I (along with our significant others) have rented a large house every year in many different parts of the country for the past 15 years or so. The “Mountain Lair” house was one of the better houses we have rented in the past. The bedroom layout aloud people to go to bed early or wake up late without being bothered by others staying up late in the family room or getting up early for a noisy breakfast. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, glasses, cooking equipment and 2 working gas grills. We all did plenty of hiking (all within reasonable distances) and several of our group got 5 day passes for indoor swimming at a local resort 10 minutes away at a very reasonable price. We got lucky with the weather (sunny and in the low 60s) for the second week of October. Fall foliage was beautiful as you can imagine. Lastly, the Best of Canaan Staff were very helpful, answering many questions that we had prior to our visit.
