We had our little dogs and were very comfortable. We loved the deck overlooking the ocean. We loved going to the wharf for takeout seafood. We enjoyed our week by the sea.
Beautiful view. Comfortable furniture. Convenient location for all our favorite things to do.

The location is great with killer views of Long Cove!
We had a great vacation. Love this location. The owner/agent (not sure) was extremely helpful and quick to respond. The house could use some updating. Overall, very good.

Beautiful ocean view
Dirty inside, kitchen and accessories lacking. Hard mattresses. The porch view was spectacular.
I often tell my kids how we have to turn the wheel and not stay on the same path as our waters are getting warmer, and waste is everywhere, but I hope that Spruceholm does not turn its wheel as this cottage is the way a Maine cottage should be and its location puts one in a mindfulness state just relaxing on the deck as all senses are triggered. The view changes constantly with fog, sun and moon, the smell of the ocean, while it may be warm just a few miles inland, the constant breeze is refreshing, and the view and sound of the big salt pond would never get old. Inside is charming, very comfortable and has everything one needs. We love the Pemaquid/Bristol area and eating lobsters on the deck is just another jewel in experience. My ask is that Sprucehold does not turn the wheel to change the cottage, but to keep it as is.
Our family of 4 had a wonderful week in this lovely, rustic cabin! We enjoyed stunning sunrises right from the deck; we watched lobstermen bring in the catch and spotted seals playing in the waves. Sheila was very helpful and responsive. She connected us with Maine Kayak for 3 great days of kayaking, and the info binder at the house was a useful guide to restaurants and activities in the area. Spruceholm was the perfect place to rest, recharge and enjoy time with family. We hope to return soon!
We shared the cottage with close friends from Seattle, Washington, and the last two nights with my brother and sister-in-law, and overall, it was a good experience. The view is incredible!! As the pictures show, the cottage is rustic, but very cute and cozy. The negatives that come to mind are the cooking utensils and thorough cleaning. We cooked in quite a bit, so I brought the utensils and dishes that I needed. Otherwise, this cottage and location are ideal. It really takes you away from the hustle and bustle.
I have been renting a cottage around the coast of Maine every August for about 10 years and never found one I'd care to return to - until now.
Location - check.
Comfortable rustic charm - check
Water view - check, check, check!
Watching the tide come in from the porch as it gradually covers the rocks below is endlessly fascinating and mesmerizing. And it's even better while you're eating lobster from Shaw's wharf two minutes down the road at New Harbor. (That's also where you catch the ferry out to Monhegan, which you can also see from the porch.) The cottage is comfortably furnished and the kitchen has all you need for basic meal prep. The cleaners might have tackled the dust and cob webs with a little more gusto, but hey, my own house has that too. If you're looking for a typical and relaxing Maine experience, I highly recommend Spruceholm. And while you're there, read the guest book entries that go back to 1947. Just charming.
The location of this property was excellent. Having the open porch right on the waterfront was a bonus. We enjoyed watching the sunrises each day, the lobstermen and fishermen coming and going, and the waves' sounds at night offered a good night's sleep.
The cabin is clearly a warm-season cabin. Many places throughout you can look through the wallboards and see to the outside. The cabin is in need of some cosmetic upgrades. The bathroom on the first floor has peeling wallpaper and typar wrap in the exterior. Some of the exterior walls were missing siding. The shower could use a good cleaning to remove the soap scum on the walls and floor. Some of the new pressure treated decking on the porch was not secured down and only fastened at one end or the other. Using the kitchen was like working in an antique store as all of the cooking dishes and utensils are clearly from days gone by. We were able to cook all of our meals just fine and make use of what was supplied. Being a rustic cabin, there are naturally many opening to the outside and we were visited by mice more than once during the week. There is no storage for dry goods in the kitchen, so our dry food was left out on the counter, and we had "gifts" left by our little friends in the morning.
If you are looking for a nice spot on the coast to use for sleeping, day-tripping, and taking in the views, this is a nice spot. For us, who use rentals to truly live in and spend most of our time in for the week, this was not one of our finest locations, and we have done many of these. We have paid less for nicer rentals and were slightly disappointed with this one. Some may find it perfectly adequate and enjoy the rustic nature of this cabin. It just wasn't the best for us.
The cabin was definitely rustic but oh the views and the sound of the ocean were so worth it! I would gladly stay in the Spruceholm Cottage again. We were able to cook but the kitchen probably needs some new supplies. (I.e. the cookie sheet has definitely seen better days and should be replaced.) However, we thoroughly enjoyed our time in the cottage and we would stay again.
We just returned from Spruceholm cottage and are still missing it! The ocean harbor view is outstanding. We had some colder days and lit a full fire in the beautiful stone hearth. This is truly a place that has been enjoyed through the generations. All supplies you could need were provided as we did a lot of our meals at the house. It’s an older cottage being redone in places but that just adds to the charm! We’ll definitely be back!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The view of the ocean was mesmerizing and beautiful. We have been taking week in Maine for the better part of 50 years and we are hoping to return next year.
wonderful view of ocean on covered deck, great host
Be prepared for a very camp style interior, but we enjoyed the relaxing feel it gives. spend many hours on the covered deck observing the beautiful ocean view.
My husband and I rented this house for a week in September and I cannot say enough about the view both from in the house and out on the deck. The inside is rustic but we could see where repairs were being made and it reminded me of a home my grandparents had many years ago. Sheila was fantastic to deal with. Loved the fireplace and the wood was supplied. Bringing our dog is a necessity for us. Also close to Shaw’s Warf where we purchased food for take out. Would definitely stay here again.
We spent every possible moment on the deck looking about over the ever changing seascape. Lovely! And just a few minutes walk to the Rachel Carson Salt Pond Preserve. The house itself is VERY rustic, so it’s good to be prepared for that.
The property was in a beautiful location..The cabin needed updated ..the deck had been redone but a few boarda not tacked down..great views. Nice size living room and fully stocked kitchen.as far as utensils and cooking geer..Clean but outdated..
A charming cottage with a great view. Has everything you need without going overboard. The sun rise from the back deck are spectacular. We enjoyed watching the seals playing in the water as well as seeing a eagle actually caching fish just a few feet in front of us. Very relaxing.
The view can’t get any better ! We enjoyed the covered deck overlooking the cove. The cottage was rustic, but with a nice kitchen, and plenty of seating in the living room for reading, catching up, or watching tv.
The view from the porch is incredible! We spent hours sitting on the porch listening to the waves and watching eagles and fishing boats. Very clean kitchen and cozy living room.
