Grandma's Cottage - Blind Sodus Bay, Fair Haven, NY

This cozy waterfront cottage is furnished with all the basic necessities including towels, bedding and kitchen utensils. The yard has a nice mix of sun & shade overlooking the water. Picnic table, outdoor chairs, fire pit & gas grill are provided. A large floating dock adds another dimension to the space. (A variety of fish have been hooked out there.) It is located on a one lane, private road, that extends to the Blind Sodus Bay peninsula. You will be surrounded by water and wildlife. It’s not uncommon to see bald eagles, herons, beavers, mink, ducks, geese and more. The neighborhood is peaceful and relaxing. PARKING onsite for 2 vehicles with additional parking space available nearby.
Grandma's Cottage is located amongst other seasonal cottages on a 10' right-of-way access road. This road runs along a peninsula that juts out into Blind Sodus Bay. From the back of the cottage your view will be Blind Sodus Creek and the natural wildlife. This creek feeds into Blind Sodus Bay. Across the road from the cottage is Blind Sodus Bay. The neighborhood is quiet but friendly (holiday weekends can be noisy with fireworks). You will be minutes from the Village of Fair Haven and West Side Barrier Pier & Park. Fair Haven State Park/Beach is only 10 minutes away. It is 15 minutes to the Sterling Renaissance Festival. Chimney Bluffs State Park is 20 minutes away. A 10-minute ride will take you to The Sterling Nature Center which has several nice walking trails & lots of wildlife viewing. Colloca Estate Winery is 1 mile away offering, wine tastings, tours, light meals, live music regularly and much more (www.collocawines.com). There are several Charter Boat operators on our neighboring Little Sodus Bay for the fishing enthusiast. The village of Fair Haven has a variety of shops offering everything from fine art & jewelry to tie dye t-shirts. Dining options range from coffee shops to diners to pub/restaurants. The July 4th Independence Day celebration brings the quaint village of Fair Haven to life with street vendors, craft fairs and carnival with live music.

Charming cabin

Charming little cabin to enjoy relaxing and fishing. For a great sandy beach and swimming we went to the local park. It was lovely!

Took my son for his birthday! He enjoys fishing and loves campfires. Skippy rocks at the beach,Fair Haven State Park.. So quiet and peaceful. Cottage was well cleaned and very accommodating. Thank you

Great place to stay with kids!

It was a clean nice cozy place to stay! Everything you need is there for you, or you can get within 5 miles of the house. Within minutes of being there, my son caught his first fish. The area is private, but I did feel like my fire was going into the neighbor's trailer. My sons had a great time of fishing the area for 3 days and there is a state park really close that is beautiful. Whether you stay on the property or explore you will have a relaxed enjoyable time.

The beds were comfortable, the heat was warm, everything worked and was as described in the listing. Grandma’s cottage was a great little place to rest after being on a fishing charter all day.

Grandmas Cottage is perfect!

Perfect Cozy Cottage with a friendly warm feel! We really enjoyed watching the wildlife on the water straight out the kitchen table. The sitting area was great by the water. The beds were comfy!

Very Comfortable

Grandma's Cottage is calming, relaxing, cozy. Just a perfectly nice place to unwind. The kitchen was well stocked with staples and the beds are comfortable. We saw butterflies and eagles, swans and kingfishers. We love the area and the natives are friendly. Try it!

Awesome

This was the best cabin not only in ammenities but the location is just beautiful. Everyday we were visited by swans and got to habe morning coffee on the dock at the lakeside. We left early only because of the weather . I would tecomend this to anyone wanting a laleside stat

It was as expected

The cabin was old but we expected that from the listing info. There was no access to the bay as that area of shared access was completely torn up and unusable (no fault of the cabin owner). Otherwise it met our desire to get away near water with our dog for a few days.

Our stay at Grandma’s Cottage.

The cottage is exactly what I expected, it reminded me of all the great times spent at my Grandparents cottage in the finger lakes. It’s an older building, but well kept, clean and comfortable. Everything you need is there and there is ample room for a small family. You are very close to your neighbors and there was very little space to park more than one vehicle. It was close to Fair Haven and Shady Shores which both have access to Lake Ontario. It’s a beautiful area. We had problems with the wi-fi from the start and it didn’t work at all for most of our stay, but no real problem if you can do without it. The owners are close and we’re friendly and Although we had no problems, I feel that they would be readily available. Overall I enjoyed our stay and would return if I get the chance.

Scammed

Cleaned cottage thoroughly before check out. Upon arriving home I received a message from property owner they were keeping 40 dollars of my security deposit due to some missing towels, a washcloth, and stated a cutting board was melted. The towels did get mixed in with my personal ones. We never saw a cutting board,as all the food was prepped ahead of time and we did all cooking outside. I touched base with the property owner to ask how much the security deposit was since I wasn't aware there was one to see if I could get a partial return. The property owner didn't respond. The most concerning thing is I stayed two years ago and didn't realize I was paying a security deposit and didn't receive a credit after checkout. Very sketchy. Will not be returning.

Musty smell : (

The location is great. The cottage was clean. Finding the place was easy. Check in simple BUT the cottage had an unpleasant musty smell. It had a significant negative impact on our stay. We actually left at the end of our second day. We had planned on leaving in the morning but left in the evening to avoid another night of uncomfortable sleep due to the odor. I am glad we brought our own camp chairs. The ones at the cottage either had no cushions or were dirty plastic ones stacked by the cottage. We used the gas grill it would have been nice if the grill wasn’t dirty and rusty. The location is amazing and we did enjoy spending our time outside but too many drawbacks for us to consider staying again

Grandma’s cottage has been in our family for 60+ years. This place is truly an old family cottage. It has been modernized over the years with hot & cold running water, a shower & propane heat. Things it did not have when I stayed there as a child. It was always furnished/decorated with mismatched items handed down from family & friends. That was ok with Grandma. “It’s just a cottage”. That decorating style has carried on throughout the years giving the cottage an eclectic charm.

Why they chose this property

We love our little cottage and the surrounding area. We have chosen to share it as a way to keep it in the family for generations to come. It is maintained and furnished as an owner occupied cottage which will make you feel like an invited guest while our family is away. We hope you enjoy it as much as we have.
