Lovely stay in Staunton

My group of friends who were visiting Staunton for the first time are already making plans on returning, and I hope we can stay at the Flora Stuart house again! It's a beautiful home, conveniently located to downtown Staunton, and the owner was easy to communicate with and accommodating. More blankets and toilet paper would be appreciated, but overall, the house was stocked very thoughtfully and sparkling clean. The owners provided a lovely guide for us before our stay, and the Thai restaurant across the street was a huge hit with our group. We enjoyed walking to downtown Staunton for shopping the well-curated boutiques and enjoying the variety of dining options, hit the Saturday morning farmer's market (complete with live bluegrass), and of course, made it to the theater. But we also luxuriated in the coziness of the Flora Stuart house, which was perfect for snuggling up by the fire with a book, or lounging in the lovely outdoor areas -- take your pick from the hammock, swing, or several seating areas -- you can't go wrong!

A great property

This house was perfect for our trip in many ways. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was perfectly stocked, the deck was beautiful and inviting. The house is in a great location to walk to town where there are many great restaurants to try. The property owner was helpful and thoughtful. The kitchen had all items necessary and the bathrooms had plenty of towels, toiletries. They even provided laundry detergent and dishwasher pods! So helpful! The sitting room and living room were comfortable and the bedrooms were great! I highly recommend this property if you are planning a stay in Staunton area.

Fabulous getaway

The house and grounds are beautiful. The kitchen is well stocked. Everything was decorated for Christmas including a beautiful tree! Communication with the owner was easy. We went hiking in the Shenandoah National Park and explored the historic town of Staunton. We enjoyed a special anniversary dinner at Zynodoa which was superb. This property is the perfect blend of modern comfort and Victorian charm. Highly recommend!

Wonderful vintage home, easy walk to town

We were so delighted to be able to snag this home in time for Queen City Mischief and Magic 2024. We had a large-ish party with a need for four separate bedrooms, and this was one of the only available options that was still an easy walk to town. There were tons of vintage touches in the home, as well as lots of HP theming (which was great for us; I'm sure they decide whether to do it based on who's staying there!) The upstairs bedrooms are air conditioned, so if it gets warm, you can retreat upstairs. There's a nice Thai restaurant literally right across the street if you want to grab takeout or do a sit-down meal just a stone's throw from your front door. I think the only age group I wouldn't recommend this for would be babies/toddlers, as there's no bathtub (nice big shower though) and there are lots of stairs.

We call the Outer Banks of North Carolina home. My wife, Meg, and I have a 10-year old son and a Silver Lab and love to travel and explore. We've enjoyed the use of other gracious hosts' homes and wanted to share our own. We hope you will love it as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

Living at the beach full-time makes us long for the mountains. Virginia is such a beautiful state and Staunton is as tranquil as it gets, truly a "Hallmark-" kind of town, with so much to do locally and just outside of the city limits.

What makes this property unique

The Flora Stuart House c.1892 is less than a 5-minute walk from downtown Staunton. You will hear the gentle whistle of the train when it rolls through and the chimes from the downtown clock tower. We have preserved the property as much as we could while still providing a comfortable place to relax, cook, play games, rest and visit.
