river sounds

The sound of running water is so relaxing at this home. Shut the windows and doors and it closes out all outside noise. We spent time visiting family and did not leave the backyard and view of river often. Inside is everything you need for a long stay or short visit. Furnishings and appliances all quality in good working order. Two tvs a plus for a varied taste in viewing.. Only regret is path to river is not oldster friendly.

So many little extras!

The cottage was very clean and although it’s an odd layout, it had everything we needed for our nearly week long stay. Beds were super comfy. Julie also had every little extra we could think of and everything was in its place. Highly recommend for a stay in Oakland or Westfir.

Really fun vacation home close to nature

Nice place with the river view. Could walk to the river and spend lot of time there. Everything in the house (utensils and a fully functional kitchen, nice working tv with Netflix, YouTube) and a full service grocery in about 10 minutes drive. Close to hot springs and Waldo lake. Well organized vacation home. Real fun.

Cute and cozy cottage in a great location.

My family of five stayed at the cottage and loved it! The cottage was clean and well-appointed, with everything we needed. The location was excellent--a few minutes away from snow and hiking, a warm and comfy home base for our adventures.

Great stay along the river

We were a group of 4 ladies that were attending a mountain biking event. This cottage was perfect for our group. We didn't feel crowded and slept like babies each night. Can't wait to come back. Trails are awesome in the area and sitting and relaxing along the river after a long day on the bike was heaven!

Great cabin on the river

The cabin was as described and even more, very well equipped, very cozy, lots of maps and information. The "mud room" was very handy when coming in after fishing, and the a/c was very welcome in the heat wave. Nice to hear the river sounds from the bedroom. Great location for fishing on the North Fork - highly recommended!

Peaceful cottage by the river

We loved our stay at the cabin. We like to cook, and we found it well equipped. Everything we needed to make a good meal was there. We loved the backyard and at night, we saw so many stars! It was great hearing the river from inside the cottage and the location was near many hiking trails.

Lovely cottage oasis!

Our family enjoyed the cottage tremendously and would definitely like to stay here again. I stayed with my husband and two sons, ages 11 and 13. We enjoyed the beautiful YARD and river access tremendously. So much fun to just romp around during the day and spend our nights in the cozy cottage. Thank you to the kind owners for their willingness to rent such a wonderful retreat!!

Lovely Weekend on the River

We spent three nights in the lovely cottage. The AC was great for keeping it comfortable but to be honest we spent the nights on our cots down by the river and the days in the river. The space is great for a small family or a couple of good friends though the second toilet and the shower are very...ummm...public. We rode our mountain bikes for three days right from the cottage and loved it. Buy groceries in Oakridge before heading to Westfir, the Budweiser in the Westfir market had a best by date from July 2015. By the third night we didn't even hear the train. Thanks for great experience, we would definitely stay here again.

Cozy cottage with a river out the backdoor

This cottage had one of the best backyards for morning coffee by the river,an evening glass of wine, reading or a nap.Easy access to mountain bike trailheads was a bonus. I asked a lot of questions before booking, and Julie said "she would rather under promise and over deliver",and she did! Thanks, from two Michigan mountain bikers

Good Stay at the Westfir Cottage

I spent five nights at the cottage while on a fishing trip. The cottage was clean and very comfortable. While the cottage is close to the road, there was a lot of privacy in the backyard down by the river. A great place for an afternoon nap or to enjoy the river view. You can definitely hear the train, but I noticed it less after the first day. The At&t cellular signal was weak and intermittent. I would not count on using your phone for a mobile hotspot. The cottage accurately matched description and pictures provided and is centrally located to all the activities the area has to offer. My security deposit was returned promptly. Overall, I had a great stay and would not hesitate to stay here again.

Awesome location and accommodations where perfect for our group.

This place is ideal for anyone wanting a nice cozy place to stay in a beautiful setting. The house is well kept and has all the amenities of home. It's close enough to town to go grab groceries or a bite to eat. For us it was ideal as for our group of mountain bikers as it is at the bottom of one of the best trails in the area. Other that the occasional train goin by it was super quite and ypu mostly heard the river flowing and the wind blowing in the trees. I am hoping to come back again soon.

Check out our pictures to see our dedication to comfort.

The River Cottage holds a rich history as the first privately owned home in Westfir, constructed by Harry in the 1920s. As a saw filer for Westfir Lumber Company, Harry meticulously handpicked the best lumber to build most of the house himself. When modernizing with new windows, workers marveled at the precision of Harry's craftsmanship. Harry and Mildred weathered the Depression, raised two children in this small home. Their son James, the first family member to attend college, later returned to Westfir, eventually becoming the mill manager.

Our own cherished memories include watching bikers and motorcyclists pass by from the front porch. The cottage has been a beloved retreat for our family, and we hope it becomes one for yours too. Julie
