Jan's Lake Home

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Jan's on Lake Victoria. Jan was a very welcoming hostess, made sure to meet us and gave us a tour of her property and the pontoon and lake "toys". The kitchen was amazing and Jan has put a lot of thought into her home and wants to be sure her guests are comfortable there. Lake Victoria is a great lake and Alexandria has a lot to offer visitors. We highly recommend Jan's Lake home. thought

Great place for a family vacation!

We enjoyed very much staying at Jan’s place on lake Victoria! We spent most of our time in the beautifully updated kitchen and out on the deck that overlooks the lake! The pool and foosball tables were a nice bonus, too, in the evenings for our family. We appreciated the use of the boat lift for our small fishing boat as well as the kayaks and paddle board that Jan provide. Lake Victoria offers a nice variety of fish to catch and fishing spots to explore! We would recommend Jan’s place to families that enjoy being together at the lake!

Large lake house

Jan was so nice! The new kitchen space was a wonderful surprise and had everything we needed. The lake views are beautiful and the house had all the lake toys we needed. There were a few cleanliness concerns. Communication with Jan was very good and she always responded in a timely manner.

Fantastic week at Jan's lake home

Our family of 10 had a great time at Jan's lake home! We loved having two large living areas upstairs and downstairs so there was room to spread out. It is also has two indoor dining areas, in addition to the beautiful deck, where we enjoyed several meals. The kids put many miles on the ping pong paddles downstairs. We loved the private beach area and were able to enjoy the lake every day.We had fun with the kayaks and paddle boat After all the fresh air during the day, we loved stretching out on the big sofa in the evening and watching the large screen tv, The home was extremely well equipped for all our needs. The special touches, like the welcome basket of goodies, were really appreciated! When there was a problem , Jan had a handy man come over to fix it promptly and checked with us to see that it was ok. We look forward to going back to Jan's next summer

Visiting cousins

Comfortable home with amazing lake views and amenities. We could watch the sunrise. Fish right off the dock for Crappie and sunfish. We also fished off the pontoon and paddle boat. We were able to use the kayaks to go to both lake Jessie and lake Geneva - part of the chain of lakes. The game room was perfect for ping pong and the breakfast room table was big enough to join around for card games. We gathered each morning for coffee on the deck. During our stay there were three baby owls in the backyard trees. Pretty amazing to see ! Jan was a very attentive host. She had a treat basket for us upon arrival. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need. She responded quickly when we had any questions. It was so relaxing we lost track of the days of the week. The sign of a great vacation !

Good & Bad

For 19 years, my in-law family and I spent one week at this lake home. If you are looking for a huge lake home with lots of living space, a nice size kitchen, plenty of room to spread out and have your space, this is the place for you. If you are looking for an awesome beach area, this is not the place for you. When we first began coming to Jan's Place, it was really, really nice, but as the years went on, things started to fall apart or break and nothing was done about it. The deck was finally replaced a few years back after many years of a board being replaced here and there and much nervousness about it's stability. The 30 some steps going down to the lake are in desperate need of replacement...several of the boards are crocked and falling apart - a real hazard. If not careful, the boat lift will take your hand off as it doesn't work correctly. For 19 years we had the same two docks and for many, many years they both needed to be replaced...again several boards here and there have been replaced and the blue one is not level and super wobbly. For 19 years we had the same exact sheets on all of the beds! The king size room is great, but the other five bedrooms really need new mattresses. It's a mystery how sheets that are washed weekly can last that long. If you have a rainy week, the cabin is just huge and allows for everyone to have their space if needed, or if you want to gather together for games, etc., it is quite frankly perfect. However, probably the last 5-7 years the beach area has been absolutely horrible. The grass is long and not cut very often and when it was cut, it was often after we had arrived and we had to stand around and wait while it was cut. It's extremely mushy and wet down there and the last 5-6 years there have been large pieces of plywood randomly placed around to allow you to walk and not get soaked up to your ankles. Many of these boards are old, not in good shape, warped...believe me, several slivers were acquired. I realize that areas by the lake can be wet, but what should be done is maybe a large patio be built or there must be something to fix this problem. Last summer we spent most of our week at the neighbors beach area, as he was kind enough to let us hang out there when he went home for the week. Again, we had 19 years here and made a ton of great memories and we're thankful for that. It's just too bad the owner doesn't take some of that money she makes and replace and fix things!

Great Stay

We very much enjoyed our stay. The shady deck provided wonderful views of the lake, along with a great place to share meals. There are quite a few steps down to the beach, but that didn't pose too much of an issue with our group. The weather was very hot during our stay, and the house doesn't have A/C besides one portable unit, but the closeness of the lake along with the numerous fans made it comfortable. The pontoon worked great, and I'm told the fishing was good as well. The beach itself was great. The only real downside I would say would be that the water next to the beach was very weedy (likely due to hot the weather), so we couldn't do much near shore, but we were able to take the boat out further into the lake to get some swimming in. Jan was very communicative and helpful. I would completely recommend her place.

Family Getaway

My family and I stayed at Jan’s lake place for nearly 3 weeks as a sort of Covid getaway; so that we could quarantine and then visit with grandparents, aunts and uncles. The house is plenty big, perfect for our family. The pontoon was great and the lake was warm and so clean! The home is a bit older and definitely has more of a cabin feel vs a lake home, but at this price point I thought it was good value for the money. There are quite a few steps down to the water so keep that in mind if you have folks that aren’t quite as mobile as they’d like to be - wasn’t an issue for our group. Jan was an excellent communicator and anything we needed was taken care of right away. She even had a goodie basket including adult, dog and infant treats and got our son a birthday gift since she knew we were celebrating his first birthday at the lake place; so sweet! Would definitely recommend Jan’s Lake Place to families who want to spend some time at the lake or out on the water.

Wonderful Family Retreat

We had a fantastic time at Jan's Lake House! The house has the most beautiful deck ever that is a spectucular backdrop for family dinners and just enjoying the lake views. The home is very well stocked and we immediately felt very comfortable there. We stayed for 2 weeks and never ran out of things to do! The home is perfectly set up for families to stay in with 3 bedrooms up and 3 bedrooms down. The kids had a great time playing with the foosball table and ping pong table in the game room. Overall, a wonderful experience and I would recommend without reservation to other families. Oh, and the lake is fantastic too! Little beach for the kids.

Great Relaxing Getaway!

I had the pleasure to spend some time at Jan's lake home. What a treat! I love being able to start my day sipping coffee on the deck overlooking the lake. It's a great place with plenty of room for everyone to spread out and have your own space. There is lots to do with the kayaks and the paddleboat. She has a pontoon which can be rented and that is great fun to get out and cruise the lake. Well equipped kitchen. Plenty of things to entertain you if it's rainy with the pool table, foosball and ping pong, and big screen TV. The lake home is close to town so if you've forgotten something or don't want to bring everything with you, there's lots of places to shop. I had a great time - a relaxing getaway! Looking forward to returning next summer. Barb H

Space and relaxing on the lake!

Could not have found a better place to stay. Jan made us feel super welcome and we enjoyed every minute of our time there. The deer coming in at dusk to drink at the lake, the ducks and geese swimming right in front of the place during the day. The morning sunrises and the fires in the fireplace in the evening. Our stay was fantastic!!!

A beautiful September vacation.

Thank you Jan for sharing your lovely home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had everything we needed to feel at home. Victoria is such a nice lake and our pontoon cruises were very relaxing. Jan's information about Alexandria and her directions were great. One of the first things my family said was "Can we come back next year" and we are!

Clean, spacious, and well-kept lake house

Our family of 9 arrived at this spacious lake home on August 12th. A good time was had by everyone, despite the fact that Lake Victoria and the Alexandria area received several inches of rain during our stay. The high lake levels created some problems, but Jan (the owner) was very quick to respond, having such problems fixed in a timely manner. Also, it turned out that being close to a town the size of Alexandria was good for those rainy days and finding "things to do" with the kids. Everything taken together, we had a fun family vacation and recommend the property for larger groups.

Jan

We had a great time at the lake home, thought it was going to be a hot week with no air conditioning, but nice breeze most of the week and lots of shade. We thoroughly enjoyed the pontoon for fishing and cruising the lake. Our grandsons liked swimming in the middle of the lake several times! The view to the lake was awesome and saw many loons and a doe with 2 fawns! I'd recommend this lake home to stay for a vacation or get a way! Nice and close to town too!

Jan's Vacation Rental

We were finally able to arrange (and afford) a family vacation for the first time in 25 years. The week we spent at Jan's met all of our expectations and we all enjoyed ourselves greatly. We especially enjoyed the time we spent on the pontoon and relaxing on the deck overlooking the lake. The home has all the amenities you would expect and more. Even a water softener, an unexpected luxury. The home is very spacious so there is room for everyone. I think Jan has anticipated the needs of a wide variety of guests and if you need information she is readily available and there are local contacts for any assistance that you might need. We hope to return to enjoy this property again.

Great family lake memories!

We absolutely loved Jan's place. Perfect for our family to celebrate time together. We made so many special memories. The option of being able to rent the pontoon at such a reasonable rate was a great amenity that everyone enjoyed. Grandpa, the true fisherman in every sense, was very pleased there was also a small fishing boat included. He was able to rent a small motor for it locally and was happy as a clam to be out fishing in it with a grandchild or two. We have stayed there several times and love it more each time we go. Thank you Jan for a great place to stay!
