About this property

Lovely restored farmhouse in Provence surrounded by sunflowers & vineyards

Old charming stone house in Provence, Drome Provencale, the country of lavender and sunflowers. The house is surrounded by fields of sunflowers, wheat, and vineyards. About 1 km away from the charming little village of St Gervais sur Roubion. This old farm is built of 4 buildings wrapped around a courtyard, and surrounded by a luscious garden with magnificent fruit trees and flowers. The courtyard provides shade and protection from the occasional wind. In the South, a terrace and pergola offer a beautiful setting for lunch and dinners al fresco overlooking the fields.
The house has 3 bedrooms on 2 floors, and can comfortably sleep 6 to 8 people.
The downstairs bedroom has a double bed. One of the upstairs bedroom has a double bed and a single bed, and the second upstairs bedroom has a double bed and 2 single beds.
The house has a large bathroom with a bathtub and sink, as well as a washing machine. There is, on the same floor, a separate shower, and a half bathroom.
The kitchen is well equipped including oven and stove, microwave, dishwasher, and a large farm table for 8. It opens onto the living room which is very comfortable, and has a large stone fireplace around which to sit.
The house is equipped for children, with games, swings, bicycles, and a lot to explore. It is a peaceful and romantic spot decorated with exquisite taste in the luscious Provencal tradition.
One of the buildings has been arranged as a separate house where one of the owner, Virginie Souquet, lives yearlong with her 3 dogs. We refer to this building as "the little house". It opens onto a separate area of the garden, respecting the total privacy and quiet of the main house. The dogs are peaceful and calm and live in an enclosed area in front of the little house which gives them no access to the rest of the property. The resident of the "little house" travels often and is not always there, but when present, she is a great resource of information on things to do and see in the region, and is happy to answer any question.

The house is owned by the Souquet family whose members live or have lived in France, the USA, Latin America and Africa. Every year, we all gather in the house to share family moments, recharge batteries and share some of the treasures the region has to offer.
We have chosen not to install the internet in the house but you can easily turn your cell phone into a hot spot or go to the local café who offers free internet access.

The charm of old stones and the peacefulness of the area made us fall in love with the house. The region is beautiful, easily accessible and conveniently situated to provide access to the countryside, the mountains and the sea within a couple of hours.

Drome Provencale. Montelimar-Dieulefit.

Wonderfully authentic home in great rural setting
We spent a wonderfully relaxing week exploring this amazing area of France surrounded by pretty mountain villages and river gorges in the middle of Rhone valley in northern Provence. The house was perfectly equipped for an authentic French experience, with plenty of indoor and outdoor spaces to enjoy. Nearby villages offer an array of modern and traditional fare and culture, including Market days and local festivals. We were within easy driving of some of the most unspoiled and dramatic countryside as well as historic areas and larger cities. I will definitely return to this region again and stay at this fantastic family homestead which is the perfect base for get away from it all holiday.

Wonderful, wonderful !
The place is a treasure. Nestled in a part of Provence that isn't troubled by tourist throngs, "La Lauze was great getaway for our family. The layout provided a perfect combination of togetherness and privacy; the architecture an intriguing mix of ancient and modern; very clean and well-maintained; owners are relaxed and welcoming. Close to shopping, bakery, cafe, etc. I can easily recommend this place.

A perfect retreat
The first time we visited La Lauze, we were in absolute heaven. We are a family of five, and despite the variety of ages in our party, everyone's needs were met and exceeded for the duration of our visit - not an easy feat! The beauty, warmth and charm of the property and the Souquet family cannot be matched. From the moment of our arrival, we were amazed at how lovely and well-equipped the home is, as if every possibility has been anticipated and planned for. The location of La Lauze is ideal. Surrounded by fields and nestled in a valley, the tranquility of the property is incredible. Yet, within a two hour radius, you will find everything you could imagine - from small medieval villages to bustling cities like Avignon to the Mediterranean Sea; from the Luberon to the Ardeche. No matter where the day brought us, the oasis of La Lauze awaited our return. A typical day went like this: Wake up around 7am, head down to the boulangerie for our baguette and croissants, return and sit in the courtyard over tea and croissants while perusing the schedule of the marches. We haven't been to that village yet? Then let's go!! We would grab the market basket and head out. The scenery while driving through the countryside is beyond anything I could hope to adequately describe - just stunning. Once at our destination, we would do our marketing, and then explore the village. If it was a larger village or city, we would perhaps stay and have lunch so we could do a bit more exploring. Then, back to La Lauze, where we would retire to the courtyard to read and relax for a time and where the children would play croquet, or rehearse 'shows' they had developed. Then, the absolute pleasure of preparing dinner with the bounty we'd found at the marche that morning. We might eat at the dining table in the kitchen, or in the courtyard, or on the terrace outside the courtyard (a favorite place to stage the shows). Then, bath and bedtime for the children, and time for my husband and I to relax in the courtyard or off the terrace with a glass of wine and watch the sun set over the mountains. How could it be more perfect than that? We did spend some days venturing further out and coming home just to roll into bed, but we found we missed our time at La Lauze and would find ourselves sticking closer the following day. Our 'once-in-a-lifetime' trip was so amazing, we had to return, which we did, two years later. We can't wait to return again!!

La Lauze - relaxing, comfortable, beautiful
My two sisters and I escaped last July to the golden sunflower and fragrant lavender fields surrounding La Lauze. The large, fully equipped and comfortable stone house, with its surrounding lawn, fruit trees and views of the local dramatic mountainside provided a relaxing atmosphere and everything we needed for a relaxing and lovely French experience. A short drive away we found lovely markets, pristine little villages, and bustling but charming Montelimar where the Tour de France made one of its last stops before heading back to Paris. To barbeque and dine outside at La Lauze was a memorable experience. The people, the food, and the beauty of the Provence countryside made it difficult to leave. I HIGHLY recommend your stay at La Lauze; you won't forget it!

La Lauze
La Lauze: This stone farmhouse in the French Provençale landscape was the ideal getaway from my normal stress and work in New York City. It has a memorable, enclosed for privacy but open to the sky courtyard, which is very nice. We often ate looking out over the farmland on the terrace by the fig tree. The eat in kitchen is very country, and there is a bedroom downstairs and two more upstairs where one can have privacy. It was an unforgettable experience to visit the beautiful old villages like Poet Laval (that dates back to the time of the Crusades) and the village of Dieulefit. Wonderful! And if one likes a large city Montelimar is 20 minutes away, where Bégude is very small and only 5 minutes. Here one can get a fresh morning croissant, pain au chocolat or french bread. My girlfriend and her best friend loved the outdoor markets at the nearby villages, where we found fresh fruits (pêche blanche!), vegetables, olives and goat cheese. Delicious! For me I loved my walk in the mountains that surround and overlook the valley, and enjoyed the local pool. Unforgettable and magnifique!
