About this property

Large Lakehome on Secluded Howard Lake Ideal for Multi Familys

Located just about 7 miles southwest of Walker. Vacation with your friends and family at our large lakehome, situated on a quiet bay of secluded Howard lake. Our home is large enough for multi familys with large bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and seperate apartment above the garage. Fish from the dock (or your boat) on this spring fed deep clear lake. Enjoy the sounds of the many loons that call Howard lake home. Paddle the canoe or paddle bikes to explore all this secluded lake has to offer. There is no developed public access on this lake, so it is very quiet but we do have a place that you can launch your boat. With cabins on just a portion of the lake, you are sure to get the true 'up north' feel your after. We have ample parking for all your cars, trucks and trailers, level lakelot with plenty of shade and beautiful crystal clear water, home to many species of fish and even more loons. This is a new home with approximatly 4,000 square feet and has something for everyone. Fishing is excellent, swimming is great and no matter what time of year, there is plenty to do. Winter is also a great time in this area with the great snowmobile trails, sledding hills, ice skating, skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing and more.
You will find everything you could need in our home for a great vacation. High speed internet for the person who needs to check into work now and then, or just for the convenience of surfing the web.
The apartment above the garage has its own kitchen, large bedroom, bathroom with shower and fireplace with flatscreen tv.
The main greatroom has flatscreen tv. with Direct T.v. and dvd. The decor is definitely 'northwoods' and has many mounted animals etc.
The house, patio and garage are wired with stereo and cd player with controls in each room.
Our rates for the fall and winter are basic and will be determined by the number of guests, inquire for specifics.
New for 2014 is a totally renovated garage into a game room with Ping Pong, foosball, gaming system (central air conditioning) and more.
We are a 'family orientated' Lake home and are not interested in hosting Bachelor/Bachelorette party's or Weddings, Thank you.

Family trip to lake
Wonderful, very spacious cabin was perfect for extended family. Everyone could spread out and can sleep a massive number of people. Lots of games and activities on site including ping pong, foosball, canoes and paddle boards, etc. Great place for a reunion. Owner was very responsive and even mailed back some items that were left behind promptly upon finding them. Highly recommend!

A perfect place for a family vacation..it just doesn't get any better
Our family included 8adults and 5grandchildren. We could not have been at any better place. The accommodations were excellent and Jeff and Barb are such wonderful people..our grandchildren never stopped playing, fishing.games and just being outside in the water and sand. They were never bored or ever asked what could they do. We went on the pontoon a couple times during the day and just relaxed and rode around on the lake. It was peaceful..we heard the loons talking and the lake was calm and not a lot of traffic on the lake making it a smooth ride. There was plenty of room in the house and everything we needed was there. Thanks Jeff and Barb for sharing your beautiful home..it was perfect.

TRULY AWESOME LAKE HOME! ABSOLUTELY PERFECT GET-AWAY!
This secluded, beautiful lake home ranks at the top - the best of the best lake vacation places! A 5 star rating does not do it justice - it is much better than that! Everything here is terrific! This is the perfect place to relax, unwind, forget about the busy-ness of home, and re-connect with family and friends! Everything in the description is accurate. The spacious kitchen is fully equipped with everything a large group could possibly need. The large table worked great for our whole family, comfortably seating 10 people. Others in our family who have traveled more say this is the best fully equipped kitchen they have ever seen! The bedrooms are very large with many beds to choose from. An added bonus for large groups - each bedroom has it's own bathroom! If you need more room, the apartment above the rec room is an awesome added feature complete with a kitchenette and beds for many more people. The decor throughout the entire home is truly the "Up North" feel and experience. The views of the lake are great. The home is complete with all the fun toys - both indoor and outdoor - so no matter the weather there is always plenty to do. Ping pong, foosball, game table, tons of Wii games, board games, puzzles, cards, DVD's, books. Sandy beach, great U-shaped dock for fishing from, canoe, paddle bikes, paddle board, raft to swim to, hammock for relaxing, pontoon to rent, and an awesome fire pit area by the lake for those evening gathering times and making s'mores. ACCESSIBILITY - This is the best feature by far of all the lake places we have ever been to. The "pavers sidewalk" from the home and patio makes it so easy for one in a wheelchair to get to the lake and dock and onto the pontoon. It was great to wake up to see my husband who is in a wheelchair, already out fishing at the end of the dock - able to get there on his own. And, really truly, he caught a 30" northern off that dock! ANOTHER BONUS - NO mosquitoes! We have stayed here 2 years in a row and have never had to deal with the bugs! The host, Jeff, checks in with us before our trip to see if we have any questions. He is always available via email and phone if any question arises and responds promptly. Thanks, Jeff, for all you do to make this an awesome vacation destination! This is a place everyone wishes was their own! Thank you for sharing your beautiful lake home with our family!

Amazing vacation!
Our family, 8 adults and 6 kids ages 3 to 10 enjoyed our stay so much!! The house was clean and well supplied which was much appreciated. The kids had a great time fishing from the dock. Jeff, the owner was very prompt with any questions we had.

Another great year!
Thank you for another great year at your wonderfully accommodating home. We are a family of three generations and have been "growing" to fill up every inch of your spacious home and secondary living space over the garage. Our five couples and eight youngsters enjoyed the large living spaces, beach, water toys, fishing, bug-free outdoor area and well maintained, clean home. Due to the cooler weather this year, the children enjoyed stuffing all their toys into the upper loft for a hide-out and kept them busy for many hours. The owners/managers are awesome! Thank you for all you do to make our stay a wonderful experience.

Beautiful beyond words!
We just spent our third year at this beautiful home. It has so much to offer. The beach is perfect for our young children, the dock provides plenty of room for everyone to fish, and the water bikes were a great way to enjoy the amazing scenery. There is also a fire pit close to the lake which we sat around every night to visit or eat s'mores. The home is spacious and well kept. Everything inside is top notch. The kitchen has anything you may need. The game room provides activities like ping pong, foosball, and a gaming system. The main living area is beautiful and has a perfect view of the lake. We love everything about this place. Jeff, the owner, takes great care of his home and his guests. This is an amazing property!

Large, spacious home yet feels cozy and comfy!
Our family of 6 adults and 4 children spent 4 nights at this spectacular home. The weather was exceptionally cold so we weren’t outside as much as we had planned but with the large game room and a closet full of board games we found plenty to do inside. This home has a warm, friendly feel and Jeff, the owner, was always easily reachable with a phone call. We enjoyed our time so much that before we left, we booked another weekend to go back! I definitely give a 5-Star rating and would highly recommend it ! Tom and Deb

Lake Home Perfection
My family has stayed here, I believe four years in a row now...and we hope to stay for life. We typically have anywhere from 12-20 people, and there is ample everything for everyone. My dad likes to chill inside and watch TV. My mom and I use the water bikes every morning and enjoy the beautiful lake views and wild life. My brother and nephews fish, swim and play football off the docks. We rent the pontoon every year (which is always fully stocked with gas) and take a nice ride in the afternoons, toss out the anchor, and just chill. My youngest nephew enjoys the the kids game room (also, fully stocked). They guys play poker everynight, we have a ping pong tournament, and play foosball and Wi (hilarious). Jeff has an extra fridge in the garage which is great for our larger group. Huge washer and dryer are super helpful. The home is just perfetion. The BEST part though, is the owner Jeff. Our family has come to consider him a friend, he is such a great guy and fantastic family man. He is a promp as it gets, and does everything he can to make your stay more enjoyable. We honestly couldn't ask for anything more! BOOK ASAP!!!

Perfect in every way!
This was our second year at Whispering Pines and our vacation was again awesome. Jeff added many new upgrades to improve on his already comfortable place. A new sectional in the great room was so nice and a new grill just to mention a few. The kiddos played at the beach and enjoyed swimming in a nice, sandy area. We did a lot of fishing right off the dock. It was also nice to just sit and enjoy the beautiful view by the fire pit This area is scenic beyond words. Jeff is such a great host. He called several times to make sure we were comfortable or to see if we needed anything. There was a storm while we were there and he checked in with us to make sure we were safe. It was a wonderful week. I highly recommend this property.

Rain or shine, this is a wonderful vacation home!
We are a family of 9 (ages 30-81) and vacation for one week together, every year. We always look for a vacation rental with outdoor AND indoor opportunities, (in case of inclement weather) and this year provided us plenty of both! We started the week with high temperatures in the 40's, which provided us with lots of opportunities to enjoy the game room activities, and ended the week with temps in the low 80's, just in time time try out all the water toys and even take a dip in the lake! The fishermen in our group were thrilled with the local fishing scene, and the non-fisherman in our group loved the fact that they could sit by the fireplace and read, or head into Walker to do some shopping and exploring. The house is also close enough to take a day trip to Lake Itasca State Park - a place we enjoyed very much! Jeff could not have been more helpful and accommodating! We did have a few questions upon arrival, and he answered them quickly. The house is very clean, well-equipped, very spacious and well-designed for large groups. the kitchen is a place we tend to congregate, so we were very happy that we all could hang out together there! We used all the water toys (canoe, water bikes and paddle board) and really loved the fact that there was something there for everyone. We did bring our own boat (after checking with Jeff) and appreciated the opportunity to do so. We enjoyed sitting by the outdoor fireplace, listening to the loons call, and especially, the quiet, thanks to this secluded location. We highly recommend this property and hope to get together here again in the future!

Another fantastic year!
This is our third year at your family-friendly home. We always have a great experience and this year was no exception. Lots of room for everyone - an important aspect for our growing family. We enjoyed the pontoon this year; the paddle board and paddle bikes; the diving dock; the fishing was the best ever (!!!); canoeing; biking and just plain strolling along the tree-lined roads. The garage converted to family space is a big hit for the young children with all the games, TV and lounge furniture. A big "THANK YOU" for everything you do to make our stay exceptional. One last "thank you" for the insect control that you utilize. I don't recall anyone with mosquito bites! Amazing for northern MN, and a factor when you want to do those fun evenings around the campfire.

Perfect for any group!
Jeff was very responsive and easy to work with. The home itself can't be beat! We were there for a girls getaway and what makes this property hands down better than the rest was the number of beds! Who wants to go on vac and have to share a bed and get a crappy night sleep? Not me! There were more than enough beds and space to get away when needed. We loved the big spacious kitchen (fully stocked with all pots/pans/crock pots we needed) and dining area, the awesome views from the living room, ample parking, and no shortage of bathrooms. We were there in Nov but got a little nice weather to enjoy the screen porch and backyard. We also had a great time in the game room and loved the surround sound wired through the home. We liked it so much that we've already booked another trip!

PERFECTION
Our family has vacationed in northern Minnesota for over 30 years. We've stayed in all kinds of places over the years, and this cabin is our heaven. We have returned here for three or four or five years now... I don't even know... and I cannot tell you how much we enjoy everything. It's loaded with fun stuff, and couldn't be owned and operated by a friendlier family. You will love Jeff and you will love his amazing cabin!!

Another great vacation here!
Our family vacationed in June 2016 at this beautiful home. This is our second trip to this VRBO and have to say "thank you!" to the great host/hostess for the family friendly house, yards and lake. They just keep giving us more reasons to return! The family fished, swam, enjoyed the swim dock, boated, surf boarded, aqua biked, had camp fires, grilled, biked on the fabulous trails and overall had a wonderful vacation. Hope to see you again next year :)

Great family get away
We had a wonderful time last week with family and friends. Our age group went from 10-68 and everyone had fun., even on a couple of rainy days. We played games, cooked, played in the water, enjoyed the pontoon, sat by the fire at night and listened to stories and the loons. The only bad part was having to leave after 7 days😞 The homeowner takes perfect care of this beautiful , quiet property

Exceeded our Expectations
This was the perfect house for our family vacation. We had 15 people ranging in age from 2 weeks old to grandparents and never felt crowded. We found plenty to do both outside and inside. Outside we enjoyed the water bikes, bean bags, fire pit, sandy beach, canoe, and swimming area. Inside we enjoyed the new game room, DVD player, Direct TV, and wifi. The kitchen has everything you would ever need and the laundry room was a definite plus. The up north decor in the house was beautiful as well as the view. The house had many creative details which added to the beauty of the home. The owner, Jeff, checked in with us several times and was always available if we needed. Here is our top ten list for this home. 10. Apartment 9. Game room 8. Beach 7. Fishing 6. Sound system 5. Fire pit 4. Screened porch and patio 3. Water bikes and canoe 2. Wildlife-Eagles, loons, and turtles 1. The awesome host, Jeff Thank you for an amazing week. We can't wait to come back.

Perfect Northwoods Getaway
My friends and I spent a long weekend at the cabin and were blown away at how nice it was. From the minute we arrived we were speechless. The photos online don't do the cabin justice. It was beautiful!! For it being the middle of April, we had the most spectacular weather. Everyone got their first sunburn! We spent most of our time either at the campfire or sunning ourselves on the patio. The cabin was so spacious and offered so many activities. We had 14 people and there was more than enough space. The garage space was stunning and offered everything from a poker/card table to ping pong and corn hole game. Jeff, the home owner, was very helpful along the way of booking the cabin. He was available for questions anytime we needed while staying the cabin! Overall, it was an amazing place to getaway and we didn't want to leave after the weekend. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Serenity at its Best!
If you are looking for peace and quiet and relaxation, this is the place. My family of four enjoyed this home for five days, and we didn't want to come home (back to reality). We can't wait to come back. The house is immaculate! The owners have put so much thought, time, and money into this property-no expense has been spared inside or out. The pictures on this site just do not compare with the reality. The Jacuzzi tub looks normal sized in the pictures, but it's huge! Plenty of room for two. The back patio outside has been paved all the way down to the deck. Incredible! There's a surround sound stereo system throughout the house and outside patio. The garage has been turned into a massive game room with Wii, bumper pool, ping pong, Foosball, bean bag toss games, and more. There's a closet with so many different board games to keep your whole family entertained for days. No need to bring toys; your kids will find no shortage of things to do. They have two water bikes, but it was too cold for us to try them out. Next time. The highlight of the trip for me was the serenity. I brought my laptop to work, took it out of my bag and set it up, but it was never opened. My husband had been putting in 80-90 hour weeks for the past month and a half. He shut off his work email and was never bothered. Our children made good use of the game room, and my daughter loved playing in the tiny loft area above the loft beds. The lake is calm, the sky is loaded with stars that you can't see in the cities, the trees offer complete privacy between you and the closest neighbor. If you need a break from reality, this is the place. Just so you know: If you plan to have all your meals at the lake house, there's a great grocery store in Walker where you can load up and never have to go back. If you plan to go out to eat, also go to Walker. At the first stop light (the grocery store is to your right), turn left. Attached to a small motel, is Jimmy's, a family restaurant that serves breakfast all day. Back to the stop light, turn right. The Outdoorsman Cafe is on your right a few blocks down. Go a bit further and turn left for the Zona Rosa Mexican food restaurant. Save room for their fried ice cream; it was big enough for all four of us. Additionally, make sure you go to Akeley to sit on Paul Bunyan's hand for a photo opp! Also go to the Itasca State Park, which is just 45 minutes away, to walk across the Mississippi River. Thanks again Jeff to you and your family!!!

Extended family vacation
This year we invited the rest of our family from Nebraska for an "upnorth" experience on Howard Lake. They were very impressed with the spacious and well kept house as well as the beautiful, quiet, clean, lake. The house and property are very accessible for people with mobility limitations - main floor bedroom with large walk-in shower, and especially the access to the back yard and dock. It worked very well for us and I would recommend this lake home to anyone that is looking for a quiet place to relax and enjoy the Minnesota lake life.

This is the perfect summer home on a pristine quiet lake. I am the planner for all family vacations and have been to numerous VRBO's. Well this year my family said I hit it out of the ball park! Everything Jeff offers is first class. He is a very kind man to work with and wants you to have the best vacation possible. The beach is beautiful and absolutely perfect for the little ones. The water clarity is awesome and so clean. If you are bringing your own boats it's all there for you at the two docks. My grand daughter who is 6 caught 4 large crappies, 3 sunnys, 1 bass and 1 small northern right off the dock within 20 minutes. We also had very good luck out on the water. The cabin is stunningly beautiful inside. All of the beds were comfy, not one complaint and I loved the linens and beautiful lodge look quilts. We had everything we needed in the kitchen. Beautiful dishware and new pans. The garage that has been turned into "the game room" is the best. Our favorite was the full size black bear holding the TV. Awesome! Just can't say enough about this place. If you want to "hit it out of the ball park" this is the real deal !!!

Beautiful lakeshore property with all the comforts of home . . . and more!
For the 5th year in a row, our family stayed at this beautiful lakehome and we were once again treated to more improvements on what was already a fantastic location. All 14 of us (ranging from adults down to almost 1) were impressed by the garage's entertainment upgrades. We took advantage of the comfortable chairs added to the fire pit area. It was very relaxing to sit down by the lake, enjoy the cool breeze and watch the eagles soar, while at the same time watching the kids cavort in the water by the sandy beach. Jeff has provided lots of fun activity possibilities, from pontooning and fishing to darts and ping-pong. Something to captivate people of every age . . . a definite 'must see to believe"!

My wife and I built this home as a dream getaway for our families. Of course with children and work, we can't be there all the time so we are renting it out on a limited bases. We are non smokers and do not allow pets on the property. We love to fish, hunt and spend time with our families. Being that this is our 'home away from home' you will find some of our grocery's in the cupboards but trust me, there is plenty of room for anything you bring. We want you to feel right at home, so use what we have if needed, all we ask is that you replace what you used. Sometimes a person forgets something or runs out of a certain thing they need, so we don't mind if you help yourself.

Why they chose this property

This area is so great for anything a person wants to do. We have the smaller lake living with close proximity to Leech Lake. You can be from our door to the landing on leech lake in 10 minutes.

What makes this property unique

Great fishing is right here. Our property is very quiet,so much piece and quiet, you will be amazed! Howard lake has no maintained public access, so it is very quiet here. Deep clear water, lots of loons, just really quiet.
