About this property

Uncle Jim's Country Hide-a-way

2,000 SQUARE FEET!
Well, hey! Y'all, welcome to Uncle Jim's! This land has been in our family since 1912, and we're glad to share it with you! Nestled in the hollers and hay fields of Eastern Kentucky, we're proud to call this place home and raise up the SEVENTH generation to live here.
Rise and shine in the picturesque rolling foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, with our roosters' crows (or draw the shades and black-out curtains and sleep in, the chickens aren't really that loud!). Enjoy provided farm-fresh eggs for breakfast and relax on the oversized covered porch with a cup of complimentary Keurig-style coffee or cocoa. Perhaps a baby lamb or goat kid will join your party? When in season, various garden-fresh produce may be available - taste the difference! Also provided is a dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, refrigerator/freezer, toaster, microwave, stove/oven/range, pots and pans and cooking utensils, and all the necessary plates, silverware and glasses/cups - just as if you were at home.
Only 15 minutes to Manchester, 20 minutes to London, or 30 minutes to Corbin and all the area has to offer - such as Levi Jackson Wilderness Park, the Daniel Boone National Forest, and the Corbin Arena.
Or venture a little further out and explore Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, "The Niagara of the South"! Maybe go fishing and cool off in the waters at Laurel River Lake? Or step back in time at the Hensley Settlement at Cumberland Gap National Historical Park! Is mountain music more your style?
Visit Renfro Valley, which hosts concerts year-round for older and newer ears alike. All four are an easy hour's drive away, or less.
Many nearby events throughout the year are sure to pique your interest, such as The World Chicken Festival, NIBROC, The Redbud Ride, Native American Heritage Festival, Hillbilly Days, and The Colonel Fest (as in Colonel Sanders - did we mention that the first KFC was in Corbin, and you can visit the museum 7 days a week and order your favorite chicken dinner to bring back).
Of course, you're also welcome to just stay in and relax. Draw yourself a bath and read a good book, or binge your favorite show that you haven't had time for. Your vacation is yours to enjoy as our guests.

Note to guests, this is a family-run homestead. You will have the guest house all to yourself. We homeschool, and in addition to our children, have critters running loose most of the day. As such this disclaimer is necessary:
"Warning: Under Kentucky law, there is no liability for an injury to or death of a participant in an agrotourism activity conducted at this agrotourism location if the injury or death results exclusively from the inherent risks of the agrotourism activity and in the absence of negligence (KRS 247.800-247.810)"

Great place to stay

The house was wonderful, 3 bedrooms with plenty of space. My group was pleased with all aspects of the house. If our family does another reunion next year, I am sure we will be contacting the owner for another stay.

Perfect front porch

We had a wonderful stay. The house was clean and roomy. The front porch was perfect for sitting and enjoying the view as well as listening to the critters. Definitely recommend.

Traveling Through

We were on our way to the Smoky Mts. It was a one night stop. The property is beautiful! It is certainly off the beaten path but so quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed all of the farm animals, our fresh egg breakfast and the tranquility! It was not a far drive from there to the Cumberland Falls Resort State Park which we also hit on the way to TN.

Amazing home

There is only good things to say all around! Amazing location super quiet but near town if looking to explore gorgeous views all the way around and the visiting animals are just icing on the stay. The house is super spacious and feels like you’re coming home the moment you step in. The steps taken by the host are above and beyond! Some things he has thought of you yourself might not have. Our trip was for a funeral so not a happy reason, but this home this location this host made what was a sad time for us happy. We were all able to be comfortable and have very enjoyable time during our stay and relax under the circumstances. We have already discussed it and will be visiting again hopefully yearly! If for any reason you were on the fence with this location I promise you it’s worth every penny and more you won’t regret it.

An ABSOLUTE MUST-STAY!!! Perfect for all travelers!

We stayed here with our family of four, and loved EVERY MINUTE! The property sits just minutes outside of the main town, perfectly situated! Located on an expansive and quiet plot of land, you have beautiful fields surrounding the home, friendly neighbors, and tons of privacy! The house has 3 large bedrooms, all with very beautifully decorated queen beds that were super comfortable! The bedrooms are large enough to support any extras your family may need to bring along (playpen, etc), and we were even surprised to see they also provided a toddler bed & crib/changing table combo for us to use! Plenty of closet space, large comfortable living room, beautiful dining room, & a full size kitchen! Laundry, 3 full bathrooms, and an adorable fully stocked coffee station provide everything you could need to be comfortable here as a couple or as a large family! I would happily bring the grandparents or extended family along for our next visit!! Everything was very carefully considered, and very well planned out. The owners clearly put a lot of attention into making guests comfortable; tons of outlets, lamps in every room, TV, wi-fi, and even ice in the freezer! I know these seem like small things, but when you travel with small children, these tiny touches make all the difference. Our favorite part was sitting on the large attached front porch at sunset, and just chatting and enjoying the view! DO NOT MISS THIS HIDDEN GEM! We took a chance on this newer property, and LOVED IT!!!

About the host

Hosted by Uncle Jim

Host profile image
We've relocated from city upbringings to get back to our country homesteading roots. We're learning a lot as we go, and want to share it with you! We enjoy meeting new folks and have no problem front porch sittin' and gabbing as the sun goes down over the tree-topped Appalachian foothills. Of course, if you want to be left alone, that's just fine too!

Why they chose this property

We didn't choose this neighborhood, this neighborhood chose us! This land has been passed down generation to generation in my family, and we're now raising the SEVENTH GENERATION here, along with our homestead critters. The peace and quiet of country living, the scenic mornings and evenings, and the freedom to just be yourself is what we want to share with you!

What makes this property unique

This property is the guest house on our homestead. HOUSE - not tiny home or cabin - 2,000 SQUARE FEET to relax in!
On any given day, you can see our horses, cows, chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, guineas, pigs, cat and dogs, sheep, and goats! If they're not perusing the yard, we have them in a pasture nearby that can be accessed - just let us know!
