Nice stay, very nice rental property.

Stayed with good friends here late Sept 2024. Had a nice time. Very clean and comfortable, with great 50’s decor and b&w photos of the place back in the day. Really no complaints. Would stay again.

cozy and comfy

The perfect place to rest your feet after hiking all the lovely trails the area has to offer. Really appreciate the full kitchen as someone who travels with food allergies. Loved all the touches of family history.

Fishing in beautiful north east Iowa.

It was a very nice place to stay. Clean, comfortable. Love all your black and white photos on the walls. They told a story not too many people share. The restaurants were good and interesting, on both sides of the river. Lots to explore. Thanks for sharing. Dinna

Loved this Craftsman Cottage!

My friends and I loved this charming little home. It was perfect for three retired women who could truly appreciate the love and memories this family home holds. We loved the family photos throughout the house. We loved the privacy the house has and the front porch was perfect for lingering morning coffees and evening conversations. This home will bring back memories and you will love it.

Comfy Retro Cabin

This property was very nice. Clean throughout and it provided all the accommodations we could want. The neighborhood was quiet and felt very safe. The location was a nice short drive to all the area attractions, restaurants, and stores. A few small things to be aware of: The property is behind a busy train line, and there is a crossing near the entrance to the neighborhood and the train stops on it sometimes, so you may need to go around the long way to get to the place from McGregor instead. The main king bed is VERY firm, so you may need to run to the Walmart for a mattress topper if your back can't handle it. (Really, I think the owner should replace it with something a bit softer as we had to sleep in the twin beds the second night because we couldn't take it.) The bathroom is a little tight because of the toilet to vanity gap being small. And last, the basement is open to the kitchen, and there's some mechanical noise happening down there most of the time. It's quiet enough, and really only noticeable because of how silent the neighborhood is (besides the train horns). In the grand scheme of things, these are very minor complains, but we wanted to make sure other visitors were prepared. All that being said, we still enjoyed our stay. We would absolutely recommend staying here. This is worlds better than any local hotels, and easily the nicest rental in the area that was designed for a couple or smaller family. Next time we're in the area, we'll stay again.

Originally from Northeast Iowa, I've been hosting guests at the Craftsman Cottage for over 5 years. I enjoy sharing this family property and I'm proud to be a super host on other platforms.

What makes this property unique

This charming craftsman cottage has been in our family since by dad purchased it as a bachelor in the 1940's. Now it's where his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren come together to enjoy the Mississippi and everything NE Iowa area has to offer.
