Log Cabin with hot tub on bold creek

BEAT THE HEAT!!!
BOLD RUSHING CREEK
Relax in a swing or rocking chair on the COVERED PORCH overlooking a bold, rushing creek. On summer nights, watch the fireflies.
Be lulled to sleep by the sound of the creek, which can be seen and heard throughout the house-truly therapeutic for MELTING AWAY STRESS! Cabin is on a well-maintained mountain road in a mountain hollow at 3000 foot elevation. Beautiful mountain views surround you. Spectacular in the Fall when the LEAVES ARE CHANGING.

ANTIQUE LOG CABIN
Antique log cabin reconstructed to have all of the modern amenities, including a washer and dryer. It is tastefully and comfortably furnished in the Adirondack style with cathedral ceilings in the living room and downstairs bedroom. Wood floors are throughout the cabin. The living room has a beautiful wood burning STONE FIREPLACE and the kitchen area has a WOOD BURNING STOVE. The large kitchen is fully equipped with all cooking utensils and has a large farm table for family meals. A DECK on the front has a PICNIC TABLE that overlooks the creek and a GAS GRILL for enjoying outdoor meals. The second floor has a deck that looks out on a hardwood forest for stargazing or watching the moon rise over the mountain. The HOT TUB is on the deck. The master bedroom is on the second floor surrounded on 3 sides by windows that overlook the creek. A large covered porch runs the entire length of the front, OVERLOOKING THE CREEK which is in close proximity to the house

SLEEPS 8
Cabin is 2 story and has 2BR/2BA (one each upstairs and downstairs) and sleeps 8 comfortably in 4 separate sleeping areas. There are 3 double beds, and 2 twin beds. The downstairs bathroom has a RIVERROCK SHOWER. The upstairs bathroom has a FOOTED BATHTUB. All linens and towels are provided.

EASY ACCESS YEAR ROUND
The cabin is SECLUDED BUT NOT ISOLATED. Easy access year round via interstate and state highways. The mountain road leading to the cabin is 2 miles long, paved, and is well maintained by the state. Since the cabin is close to the creek, the access to the cabin is level and does not require 4 wheel drive to get there.

Love this place!

Our family has been returning to this cabin for almost 12 years now, since our kids were little. It's become such a special getaway, full of memories. We love the stream, the layout of the cabin, all the space and rooms, the unique furnishings. It's always kept nice and clean. It's a log cabin, so a couple of cobwebs are to be expected... its not a sign of neglect. We hope to keep coming back and making more memories!

By the creek

The family spent most of our time creek side, lounging on the porch, grilling on the deck, roasting marshmallows over the fire pit, playing in the creek with our kids and dogs, and playing cornhole. What an absolutely beautiful location for vacation!

A LITTLE SLICE OF HEAVEN

From the beautiful creek, to the manicured lawns, the rocking chairs on the porch, and the original period furniture in the cabin - this place does NOT disappoint. There seems to be plenty to do and see nearby, but it's hard to leave the property. It was a wonderful, peaceful vacation -even with my dog jumping in and out of the creek!

Perfect creekside home

I have 4 kids ranging from 3-16 yrs, and everyone wants to come back next year. The creek and the lawn area made it for us- we spent just as much time outside as in (we are talking mid-July too!). There are some quirks that are very common in any mountain home I’ve ever stayed in (most are on wells, most near water get a little slippery outside.

Wonderful creek location!

Beautiful location in a cabin with an amazing history! We loved the location, the creek, and the quaintness of the cabin. The one issue we found was the lack of cleanliness especially in the kitchen. The microwave was filthy so much so that we didn’t even use it. The inside of the cabinets were also dirty and needed organizing. We did enjoy our stay and are thankful that the owners spent so much time preserving the history of the property!

More than a cabin

This was a fantastic place to stay. I don’t believe that if you had a check off list to find your perfect rustic get away, that you could design a better place to relax at. The stream was awesome.

Grandma Camp

Beware the wooden grates on slippery floors in baths. Shower leaks, deck is slippery, too. Obviously needs maintenance..gas dryer vent clogged (fire hazard), lbrick around wood stove one of many places to stump your toe or bump into benches. Tipping bench, shabby chewed cshions.

Absolutely amazing!

Absolutely the best vacation cabin we’ve stayed in and will definitely be back. Off the beaten path but on a paved, easy navigating road. Cabin was exceptional and plenty cool during the days and warm during the night. Beautiful property with a very rustic feel, the stream out front made for some amazing relaxation and sleep. Hands down would recommend for anyone looking for an unplugged place to stay.

Wonderful location

The setting of the house could not be better. We felt we were in a country hallow with a stream flowing by and an abundance of wild flowers. Yet we were within an 30 minutes of the Parkway, gem mining and fruit picking. While there we saw bears, wood chucks and geese. This was our second visit and I am sure to be back.

It's like going home

Our family has enjoyed escaping to this beautiful cabin since our children were ages 2 and 7. Now they are 17 and 12 and we just returned from another wonderful 3 days. It has become a place of sweet memories for our family, and our children still love it. It may just be a place to bring our grandchildren one day!

Beautiful and peaceful

Loved staying at this cabin! Great history behind the cabin itself, very nicely done - rustic but up to date. Pet friendly but super clean and furnished very well. We had blast playing in the creek. Property is peaceful but not too isolated. Town has a cute business district and many hiking opportunities within a short drive. We (and our dogs) hope to come back again!

Great getvaway.

The cabin is in a nice location. The amiunt of dead beetles tho was overwheling. And they were all over the beds. The decor upstairs freaked us out some.so we all stayed in one room downstairs as we were too scared to sleep upstairs lol. Hot tub was nice. But we kept stumping out toe on the brick around the wood stove and inended up breaking a bine in my foot. The claw tub while pretty, took forever to fill up.

About the host

Hosted by John and Michele Harrell

Host profile image
Our log cabin is a labor of love. The original log cabin was first built in Southern Georgia in 1865 by a woman and her slave for the husband coming home from the Civil war. We purchased it from the landowners who wanted to tear it down. We painstakingly disassembled it (numbering every log-you can still see these tags today) and stored it in a relative's barn in Georgia until we found the perfect location for it on a mountain creek in North Carolina. We had eyed this property for many years as we visited a friend who had a cabin on the mountain. The property (and surrounding 30 acres) had been owned by one family for over 40 years and happened to go for sale at auction. It was bought by our friend's uncle and subdivided into 8 home-sites. We had our pick of our favorite location close to the stream which was also the site of the original homestead on the property. We reassembled the cabin as close to the creek as possible (it was the original dogtrot design made entirely of heart pine), added an 8 foot wide covered porch to the entire front of the cabin (to get the most enjoyment out of the stream) and added a bathroom, kitchen and sitting area to the back. we have added a second story with a master suite and additional bathroom.
As native Floridians, we have always wanted a place to escape the heat in the summer and enjoy the change of seasons the rest of the year. North Carolina is perfect for both of these.

Why they chose this property

We have visited the Sylva area for 40+ years and feel like it is our second home. We plan to retire there for part of the year so we have furnished the cabin with all of the comforts we would want to have.

What makes this property unique

There is nowhere we would rather be than sitting in the swing overlooking the creek in the summer or in front of the stone fireplace in cold weather. It is truly one of the most relaxing places you'll ever be. The scenery is constantly changing depending upon the season and the time of day. The creek can be seen and heard from most rooms of the house. The new Master bedroom has views on three sides from the bed.
