Fun Winter Getaway

We thoroughly enjoyed our snowy long weekend getaway during which we were supremely warm and comfortable relaxing inside the cottage with the ample room proportions and wood-burning fireplaces, and we also had fun being active outside in the adjacent nature reserve, where we went cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and tobogganing. Very much recommend!

My friends and I had the best quick weekend winter wonderland getaway. Upon arrival, the sound of the waves on Georgian bay was such a welcome sound. I was aware that the driveway was steep, but the owner provided sleds to move our things to unload. The driveway proved to be a bit of a toboggan run for a few of us, which made us feel like kids again (we are in the 40-50-60 group). The home was perfectly put together for us, everything we needed was there. The kitchen was fully equipped. We brought food and made breakfast and dinner every night. Our winter excursions were even better as there was knee deep snow for our hiking and frozen waterfall tours. My friends and I highly recommend Susan's getaway cottage on the bay. Thank You!

Golf trip

Perfect place to stay for our golf trip to Cobble Beach, just a 15 minute drive. Beautiful property, food and drinks on the deck or hanging out at the fire pit on the water. Our host was amazing, very easy check in and out process. They even packed up a few items that were left behind and sent them to us.

Family Vacation August 2024

We are a family of 6 adults, 5 children aged 1 to 12. There was something for everyone. The cottage was perfect, lots of bedrooms and open spaces for play or quiet time. The cottage was stocked with everything you could think of. What a pleasure to not have to pack dishes, towels and linens. Outside was beautiful, we loved the big yard to play games, the water was lovely with canoes, kayaks and paddleboards to use. The large garage was stocked with lots of outdoor games, campfire wood, an extra frig and the ping pong table was a hit. We also enjoyed long hikes on the trails across the road. So much thoughtful planning has gone into making the cottage and surrounding area a perfect vacation spot. Just pack your clothes and food and be prepared to make great memories!

Paradise

Susan was annexcellent host from booking to check out. The cottage is breathtaking and so much care is taken to equip it for a large group. All the amenities one would want and more. Great trail and nice fire pit. Very generous host leaves you with wood for fireplace inside and we were greeted with homemade cookies and a lovely note. Bbq is gas fed so no need to fuss with propane tanks. Massive basement with walkout and massive tv. Lots of blankets. Loft is gorgeous and all of the rooms have stunning views of nature. Hands down the nicest place I've stayed and the pricing is beyond reasonable. Thank you!!!

Gorgeous Greystone Retreat

We had a fantastic family holiday. This is our sixth-year vacationing in the Wiartron/Bruce Peninsula area but our first time at the retreat. We really enjoyed the privacy that the retreat had to offer. We were 4 adult couples, and each had our own room with one to spare. The waterfront though rocky(rocks a bit slippery so you will need water shoes) was tremendous. The A frame house had every amenity you could ask for. The air conditioning was a bonus the first few days as it was extremely hot and humid with no wind. After that, the breezy off of Big Bay was all we needed to keep cool. Another bonus was the 430 private acres across the road with 17km of trails which are owned and maintained by our hosts. There are rest stops etc.. along the way. They have put in a parking lot to allow the public to use the trails as well. You really don't have to go anywhere else. We will definitely be back. Miss it already.

Exceeded our expectations. So much to offer and do and enjoy

We spent a week at this fantastic property. We gathered with friends and family to enjoy some time together and it was perfect and better than described. I've rented many properties and am often skeptical that the descriptions are generous and the pictures are from just the right angle. The opposite was true here. The pictures and description can't do justice to the beauty of this location and all of the amenities that the hosts offer here. We spent a lot of time paddling in the clear waters of Georgian bay. We enjoyed the kayak and canoe on site and brought some of our own as well. The water was amazingly calm the week we were there but our swimming was restricted to quick dips due to the temperature. I think we had a small campfire at the fire pit right on the lakeshore every night. I can't imagine a nicer place to wind down from the day, and enjoy some treats over the fire. There was even fire wood available to us in the garage. Each morning we enjoyed our coffee on the expansive deck. Many mornings we made it out of bed for the very early (It was July ) but amazing sunrises. There was plenty of outdoor furniture to find the right place to sit or recline and enjoy a book or conversation. We enjoying cooking in the amazingly well equipped kitchen and dining either on the deck or at the huge dining table. The extra touch of having a Keurig and available coffee pods was appreciated when we just wanted a cup. The hosts did a great job communicating before and during our stay. They were quick and responsive when we had any questions or concerns. We often enjoyed the nature trails across the street. Due to the wet spring some of the trails had some muddy spots, but we were able to find plenty of dry areas to enjoy some forest peacefulness. Of course the area has a lot to offer as well. We enjoyed several nearby hikes to waterfalls, Bruce Caves, or further up the peninsula in the national park.

Unforgettable!

This cottage is incredible! Very spacious and comfortable, with breathtaking views of the waters of Georgian Bay. Our hosts were very helpful and responsive to questions, and they supplied plenty of good, dry firewood for us to use in the living room fireplace and the outdoor fire pit. The property is as advertised -- if anything, it looks better in person than it does in the photos. It was beautiful in the winter, and I'm sure it would also be stunning in the summer!

Host profile image
My husband and I live in our retirement home next door to the Retreat and enjoy the gorgeous waterfront daily.

We both enjoy a variety of hobbies (bird watching, hiking, cycling, gardening, woodworking, etc) and are kept busy maintaining our 430 acre wildlife/nature reserve across the road from the Retreat.

Each year we develop a 'winter project' as well starting all our annual flowers and vegetables from seed in our greenhouse.

Why they chose this property

When this property originally, and conveniently, came on the market in May 2000, we bought it for easier access to next door.

Then, after we'd invested substantially in upgrading the house interior and the lawns/gardens, we were inspired to offer it as a vacation rental property.

Susan built a website, uploaded it and we shared the property with our first guests from England the August long weekend of 2000. We have been renting it ever since.

We truly enjoy meeting the wide variety of guests who have rented from us over the decades ... and sharing our wildlife/nature reserve with them

What makes this property unique

The views (sun and moon rises over the Bay; everchanging skies and water)
The peace, quiet and tranquility of the area
The wildlife/nature reserve across the road that we proudly steward

Imagine everyone sitting quietly sitting around a campfire under a clear starry sky listening to the waves lapping on the shoreline ... there a very few comparable experiences of nature at its finest
