About this property

Studio apartments with kitchenettes in the historic Appalachian Town

Stay with us overnight or for an extended visit. Whether you are on business or have chosen Hinton as your vacation hub, make our warm, bright, comfortably appointed studios and helpful staff are your home for the duration, long or short.

Our studios come with work areas and HS internet and are centrally located on the upper floor of a 1920’s Ford car dealership, soon to be our lobby, gallery and antique store, on Hinton’s rustic and once infamous 3rd. Avenue.

The saloons and brothels that at one time lined both sides of the street are gone but the notoriety lives on still in the minds of local gentry.

Hinton in it’s heyday was the hub of a booming railroad enterprise. It’s bricked streets and replica cast iron street lamps preserve a sense of history and energy – of prosperity and drive. It’s railroad heritage is celebrated in a two weekend festival held each fall at the height of the fall colors in mid-late October. An interesting mix indeed of the old south genteel hospitality, confederate rebellion, Yankee ingenuity, Appalachian traditions and crafts, poverty, wealth, thrift and unparalleled beauty. Experience the serenity of the unspoiled forests, hardwood covered mountains, majestic gorges and at the same time taste a cultural flavor like no other.

Our operation began March 2016 when our first newly renovated Studio was brought on-line. More units will be completed shortly. It’s run by two friendly guys, Terry McIntyre and Mark Shipowick. Our goal is to give you the most comfortable, enjoyable and rewarding stay possible.

Hinton is the county seat of Summers County The Studios are one block from the main street, two blocks from Hinton Railway Station where Amtrak stops twice daily, half a block from a spacious new fitness center located on the main floor of the new Technology Center, one block from the Chestnut Revival, a five star restaurant without the five star price, three blocks from a public pool and large water-slide and within two to five blocks of many other boutiques, museums, shops, banks, churches, attractions and services. For an up-to-date listing and description of the attractions and services of Hinton and its environs click on Explore Summer’s County hosted by the New River Gateway Convention Visitor’s Bureau. You may want to watch their enticing videos.

Hinton is situated at the confluence of three rivers, the Bluestone, the Greenbrier and the New Rivers and is at the head of the New River George a national treasure under the care of the US Parks Service. If you love nature, want a taste of real Appalachian culture, want a change of pace or just a comfortable bed, you'll find it here at an affordable price.

Sweet suite

Just finished our second stay here. This will be our go-to place whenever we come to Hinton. The owners are very nice and quick to answer any questions. Carl, the manager is sooo nice and helpful. The king bed is super comfortable. We didn’t use the queen bedroom but it looked nice and cozy. The kitchen has all you need, but with all the restaurants in the downtown area within walking distance we didn’t use much more than the coffee maker and microwave to warm up pre-made muffins for breakfast.

A super friendly place to stay close to lots of fun outdoor activites!

Both the owner and property manager were SUPER nice! Great communication, clean property, safe environment, and a quaint little town. Made to feel like a home away from home. Highly recommended and will stay again!

It was perfect

It was clean, and comfortable, and homey. The pictures of the suites don’t do them justice, and the written description leaves out many amenities, so we were pleasantly surprised. Plus if you stay here you get to talk with Carl, and Carl is pretty much the coolest thing in Hinton. And that’s saying something because downtown Hinton is pretty cool. We had a great time, I am already planning my return trip.

Great place to stay

This basic property has everything you need and more. The bed is super comfortable, the kitchen has coffee, filters and sugar and creamer. The water gets hot quickly and the shower is strong enough to rinse off the soap. The internet is plenty strong. Carl welcomed us and explained everything. He’s so nice. We plan to stay here on our next trip to Hinton.

Plesantly surprised

The location was extremely convenient for our needs and comfortable. The owners, Terry and Mark are fabulous, kind, caring, attentive, eager to accommodate and a wealth of information on area history, attractions, "must" see offerings and dining options. Without hesitation we would stay again because of Terry and Mark's many efforts to ensure a comfortable, safe and quiet "home away from home" stay. The bed and linens were of high quality and the bed was amazingly comfortable! The ONLY reason I did not give 5 stars, which I wrestled with, was because we needed additional lighting, counter space and seating. I generally cook when away from home and although the kitchen provided everything needed to prepare nutritious meals, the prep area was tiny. These are the kinds of things that are worked out as the guest/s make their needs known. I am confident that Mark and Terry would gladly provide what was needed to make any guests stay as comfortable as possible. We look forward to staying with them again and appreciate their efforts to re-vitalize the downtown area of Hinton, WV!

Lovely stay in a lovely town!

Staying at Terry's place in downtown Hinton was a great part of my vacation. The town has a wonderful history and I can't wait to spend more time there. Terry's place is perfect. It's clean, quiet and perfectly unexpected.
