About this property

Beautiful Sunsets and Peaceful lake views

Our cottage is a quaint 2 bedroom bungalow with a sandy beachfront and beautiful sunsets! The cottage sleeps 5 in total. There is a hid-a-bed couch should you want to add 2 guests. There is one full piece bath, an eat-in kitchen, living room with floor to ceiling fireplace and a screened in sun porch for lazing around and enjoying a peaceful view of the lake. The cottage’s main water source comes from the lake, even though it is filtered I do not recommend you drink it therefore, there is a water cooler provided for drinking, washing/rinsing purposes (2 empty jugs are supplied and can be exchanged in local town for new full jugs) a stove, microwave, fridge/freezer, coffee maker with filters, and a Tassimo machine (Coffee pods not supplied), a toaster, TV with DVD/VCR player and a selection of children's and Adult PG movies. Outdoor facilities include a propane BBQ (an **empty tank (**last guests who filled/exchanged tank may not have used it all) is provided, and can be exchanged in local town for a full one), an outdoor swing, 3 kayaks, a paddleboat and a paddle board, clothes line and a fire pit (wood can be purchased in the local village of Cobden). All items are “use at your own risk”. Your boat(s) must be launched at the boat launch in Cobden as there is no boat access to the lake at the cottage. This peaceful location can offer great fishing, swimming, and kayaking. The sandy beachfront is perfect for sunbathing and just relaxing.

Note: **Blue Algae is a natural occurrence in lakes in Ontario and can bloom during an extended hot period over the summer. In the past the municipality said it has been sited approximately 5 km’s down the lake on the opposite side from our cottage, at the local beach/boat launch.

**Fire Bans may also be a normal occurrence during a extended hot/dry periods during the summer months according to the Cobden Fire Department.

**Weeds are a natural occurrence in a lake and may be more liberal around the shoreline if not disturbed by swimmers and boaters alike.

***Renters will be contacted by me and/or the authorities that govern these occurrences should it become unsafe to swim or have a camp fire during your stay.

***Cancellations, discounts, and/or refunds will not be accepted based on the fact that these restrictions MAY occur over the course of the summer, before or during your stay within the normal cancellation policy.

The local town of Cobden offers artisan shopping, a farmers market, a beach and a boat launch. There is white-water rafting in the area, along with water slides, mini golf, and zip-lining at Logos Land. The Oaks of Cobden golf course and the Whitetail Golf Club are close by also. The small city of Pembroke is a great place for dining out, shopping, including a drive-in theatre, and it is just a 1/2 hour drive.

We enjoyed our time together. It was close to home, it was quiet and serine. It is an older dated property that could use an update. Terry Terry

Peaceful lake front cottage

Loved this cottage. The lake is beautiful, water is nice enough for swimming and we had lots of fishing , kayaking and paddle board fun! Beautiful sunsets. Cozy cottage with lots of extra blankets which we loved. Nice and clean. Love the screened in porch for morning coffee and just to sit and listen to the water. Thank you so much.

Feedback

A cottage well equipped to make meals, enjoy sunsets in porch without worry of mosquitos, equipment for folks who enjoy water sports. However, no TV coverage, only WIFI so evenings , if not folks who enjoy doing games, watching DVDs, evenings can be boring. Toilet usage can be a bit troublesome if a large group as takes time for removal of wastes via toilet. Overall, for us, it met our needs.

Feet in the water and love in our hearts

We really enjoyed staying at this cabin. The property was clean and everything we needed was there even on cooler nights. We had to clean the side of the water a little since a lot of seeweed was there but overall it was great. We enjoyed some kayak on a super calm lake. Little town near by where we went to get evetables that we needed. All our family really enjoyed our stay and definitly will recommend this cute paradise.

Fun and misadventure

First impressions were a bit disappointing because the lawn hadn't been cut and the beach was untidy with plant growth. Before long that didn't matter because the kids had a blast. We did have to contend with pieces of the dock lifting during a storm, and the screened porch getting a good soaking because the windows had to remain open. Other misadventures included a fish hook in the foot of a five-year-old, and a nasty rash from a plant when we moved the peddle boat. A few recommendations: a rake so visitors could clear away some of the algae at the water's edge, and an upgrade in internet providers, perhaps a local Whitewater one. The swing and the campfire pit were big hits!

Could have been a great stay!

I did love the location and neighborhood. I asked if i could dock my boat on site, water was to low and the dock was almost dry. The water pump at one point stop working. The bathroom at one point had water on the floor coming from the toilet. It took 2 days before the owner came to fix it as no plumber were available! The sofa bed is not usable as a bed! Bring your owned coffee machine as the Tassimo would not worked for us, so went to Pembrooke to get a coffee machine. So the place is wonderful but needs a lot, lot, lot of love. I paid to much for what i had but would go back if everything was updated.

Disappointed.

The only bed that was comfortable was the one with the Queen size bed. The pull out bed in the living room needs a new mattress as well as the room with the bunk beds. The kids sleeping in there only weighed 75 to 80 pounds and they said the could feel the springs. There was nowhere to store garbage or recycling bins. The best part of the cottage was the front porch facing the lake. We could not use the peddle boat because it was full of water inside and was very heavy and dirty. The add for the cottage said it had a functional peddle boat when it had been damaged by a previous renter. All in all we would NOT rent this cottage again nor would we suggest it to anyone we know. It was not worth the $1,600.00 that we paid.

The cottage was very comfortable and was exactly as advertised. The screened in porch was definitely a highlight as were sunsets. The bbq was replaced this summer and it works very well. The lake is exactly as described on the Vrbo listing. We had good luck going in Sept.

Well-equipped, nice getaway from the city

The screened-in porch was wonderful. We enjoyed watching the sunset each night, and we saw the heron fishing on the beach right in front of us. The water wasn't swimmable during our stay but we enjoyed kayaking. Sylvia was very responsive and quick to answer all our questions. We forgot a cooler bag full of food, containers and ice packs, and Sylvia was kind enough to mail it back to us with clean containers! We have a few small suggestions to increase the comfort of future guests: - neither bedroom door would close completely - beds weren't very comfortable - window coverings would be nice to keep out the light Other than that everything we needed (life jackets, kitchen utensils) was there.

Disappointed!!

2 weeks before our arrival the owner notified us of the blue green algae warning just issued for the lake. (This was not 30 days before our arrival, so no refund was available as well as no discount). I was not aware how much this would impact our vacation. After contacting the Renfrew health unit I was told it would not even be considered safe for our grandkids to use the water to build sandcastles! On top of all this, we had record heat so we’re left staring at a lake we couldn’t cool off in and no air conditioning, just fans!! Our kids & grandkids left in less than 24 hrs. What we had hoped would be a lovely family time together after my husband’s illness followed by 18 months of covid was instead a disaster. Not the owners fault the lake was so toxic & not her fault the temperatures were so unbearably hot but not an enjoyable cottage vacation at all! We left early.

Perfect rustic cottage, very appreciative of all the fans on the hot day. It was unfortunate that the water wasn't swim able due to algae count.

Cute and cozy cottage

The cottage was a nice stay. Very cozy and well kept. However, the sleep was not very comfortable, bunk bed mattress was very old, no curtains in bedroom. Brought our own outside chairs, propane, and drinking water. It was a lot to bring for the price and comfort. Sylvia was very nice and quick to respond.

Pros and Cons

Quaint cottage in a very quiet area. Nightly campfires were lovely. Friendly neighbours who let us borrow their rake to tidy the beach. Secured a full propane tank for the BBQ to start the week, only to find the BBQ was less than stellar with flames singing 2 spots and not heating elsewhere. Glad my husband is a whiz on the grill. We made do. On our last night we were looking forward to BBQ fish, but the BBQ was taken away by some maintenance personnel in the morning. A newer BBQ was delivered later that day (yay!!), with an empty propane tank (ugh). Not a great surprise on our last night, and not willing to drive to town to refill it again. I wish we'd been given a head's up, and the full propane tank we started with. Pros - loved the kayaks and paddleboard. Great sunset view from the lakefront. Appreciated fans in every room, a washing machine, and clothes line. Cons - wished the shoreline was raked before our stay to rid of lake debris, a dead fish and dead bird. Curtains on the windows would have been appreciated. Not many trails within walking distance from the cottage. Brought our bicycles, but very few trails nearby to ride or walk. Must do: Bonnechere caves were great. Shaw woods was the best hike we've had in years (wear lots of bug spray!!) Whitewater brewing company pub in Cobden- great food and beverages! Don't bother: Logos Land. Waste of time and money.
