Enjoy the giant yard, firepit, hammock and yard games. Dog friendly and less than a 10 minute walk to the Nisqually River Basin, and a 5 minute drive to the entrance of Mt. Rainier. Enjoy the starry nights with plenty of space to spread out. Surrounded by world-class hiking near the peaceful village of Ashford, Washington. Enjoy!

The space
Two bedroom, two bath home with two large living rooms, a full kitchen, laundry space and deck on almost an acre of park- like grounds with hot tub and firepit.

Guest access
The whole home and property is yours to enjoy and explore. You will have self check-in with a custom door code that will be sent to you 7 days prior to arrival. Hosts are not on property but can be available if needed.

Other things to note
A video of the property is available on YouTube by searching for "Bears Den Cabin in Ashford". The cabin has a Level 2 EV charger exclusively for your use. It's also a 9 minute walk to a secluded, INCREDIBLE section of the Nisqually River Basin. (Laminated directions with pictures are in the house manual, to help you find your way) Our favorite things to do here are sit in the hot tub under the stars, take naps in the hammock, or sit and read by the wood stove. This house is perfectly located for exploring the National Park, or any of the hikes in the beautiful surrounding area. You can drive into the Park, or even drive to White Pass through Skate Creek Road (open summer only) and Packwood. Alder Lake is also nearby and a great place for taking the whole group for a day of swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking etc. (We provide two kids paddleboards with oars in the game shed - you will need your own lifejackets). Make sure to go to Rainier Base Camp for pizza. burgers, salads and cold drinks, and don't forget to stop by Copper Creek for their famous Blackberry pie. Paradise Village, just across the street from our community, has coffee, baked goods and amazing Ukrainian meals. So many choices after a day of hiking, swimming and exploring! We hope we get the opportunity to host you and that you will come to love Ashford as much as we do. Welcome!

Wonderful for family reunions

We had a great time. Suzanne was very responsive and acommodating to our needs. The house is very cozy and there is a lot of thought that went to our dog to be happy ( being able to safely play outside, dog treats, clear instructions of expectations about picking up after your dog and sheets to cover furniture) and kids to be happy, loved the train tracks and lincoln logs we spent hours playing like we hadn't played in years! We also enjoyed the hottub and the well stocked kitchen. Definitely will stay at the bears den in our next Mt. Rainier adventure.

Amazing getaway

The Bear's Den is an amazing place to stay. The Nisqually River is a short walk and is absolutely stunning. Our hosts, Troy and Suzanne were fantastic. When we arrived, the house was clean and had everything we could possibly need for our stay. Huge thank you to Troy and Suzanne for sharing this beautiful place with us!

Host profile image
I'm Troy and my wife Suzanne and I work in healthcare. I'm a physical therapist and Suzanne is a midwife who has delivered over 1,000 babies (and counting). We LOVE to travel and between the two of us we have been to over 30 countries (and counting). We began hosting in 2022 when we moved from our house in Seattle to the forest of Fox Island. We kept our house in Seattle with the expectation that our children would live there when they (hopefully) go to University at the UW. Since renting it out as a short term rental we found great satisfaction and enjoyment in it. Having traveled so much and preferring to stay at people's homes, apartments, castles and tents as opposed to hotels we have a deep understanding of how much joy and happiness a place and host can bring to people. We take great pride and joy in hosting people and hope to have the opportunity to make your stay with us special and memorable.

Why they chose this property

The Bear's Den has been in Suzanne's family since the 1960's. Her father built it from what was a pole barn many years ago. You may notice timbers with drywall around it in some of the walls...these are the bones of the pole barn. Since the house was passed to us it has been our vacation house with many memories including Christmases, Thanksgivings Summer vacations as well as our daughter taking her first steps just outside the kitchen. It has also been the launching point of many trips to Mt. Rainier and hikes. Including the 93 miles of the Wonderland Trail around the mountain! We hope you have your own memories here and that you tell us a little about them in the Guestbook.

What makes this property unique

The Bear's Den is special because of the the way it can host groups and families. The large yard is set up with a volleyball net and many games to played in the nearly 1 acre of lawn. There is also a place to park an RV with a 110V AND 220V outlet and water spigot. There is an free to use level 2 EV charger making travel with an EV easy. The large hot tub and fire pit are welcoming and enjoyable addition to the large property. Although the house is technically a 2 bedroom there is plenty of bedspace and yard to pitch a tent and camp under the beautiful starry nights in Ashford.
