It was a super cool place. The train is not necessarily in prime location but is walking distance to main St. And very close to HEB for supplies. Every thing in the train car seemed unique to the FDR theme. The train is very large and comfortable. Overall we just loved the whole experience of sleeping on a train car. It was so interesting and fun!
This property is beyond what the photos show it’s in a prime area easy to get anywhere you might be going. I would stay here again without a doubt. If you want unique this is it
If you're looking for a historical experience this is it! A nice stay in a train car with fun USA and Texas history. Just a 5 -10 min walk to Main Street with lots of shopping and food, plus a 10 minute walk to the National WWII Pacific Museum.
Loved the unique place to stay. Great proximity to Main Street. Needs a new bed that doesn't sink down in the middle and Kuerig coffee for guests. Only hot chocolate available but HEB was right down the street. Other than that, was a cool place to stay.
We do not like “cookie cutter” hotels. The Palace Pullman Railcar IS special. We LOVED all the memorabilia! Thanks to Pat for answering any questions. We WALKED to the Main Street and thus avoided trying to park! HEB is just a short distance too. We thought having two bathrooms a true luxuary!! We brought our own snacks ....don’t expect to Cook but there is a microwave and small refrigerator. Five star stay!
We were so excited about this historic place to stay for our Anniversary. It was definitely different and as soon as we figured out the layout, we tried to settle in...the history was evident with the books, letters & photographs and memorabilia of Teddy Roosevelt.
Hmmm...then we saw several light bulbswere burned out right where we wanted them, like the bathroom area and the night table. Also, the closets were a mess with broken rods and other broken things on the floor of one closet. We just used the door hooks to hang up clothes . Nice wooden hangers were also piled on the floor of the closets. ??? Luggage racks would be nice or a bench at the foot of the bed. The bathmats needed refreshing....they felt dirty.
The galley kitchen was fine and there is a small refrigerator and a Keurig coffee maker and a few dishes and utensils.
It was very quiet and felt safe at the edge of town.
I hope the maintenance will improve for future visitors.
We did enjoy the novelty of narrow corridors and the charming little game/ breakfast room and the history behind the Pullman car😊
Thank you so much.
Priceless Historic experience and great accommodation
What an incredible experience! Spending the night in a 19th century Pullman that a President traveled in almost 120 years ago is beyond words. With Victorian furnishings and period and Presidential artifacts it was like staying in a museum! Even better than the pictures, the amazing surprise was that you had every modern convenience you could need or want. Very spacious, separate entry parlor and cozy, romantic dining room and comfortable bed and 2 bathrooms, one with shower and the other with a huge Victorian claw foot tub! Less than 5 minutes to Main Street and most all great restaurants in town!
A must stay for a great experience!
Enjoyed experiencing a step back in history. Have often imagined what it would have been like traveling by train. This would have been first class travel in its day. Great experience!
Really unique stay with detailed focused to history. Great attention to detail on decor elements, including upholstery, furniture, books and more.
Pros:
This is a phenomenal getaway for a couple. Two bathrooms, two bathing areas (although they are tight), and two dressing areas. Two work areas for those that are working remotely right now where each can have privacy to focus. This is a genuine Pullman train so the history, nostalgia (and gentle wear) is part of the charm, so be aware that the size and dimensions are over a century old. Bed is incredibly soft, with strong AC (takes awhile for it cool the car in the midday heat but was perfectly cool in the evening) and a standup fan.
Cons:
Galley is severely limited, offering only a small fridge, sink, microwave and glasses/flatware/cutlery. This is more than enough to enjoy small bites, leftovers, morning coffee/tea and wine, but you cannot cook or meal prep here, and there isn't a grill. Plan to eat out for most/all meals, which is somewhat of a challenge due to fluctuating closures and restrictions. Wifi is offered, but it is a personal hotspot device that has limited monthly usage and will throttle down when it reaches its threshold. Also isn't strong enough to reach both work spaces. This was a "pro" for us as we wanted to unplug - but for remote workers reliant on video chat - this may be an issue.
Unique and fun place to stay! My husband and I stayed here for a weekend in Fredericksburg. Very comfortable and plenty of room for two people. Close to downtown - great location.
Would definitely recommend as a fun alternative to a run of the mill hotel!

Once in a lifetime experience
What a nolgastic place to stay at! So much history inside the train. Truly enjoyed reading the book “Theodore Roosevelt’s Letters to His Children”! Located walking distance to all the shops on Main Street. Couldn’t have picked a better place stay at for our 15th wedding anniversary.

Unique accomodation in a great location!
Wish we could have stayed longer in this nicely decorated rail car. Within a few minutes walk of restaurants and the main street shopping area, it couldnt be more convenient. We'll stay here again!

Cool factor was off the charts
I reserved this for a surprise weekend for my fiancé. I wouldn't tell her where we were staying despite her asking many times. Then when we drove up she had this strange look on her face like "We are staying on a train?" We then walked in and she just couldn't stop saying how cool this was. It was a very unique experience.
We entered the room to a personal welcome from the owner along with a gift.
There was so much history and nostalgia in the car you could spend a great deal of time just looking at the artifacts as if you were in a museum. It was like sleeping in a museum.
The queen bed was very comfortable.
The butler's kitchen was just right for mixing drinks, making coffee, etc.
This was a very unique and interesting place to stay and I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for something outside the norm. It is an experience we will remember forever.
One note is this property is not handicap-accessible and I would not recommend for such.

Hospitality and history close to everything!
Really a lovely little place to stay if you're wanting to experience some rich Texas history, with the added benefit of being close to Main Street and many other cool places in Fredericksburg. We loved learning the long, interesting history of the Pullman car. Also loved the many amenities and treats from the host. The only thing missing was the swaying of the car back and forth on the tracks!
