Filthy, Unsanitary, and Poor Host Ethics
I booked this unit because I had to evacuate my home due to an incoming hurricane. When I checked in the unit was not cleaned from the previous people who stayed: dirty mildewed bedding wadded up on the couch and bed, and wet musty towels on the floor. Kitchen was not cleaned and had the previous renters food on the counter. I attempted to contact the host through emergency numbers provided, email, and VRBO attempted to contact them multiple times as well. Due to the incoming hurricane and the fact that we couldn’t get in touch with the host after a couple of hours (and hotels filling up quickly) we had to make the hard decision to book a hotel so we had a sanitary place to ride out the hurricane. After a couple hours when I was already in the hotel the host reached out to me and first tried to argue with me that the unit was clean. After I sent proof via multiple photos, she tried to get me to return to the unit and said someone would come to clean it. At that point I was as already in a new location, and could not return. The host has since refused multiple times to refund my money even though I did not stay there. The right thing to do, especially in a natural disaster, would have been to cancel my reservation and refund the money I paid for the rental; it is not my fault they initially provided an unclean and unhygienic place and did not respond which forced me to find other accommodations. Beware when booking this unit and/or host!
