Great Apartment and great location!

This apartment was very clean, convenient and centrally located. All walking distance to food court, grocery store, small indoor shopping area. Hair salon, nail salon, laundry services, etc. The ocean views from the bedrooms were amazing. Overall we had a great stay and will definitely book this in the fiture again.

Great stay in this Monarch apartment!

We very much enjoyed our stay in this Monarch apartment. The apartment was clean, neat, and spacious. All amenities were available. We appreciated the security and help that the reception provided. It was also very nice to have a foodcourt and supermarket at the bottom of the building; everything we needed was available within a few steps from the front door of the apartment. We had a great time in the apartment and we will definitely book this apartment again when we will go to Colombo in the future.

Monarch Apartments Colombo

Visited the Monarch apartment recently as I needed to be somewhere with all the comfortable amenities whilst being able to feel 'at home' in my own space. The luxury apartment is one of my favourites; well-presented, spacious and modern deco with absolutely fantastic views of the sea! The hi speed wifi connection and cable TV is also a plus. Located very close to crescent boulevard shopping was convenient and Galle Face beach was just around the corner. The area itself is always very lively and full of life. There are a few other reputable hotels close-by so plenty of restaurants, bars and activities. A fairly central location and very easy to get a tuk tuk for travel. I would definitely recommend Monarch Apartments and hope to be staying again in the future.

Lovely sea view apartment in the best location

We stayed in this lovely apartment for just over a week. It is probably the best apartment so far that we stayed in Colombo City. We travel to Colombo every year and have chosen the best apartment this year. The apartment was very clean and we felt like our own home. The air-conditioning was superb, specially in the bedrooms. It kept us nice and cool. The sea view from all direction in the apartment is fabulous. Very bright and lovely view from the apartment huge glass panels. The beds and pillows are superb!. Good sleep after long day trips!. The Wi-Fi is super fast and manged to do some of my office work. The location and facilities around the apartment complex are the best in Colombo City Center. We enjoyed eating out in the Cinnamon Grand hotel restaurants. Sea food restaurant is the best in Colombo. Lovely walk to the Galle Face beach in the evening. We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely apartment and we will for sure return to this apartment.

Great Location - Disappointed with condition of apartment

We booked the Monarch apartment so that we would have more room than a hotel room for the duration of our stay. We were staying at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel located next to the Monarch apartment from December 15-23, 2016, then checked in to the apartment December 23-January 3, 2017. When we arrived to the Monarch we noticed there is a terrible smell in the corridor that leads up to the unit - a combination of old cooking smells, musk and garbage, the windows in the corridor are always open but there doesn't seem to be great air flow. When we opened the door to the apartment we were disappointed with how dirty it was. There was dust and grime everywhere, hair in the showers and bathtubs, the toilets were not clean, old razors, toothbrushes etc. We immediately called the property manager, he said he would call us back, we didn't hear back from him, even though we tried calling him 3 more times, there was no answer. The property owner was easily reached but with him being in the UK there wasn't much he could do. There was a leaking faucet, one of the air conditioner's in the living room would not turn on, cracks in the wooden floor, stained couches etc. We kept being told from the property manager and the crew that came to fix the leak and sort our other issues that the owner didn't have an account to fix these items. The towels were old and therefore we had to borrow towels from my sister staying at cinnamon grand. There were 2 hangers in each closet, therefore we had to buy plastic hangers to hang our clothes. While the location is one of the best, the unit is aged and is not being properly maintained. If the cost of the unit was less then perhaps my expectations would not have been so high. The property owner was very helpful though, and wanted to ensure we were ok, but unfortunately the property manager was not as concerned. This apartment would be ok for two adults only, or two adults and 1 or 2 kids. For those looking for good location this unit does not disappoint - the amenities within the cinammon grand hotel and crescat mall are excellent. And the location makes it easy to get in and out and visit all the other desirable areas within Colombo.

Comfortable and spacious apartment

We stayed in this comfortable and spacious apartment over the New Year and for the first weeks of January 2016. With all the amenities and comforts provided, it was just like being at home. This meant that we could turn all our attention to enjoying ourselves, visiting family and friends and exploring Colombo. The whole Monarch complex is maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and repair. Security is also efficient, with door persons at the entrances to the complex checking the identity of unfamiliar faces. Add to this the bonus of the shopping mall, Keells supermarket and a food hall in the basement, which is accessed directly by lifts within the Monarch apartment complex, and one has the perfect place to stay for an enjoyable and relaxing holiday. The owner of the apartment was most helpful during the booking process and provided extensive information to ensure our stay was comfortable. He also telephoned us the day after our arrival to check that everything was OK for us, which we greatly appreciated. His suggestions local restaurants were most helpful. We thoroughly recommend this apartment as an excellent base to enjoy Sri Lanka.

Beautiful apartment for a good stay

There are a few years, I lived in Colombo, working at the Embassy. I came back to spend a few days holiday with two friends. This property is very well located. We have a very nice view. Sea view, pool view. The Galle Face Hotel is just opposite. We are 10 minutes on foot from Kingsbury Hotel. The apartment is very clean, it has everything for a good stay. We also have a personal parking. The security service is present. If we need something, at the reception, they send us someone to do the necessary and quickly. I would have liked live in an apartment like that during my years in Colombo! We have a shopping arcade, a small supermarket, restaurants downstairs of our building. I recommend this apartment for anyone who wants to spend a pleasant stay in the center of Colombo. The owner is very nice and always makes sure that everything is perfect for our stay. Conclusion, beautiful apartment!

A beautiful apartment very conveniently located

The apartment is located in one of the best locations in Colombo City centre. Apartment was presented to us in a high standard. All rooms have lovely ocean view as well as being nicely furnished with solid teak furniture. Beds are very comfy and had clean white bed sheets and new pillows. Bathroom is very clean and had newly polished floor and good shower. Kitchen floor was also very well polished and all new kitchen utensils and white dinner set. Sofa was very clean as well as curtains. We are very happy to recommend this lovely apartment without any hesitation.

Extremely Poor and Dirty Condition - Totally Misrepresented

I booked this condo specifically from the description that this is a luxury serviced apartment and the 5 star review dated Dec 2012. What I got was a neglected condo!! Upon walking in at 3 AM after a long delayed flight, I was a shock to see a dirty apartment. The couch and chairs had large stains on the fabric. The floor was dirty and scratched. The walls and curtains had stains and mold. The furniture were worn with scratches. The bed linen was stained and looked as it was not changed since the last renter. But at 3 AM and tired from a long flight, I went to sleep for a few hours. In the morning, I noticed further neglect in this unit. The bathroom had black mold around the tub. The sink was loose and leaked. The kitchen was greasy with dirty pots and pan. There was an extra mattress pressed up against a window as storage. This apartment has not been cleaned or any maintenance done in a year at least. That was enough, I packed up and checked into a hotel that morning. I called the local contact person but he was not in town. I contacted the owner and his excuse was there was a recent water leak. He was arrogant when I described the poor condition of the apartment and even called me "cheeky". The pictures shown in this VRBO listing are now 5 years old. The current condition of this condo and the furnishings is poor and dirty. The experience of renting this condo is best described as a disaster. I took pictures of the problems in this unit but VRBO reviews do not provide for photos. In another travel site I also submitted a review and my pictures can be viewed there.

Superb apartment – highly recommended

This apartment is a home from home and certainly lives up to expectations. Food-court and supermarket in basement of the same block, certainly is a plus. Thiru, the owner, was a star, with advice on all things – from airlines to restaurants etc. Sri Lanka was magnificent, with friendly people and great sight-seeing. Colombo was much better than the guide books suggested, with many hidden gems – If you only open your eyes. We used - taxis, tuk tuks, trains and local buses – all do-able and certainly worth the effort for the experience. Missing the mad Galle road and 30c – arriving back to -1c. Thiru - thanks for all your help and hope to use one of your other apartments at some stage.

Lovely apartment in a good location

Really lovely apartment in a good location. Very clean, well maintained, gorgeous views. Booking this apartment was an easy and pleasant experience. I would definitely recommend to anyone. All bedding, bathroom towels, and soap was provided. As with most holiday rentals, remember to bring your own shampoo! Location was good. Supermarket, food court, restaurants and bars are all nearby. The bars and particularly The Lagoon Restaurant in the adjoining Cinnamon Grand Hotel were fantastic. The beach is only a short walk away. The bus and train stations are only a short tuktuk ride away. We had only two drawbacks, both of which were resolved. The first was that our names were incorrect on the booking sent to security, so they were not keen to give us the key until it was confirmed with the owner. This was a pain at 5h30 in the morning, but it was a good thing as it showed that security was good. The second issue we had was that we were leaving the apartment at 6h30 in the morning, so needed to get our deposit back the day before we left. Unfortunately, it was a holiday in Sri Lanka, so the agent would not come back to the apartment to give us our deposit back. We had to agree to return to Colombo before we flew home to pick up our deposit. Having said all this: This was the nicest accommodation we stayed in whilst in Sri Lanka.

A wonderful Home away from home

The apartment is centrally located and steps away from the Galle Face Green and the American Centre Library. The unit was as described - immaculate and tastefully decorated. The owner provided excellent customer service along with the Monarch staff to ensure our stay was not impeded by unforeseen details. When we decided on a last-minute extension of our stay in Colombo, the owner ensured a seemless transaction. Having the Super market and food court in the basement level was an additional convenience. The relaxed atmosphere at the Breezes Bar in the Cinnamon Grand Hotel was also an enjoyable meeting place with friends. This will be our first choice for accomodation in Colombo for future visits and will not hesitate to recommend it to friends and family.

Luxury Apartment

The apartment more than lived up to our expectations, just as good as the pictures on the web site. It was our air conditioned oasis to come back to after a hot sticky day shopping and sightseeing. It is so convenient to have the shopping mall, supermarket and food court below. A home away from home. We will have no hesitation in recommending the apartment to our friends and relatives.

Top Quality Apartment and excellent service

From the time our company made the booking to the time I left, I was looked after exceptionally well by the owner and his appointed agents in colombo who made may stay a really a pleasant experience. The apartment had everything you wanted in the kitchen, bedrooms, barthrooms and in the lounge. Cable TV and quality WIFI internet is a real plus for any businesman who wish to stay here. Air conditioning was very good and kept the whole place nice and cool On arrival I had a personal call from the owner from London, who called to make sure that everything was okay for me. 5 Star plus service !! Apartment is furnished to very high standards and is very spacious. It is a home away from home. It is so conveniently located to all amenities and has 24 hour security. The views are specatacular, I hope to stay in this apartment everytime I go to Sri Lanka which is a minimum of 6 times a year, sometimes with my family. This is a place for business persons, families and anybody who wish to have a luxurious stay in Colombo JF Chairman - GADP United Kingdom

Great place, great location

Visit to SL - August 2nd to 22nd, 2009

We highly recommend the place to any family visiting Colombo, Sri-Lanka, great amenities and friendly staff at the Monarch. The staff is ever ready to make your holiday a pleasant. The owner of the the property is a man of his word, you will have no issue dealing with him (even though we did not meet his host lawyer/manager) at the property, the Owner was always in contact with us. Any issues you can always call the Monarch reception they will assist you immediately. We look forward to staying at this property on our next visit to Sri Lanka!
