About the host
Hosted by Dan Haug

In 2024, Isfryn changed ownership and is now under the care and guardianship of an American couple, Sarah and Dan. Sarah is the author of more than fifty novels, all set in medieval Wales, and is conversational in the Welsh language. In order to know the country, culture, and history as well as she does, Sarah convinced Dan to spend as much time in Wales as possible! Dan’s photographs are featured throughout the house and provide a stunning complement to any exploration of North Wales.
Why they chose this property
Sarah and Dan met Isfryn for the first time during a 2022 trip when seeking a holiday let that could become their “home base” for future trips to Wales. In particular, they were looking for a Welsh-speaking community where Sarah could improve her command of the language.
It is their pleasure to renovate and restore the home not only for themselves and their own family, but for others, whether those looking for a break from daily routine or for the perfect central location to explore North Wales, see its beauty, and dive deeper into its intriguing history.

What makes this property unique
As someone who writes historical fiction novels set in medieval Wales, Sarah has a particular affinity for this location. The medieval town wall, begun in 1283, forms part of Isfryn's back garden, and the raised deck overlooks the wall and offers spectacular views of the castle and the Menai Strait. The house is built on land that once made up the queen's garden, first belonging to Queen Eleanor, wife of King Edward I. As one of the few holiday lets available within the walled town itself, Isfryn offers not only a comfortable and spacious home away from home, but a unique window into the past. We've been spending time in Caernarfon since 2012 and we believe that it may be the best location in the town.
