Robins Nest cabin has solar power; it does not have wi-fi. Stay in an off-grid cabin and retreat in Maine's Western mountains & lakes region. Retreat in Robin's Nest, tucked into the woods for your private nature getaway. Come to write, read, create, connect or find stillness and silence. Make this your base for outdoor recreation and adventure. There is no running water at your cabin; however, we do supply you with jugs of pure mountain water, and a compost toilet nearby. There is not a bathroom in the cabin. There is a warm shower at the top of the access road, where you can refill your jugs for drinking, cooking and dishes. This is a about a 5 minute hike. We provide the cabin with a 2-burner propane stove for your simple cooking along with all the dishes, utensils, pots/pans, etc. You heat your cabin by wood stove for your tending and we provide ample wood for your stay. IMPORTANT NOTES: You need to provide your own linens/towels and pillow and we recommend a 20 degree F. rated mummy sleeping bags in fall, winter and early spring. Mosquito and black fly conditions vary. Peak exposure is between Mother's Day and Father's Day. Dress in light colored and loose clothing and bring your own favorite repellent. We do not provide campfire wood. Please bring your own camp fire wood or gather it from the retreat land forest floor. This cabin is family friendly, too. Kids thrive here! Kids 8 and under are free and please let us know how many are in your group so we can set up the space accordingly. We have a "self-check in" system. We suggest if you have never been here before, please arrive before dark. If you cannot, have a flashlight/headlamp handy upon arrival. Outdoor lighting is minimal or nonexistent, depending on conditions. You will find a map board on a tree in the parking area. The sleeping arrangement options are as follows: 1 full (double) real bed 1 set of hand crafted bunk beds (singles) Based on availability and advanced booking, you may have the opportunity to add services to your getaway, such as a private wood-fired sauna session. About the land: Our retreat sits on 33 wooded, hillside acres at the base of Pleasant Mt, offering private hiking trails, a crystal clear brook with dipping pools and granite sleuths and soaking pools right near by. We have a medicine wheel for a spectacular place to sit with long views of Mount Washington and the White Mountains National Forest. We border Nature Conservancy and Loon Echo Land Trust lands, forever protected from development. There is a composting toilet nearby (about 50 yards up the access road from your cabin), an outdoor fire circle, picnic table, hammock and outdoor seating on small porch. Please note there is no running water in the cabin. A seasonal outdoor shower is available at the Mt Pleasant Lodge. Also, we now have a warm shower for our guests, a hybrid system with solar, wood and propane on demand for limited, mindful usage, located a 3 minute hike up from your cabin at the Pioneer Shower Room where you can also refill your water jugs. We respect our guests' privacy through our self-check in system. There are occasions where the hosts may not be present during your stay, and just a cell phone call away. And during your stay, we may check in with a text or call to be sure you are all set. Our phone number will be in your cabin for you if there is a need. Rural, countryside destination along a quiet, well-maintained, unpaved road. Forest, mountains, ponds, lakes, rivers, our own spring-fed mountain brook, wildlife, and clear skies. We feel very remote and rural yet are accessible to nearby villages and towns for your sundries, ice, supplies, groceries, farmers markets, dining and the like. What we love most about this part of the world is that the landscape, waterways, and mountains are so incredibly beautiful (stunning, really). And amidst the beauty, culture thrives, through art, music, dining and a warm, friendly, safe community of people surrounding this place, making it a getaway that feels like home. We are grateful we get to share it and call it home, too.
