About this property

Riverfront Cabin Hideaway-Caddo Gap

Enjoy a secluded Cabin In The Woods experience on the South Fork of the Caddo River. This 80+ acre property is yours to explore and features an outdoor bath house and kayaks! The property extends on both sides of the river with 1/3 mile of private river frontage on both sides. Enjoy swimming, kayaking, sunbathing, fishing & comfort. Your nearest neighbor is over 1/2 mile away so you can enjoy perfect seclusion with your family or friends! (This cabin is listed separately on VRBO for couples only at a lower rate, but only one group is ever allowed at a time so you will enjoy the whole property to yourselves.)

The secluded 1100 sq-ft, 1.5 story "cabin in the woods" sits high above the S. Fork Caddo River and is surrounded by pine and hardwood, with beautiful views of the river, trees, and surrounding Ouachita mountains. An amazing deck sits amongst the trees and leads all the way down to the river's edge (118 steps). At the river, the property extends across both sides of the river - up and down stream. The wrap around deck at the cabin has outdoor seating, a picnic table, grill (propane tank included), and views at every level. Inside, a comfortable living area flows into a fully equipped kitchen, down the hall to a private bedroom, and upstairs to a large loft bedroom. The single bathroom is small, clean, and simple with a full-sized tub and shower. The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed, twin bed, and extra twin mattress. Upstairs, the loft has a queen bed, full bed, and twin bed.

The outdoor bath house is hidden below the deck with open views of the trees and river. Enjoy a full-sized antique tub, and large shower. We know bathing outdoors may seem weird at first, but you will love it! Many of our guests say that they never want to bathe indoors again!

Pets are not allowed inside. Outside pets will be considered, but please check with us first. Due to demand, a 3-day minimum stay is required most of the year (4-nights in the summer). Most guests say that 3-4 days isn't enough!

Outdoor security cameras are used but can be turned off (if not already off). One points at the driveway area and the other points at the river from the porch.

Discounts may be available for our younger, just getting started guests, or for couples (since couples don't require as much cleaning as families). Check us out on Instagram or Facebook for more info. Thunder Mountain Cabin

Wonderful place to relax

This is a beautiful property well removed from civilization. We spent the whole weekend relaxing in the shade or on inner tubes in the river and even caught a fish or two. The night sky is a treat here and the dock is a great place to view it. We also really enjoyed the outdoor shower/bath - a great place to enjoy a little wine and listen to the forest. Highly recommend!

Beautiful!

We had a wonderful trip to Arkansas. The cabin worked beautifully for our family of 5. The waterfront area was amazing and we enjoyed exploring. The cabin had everything we needed to grill, cook, relax, and have a perfectly low-key Easter weekend.

A beautiful getaway

We had a wonderful time at the cabin. Everything you need is there for you to use from cooking and grilling supplies to kayaks, tubes and a paddle boat. We didn't see a single person the whole time we were exploring the property. We are so grateful this family has this cozy cabin for folks to use. We will be back for sure!

Way off the beaten path

My girlfriend and I had a great time at the cabin. Took the paddle boat out for a spin. We didn't take full advantage of the hiking (except up and down the stairs in the back, whooo). We really liked the way the cabin was set up and used the grill quite a bit. The view from the back porch is awesome! Saw quite a bit of wild life including what I'm pretty sure was a cotton mouth swimming around on the river. The bed upstairs was super comfortable and we slept like logs. Didn't manage to find the time to break out the fishing poles (we brought our own not realizing the cabin was stocked with poles and various lures and accoutrements). The "driveway" was more than expected (quite steep) but we managed it in a mazdaspeed 3. I definitely recommend the cabin, it has cool vibe to it.

We abslouley loved how secluded and private it was!

Upon our arrival we were very excited how secluded and beautiful the property is! The cabin was very clean and inviting! We very much appreciated the washer and dryer! The cabin provided everything you need for a great weekend! We quickly unpacked and went down to enjoy the river! The water was clear and felt great. We kayaked and fished the first day! I love how the kayaks were provided for our use! We enjoyed them greatly! We really enjoyed sitting out on the deck in the mornings just looking at the scenery! The next 2 days we floated the river! Overall we had a great weekend! We will definitely be back since it is just a short 3 hour drive from our house!

Peaceful retreat

Great cabin in lovely, peaceful location with beautiful views. Cabin is clean and well equipped with everything you could need...the outdoor bathroom is a fun touch! Lots of steps down to the river which may not be easy or practical for elderly or babies/toddlers. River is clear and current is just right for using kayaks and/or paddle boat. Loved roasting hot dogs and making s'mores around the campfire. The owners are very helpful and flexible. Lake Ouachita is about a 30 minute drive away...we rented a boat there for the day, which was the perfect excursion from the cabin. We had a great time here for a long weekend getaway.

A little piece of Heaven

Thunder Mtn. Cabin was everything it's pictures depict and more. The bathhouse was AMAZING. The river was endless fun from kayaking to fishing right there at the doc. There were tons of shoals close by on both ends of the property to enjoy. There was nothing we needed or wanted that the cabin didn't have, plus it included special things like an old bottle root beer machine, porch swings and shuffleboard in the loft bedroom! We've stayed in many cabins and this was the best one yet. It was THE perfect place to explore and truly enjoy nature even in the July heat. We could've stayed FOREVER. Spectacular views from a wonderfully secluded cabin!

This cabin and scenery are spectacular! So glad we found this place. Being from a noisy city, the sound of water and birds were so relaxing. The water is a beautiful green and there's only the beauty of nature within sight of the back porch swings. It was a much needed get away and the seclusion and atmosphere were the perfect combo for our family. We kayaked for a couple of hours, hiked, waded on the shoals nearby, and had s'mores by the campfire. While sitting by the campfire and enjoying the view of the stars (especially the many you can't see from the city), we heard "Indian" drums in the distance. The kids loved the shuffleboard in the loft and exploring the area. Everything you need to cook your meals is there and the washer/dryer was a real bonus. I can't recommend this rental enough! Todd was very accommodating and allowed us to stay as long as we liked on our checkout day. Loved meeting the caretaker also. This was a perfect vacation at a perfect location!!

Wonderful Cabin in the woods

My husband and I had a wonderful quiet, relaxing stay in this cabin. We enjoyed all of the outdoor spaces for relaxing, cooking...and bathing! We would laughingly refer to the steps up from the river as the Stair Master! We packed everything we needed in, so we never left the cabin to explore the surrounding area. Thankfully there was no rain, and we were able to make it up the last hill to the cabin in our car without any difficulty. Thanks for sharing your little piece of heaven on Earth.

Great place to stay. We will be back

Very clean, quiet and best of all out in the woods. It's close to Glenwood and not far from the sweet surrender crystal mine. It was a great stay and will return. The only negative is the sulfur smell in the water.

Awesome!

Great cabin in the woods-lots of thought put into hammocks, hanging swings and access to nature. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had everything we needed: comfy beds, fully outfitted kitchen, kayaks and beautiful scenery! Thank you!

Secluded, Peaceful, Beautiful

We had a wonderful stay at this comfortable cabin on the river. We were there five days and didn't see a single person our whole stay. Todd was friendly and helpful as we planned our stay, and then left us alone as promised while we were there. He allowed us to stay as long as we wanted on the checkout day since we didn't want to leave. Hot Springs, diamond and crystal hunting, waterfalls, and hiking are all within an hour or less, but we ended up just staying at the cabin, paddling around in the river, and enjoying the views and trees from the deck. The nearest town with services is about 15 minutes away, but isolation is what we were looking for. We plan to return again as soon as possible!

About the host

Hosted by Todd

Host profile image
We are a family of four who love the outdoors. Todd and Elaine work as Geoscientists. Although we love people, we also enjoy staying in places where you are more likely to meet a curious squirrel or a rogue goat than another human. So our cabin in Caddo Gap is a place we love to spend as much time at as we can.

Why they chose this property

No nearby neighbors! The cabin-in-the-woods is a place to get away from it all - including away from other people! The undeveloped river, seclusion, and access to some of Arkansas' beautiful state parks and Hot Springs is tough to find. We sometimes enjoy spending a full week at the cabin and river - never leaving the property! On other trips, we visit Little Missouri Falls, Lake Catherine State Park waterfall, Petit Jean State Park waterfall, or crystal and diamond hunting.

What makes this property unique

This cabin is truly hidden in the woods. Even most of the locals don't know it is there. Swim, play, relax in the hammocks, watch birds, kayak, or just listen to the quiet nature around you. There are no other homes or cabins on the 80+ acre property so you are unlikely to see anyone else unless you invite them yourself. Wake up with coffee on the back porch overlooking the river valley. Bathe in the outdoor bathhouse. Enjoy a campfire with friends as you watch the fireflies. Watch the fall colors in October and November, or the spring bloom in April and May. Relax and float in the swimming hole of the S.Fork Caddo River right at the base of the deck steps. Life is good at the cabin!
