About this property

2BR Renovated Craftsman in Historic Sellwood Neighborhood

1913 beautifully renovated craftsman in historic Sellwood neighborhood, very close to downtown. 100 yards from Sellwood park and a short walk to many restaurants, coffee shops, grocery stores, trails, and public transport (bus and train). Open floor plan, comfortable furniture, sunroom with views of japanese garden, private patio in back, and front porch with swing. This home is very cozy and just an excellent location from which to explore Portland. The Willamette river and beautiful Sellwood park with public pool are a very short walk. Public golf course in the neighborhood. Master bedroom suite upstairs is the only bedroom upstairs and has a king bed and full bathroom with shower. The other bedroom with full-size bed is located on the main floor next to a full bathroom with tub. There is also a futon upstairs. There is a gym in the basement with an elliptical machine, stationary bike and cable TV. The basement also has a lovely wine cellar. We have an indoor/outdoor cat but she is not allowed upstairs and we take her with us when we leave. The patio in the back has a table and four chairs and includes a grill and water feature with water fall as part of a Japanese garden.

Cozy craftsman in great neighborhood

We stayed for a week while my teenager attended camp nearby. What a great location! Walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops, and cute antique shops. The house is very charming with a great front porch swing.

Excellent family house

We stayed for half a week at this location, a beautiful family house occupied by the owners, who even gave us a tour when we checked in and were available by text and phone as well as email promptly answering all of our questions. It is a very spacious house in a beautiful neighborhood next to a large park. The property is great for families. We would stay here again for sure. Thank you for having us.

My stay in Sellwood Oregon home

This is the second time we have stayed at this home. We love the large rooms with an abundance of natural light. It is wonderful for multi - generational families because it was remarkably sound proof The well landscaped backyard with water feature was very soothing. The neighborhood was well maintained and beautiful. The large front porch with swing was where our family hung out every evening. I highly recommend this house for your next Sellwood-Portland visit.

Beautifully restored heritage home

This house is indeed a beautifully restored heritage home. Breakfast on the veranda was marvelous. It is a quiet neighborhood with easy access to shops and restaurants and Sellwood Park. Unfortunately we had some concerns with cleanliness. The owner, John, gave us a helpful tour of the house and he communicated quickly If I had a question. Respectfully yours Andrea and family

Great Home and Neighborhood

We were visiting our son for a long 4 day weekend and our group included my wife, our 18 and 19 year old daughters. The owners could not have been more friendly and communicative (answered every question promptly). A wonderful neighborhood with local stores, coffee and restaurants. Everyone had a comfortable bed and the top floor master’s A/C worked great which is not always a given in an older home. The home is convenient to downtown and we also had road trips to the ocean and Mt Hood. Competitively priced and lots of room. We very much enjoyed our stay.

Large Beautiful Older Home In a Wonderful Neighbor

First off, the house instructions were written by hand on notebook paper. We loved that and found it very personal and charming. That set the tone for our Week. The house is much much larger than the photo's indicate. We were a party of 5 staying over and my son would join us for movie night and meals. This older home gives you the option of hanging' with the group in the large common areas or catching some quite time in the sunroom or on the large front porch, or even in the Japanese garden outback. This home is very clean...but not sterile. A nice little family live in this home when they are not sharing it with others, so there are a few delightfully chipped dishes and I suppose that if you reach way back in the cupboard, you may find a clean but dusty glass. So much better than a hotel experience. You are close to everything! We walked to local shops and restaurants. There is large park around the corner with a few river beaches. The neighbors walk by with there dogs and stop to chat..Wonderful! I highly recommend this Beautiful old Gal....

Can't say enough about the home and hosts! Amazing.

We took a guys trip down for a brewery tour, and their house was perfect for us. Plenty of sleeping arrangement options, GREAT updates to an older house, and has a very cozy feel. The piano and pond were my highlights! Even ended up meeting John and his wonderful family upon our departure! If the area fits your needs like it did ours, I recommend this home to anyone! Thanks again guys!

I loved it, but..........

Ok, so I absolutely loved it & the owners, BUT.... [I hate to leave this review but as I personally saw that corrections were made from the previous review... it needs to be done, plus once corrected it will show how great the owners are!] I DO RECOMMEND staying at this wonderful house! I believe the next visitor can post a review stating that MY issues were not THEIRS. Just like the previous issues were not ours. I know with everything there is a learning curve, so don't let this review stop you!!!! It's a beautiful, upgraded, 100+ year old house with gorgeous wood floors, nice relaxing back yard with a short walk to Sellwood Park (3 houses down), & lots of shopping, restaurants, plus a cute little movie theater. It is truly an amazing area with kids playing everywhere. Definitely a family neighborhood. ***I think my favorite thing about the house was that every room was a different vibrant color! ***Favorite thing about the neighborhood were the signs that most of the houses had in their yards. 'In Our America' which is about how All people are equal, black lives, love wins, women, immigrants/refugees, disabled, diversity & the planet! Very welcoming & loving sign! Now for the [correctable] 'issues' I had... *** The floors... no shoes in the house, so I felt every piece of dirt and could not find a broom or a vacuum. *** The dishes... every dish (no exaggeration) plus the pots & pans were filthy! There was no way I would/could let my family eat or drink off of any dish until I washed them. That I couldn't understand at all! *** The windows... screens would've been wonderful! The room that looks out to the backyard has so many windows but NO screens! ????? What an amazing breeze you could get if you could open all the windows. [No screens = flies & moths, which we had some] I was really wanting to open those windows but couldn't. Especially the upstairs windows to let out the hot air that accumulated there. As I said before ~ the owners were AMAZING & the house was AWESOME. Only a few minor things that are easily correctable! I am sorry to post this, but since I don't know you personally ~ to keep you honest about the corrections, posting is the best way. With the corrections, you will be one of the best rentals on here!

Nice house, but not clean.

Great location and nice home, but owners need to put more effort into the rental. Towels and sheets were clean but we'll used. Soap was used and had hair on it. Kitchen and glasses needed to be cleaned.

Great stay in Sellwood

The house was perfect for my family trip to Portland! It fit my family with the added benefit of being right next to a park which was great for my son to burn off some energy after the flight. Sellwood is a fantastic neighborhood with lots of cool shops and cafes, just around the corner from the house!

We enjoyed our stay

We enjoyed our 4 night stay in this very nicely completely renovated home in the Sellwood. It is a nice walk to the old town area of this historic community, and to a park nearby. This home is the personal residence of the owners. Therefore everything we needed was there, as we did some of our meals there. Being senior citizens, we did find going upstairs to the master suite a little challenging, but very manageable, as the stairwell is narrower and steeper than new construction. The heated floor in the master bath was very nice. Take your slippers as all the floors are wood, and the owners park their shoes at the door. We did too! We will definitely rent the house again when the need arises.

Why they chose this property

Wonderful neighborhood where you can walk to many restaurants, shops, pubs, and easy access to Portland via bus, light rail, and bike trails. Our home is half a block from Sellwood Park and a 10 minute walk from the Willamette River and great hiking trails through a nature preserve with a lake (Oaks Bottom Wildlife Preserve). Downtown Portland is a 10 minute drive or 20 minute bike ride.
