About this property

Sanctuary in the City | Hera House

OUTSTANDING FEATURES :: Originally built as a boarding house in 1925, Hera House has the ambiance of a European B&B. This upstairs 2-room suite (bedroom & sitting room/workstation) has a private entry and is one block from popular Lower Greenville Avenue. Especially recommended for guests who want a peaceful sanctuary with many walkable amenities. LGBT friendly.

STYLE :: Hera House is a hybrid of vintage and modern styling with a touch of designer funk.

2-ROOM SUITE :: Bedroom has a brand new solid mahogany queen-size platform bed with new foam mattress and low-allergen pillows (no down feathers, no synthetics). Living room/work station has comfy chairs, table, desk. Both rooms are sunlit and have plentiful windows that open. Private bath. Small fridge, microwave, coffee pot, electric kettle and WiFi.

ALLERGY-FREE AMENITIES :: This house is great for people with allergies: wood floors, low VOC paint, scent-free cleaning products, 100% cotton linens, no pets.

Hera House is a house that breathes: rooms open off a main stairway with a ceiling fan. No central air, no dust-catching air ducts. Each room has its own A.C. (so you control the temperature).

We make a sincere effort to maintain a dust-free space, so same-day reservations aren't always possible. Of course, if this amenity isn't important to you, we will always consider requests for last-minute reservations.

INTERACTION WITH GUESTS :: We live downstairs in an area that is entirely separate from the guest quarters. Since we often work from home, we are accessible in person as well as by phone. If you need ideas for where to go or what to do in Dallas, we can help. We'd like you to feel that, if you need it, you have a friend in Dallas.

GUEST ACCESS :: Upstairs is your dedicated space and you have your own door with electronic keypad lock.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD :: Hera House is located on a quiet side street within 1.5 blocks’ access of the popular urban Dallas community known as Lower Greenville Avenue: cafés, coffee shop, restaurants, diner, bars, Trader Joe’s, yoga studios and public transit. Vegetarian, Vegan and Paleo options are within a 2-block walk.

Hera House is centrally located, 2.5 miles from downtown and minutes away from freeways & public transit headed in all directions. Southern Methodist University is 3.4 miles away.

GETTING AROUND :: Public transit is less than a block away and it will bring you to our light rail mass transit, DART – which is less than one mile away. DART will deliver you to extensive areas of the city, including DFW airport. The neighborhood is very walkable. Two and a half miles to the east is our town lake, White Rock Lake, which has eleven miles of bike and walk paths . Also nearby is Katy Trail, a 3.5 mile long walking trail.

ABOUT PARKING :: Parking on the street is usually open during the day, but gets competitive in the evenings and on weekends. It's a Resident Only Parking district Wednesday thru Saturday, so a parking tag is needed. We keep one on hand for guests that we will loan to you while you're staying with us.

HOUSE RULES :: To maintain our mellow atmosphere, we'd like to ask that you refrain from: smoking / bringing pets / having parties / burning candles or incense/moving furniture/tap dancing

Because Hera House is an environment suitable for people with allergies, we request that you not use aerosol sprays or strongly scented products. (We might use a few drops of essential oil as an air freshener unless you ask us not to).

SIDELINE OPTIONS :: Ask about some of the sideline options for entertainment and self-care that we can arrange for you right here at Hera House.

AVAILABILITY :: On Fridays and Saturdays the minimum stay is 2 nights.

Artist Retreat

Dia was a fabulous host who greeted me in person even though my arrival time was late at night. I loved getting to know her and felt very comfortable and at-ease throughout my stay. I will be returning to this special spot nestled in a bustling, cute neighborhood.

Hera House Stay

Dia was a wonderful host. It was warm in Dallas while we were there, & the A/C unit kept us cool & comfy. The water & Coke Zero were a nice bonus. We had the upstairs to ourselves. Thanks for your hospitality Dia.

So Cozy

The owner was so accommodating and truly cared if I was comfortable and if I needed anything. The home was so charming and great places to eat were easy to walk to and to enjoy the lower Greenville area. I would stay here again, for sure! Thank you for your hospitality!

An experience of history in the midst of Greenville

I am sick of staying in generic hotels. The Hera House was built in the 1920s and the owner (who lives downstairs with a separate entrance) is a 3rd generation owner! We enjoyed the entire upstairs, a master and a smaller sitting room. All hardwood floors, huge trees, unbelievable convenience to the best bars, restaurants, walking, and yoga. There is only a mini fridge and microwave but who wants to cook with so many restaurants at hand? Wi-fi included.

Charming Unit in Vibrant Neighborhood

There owner was very kind and there was total privacy on the second floor of the home. I appreciated the second sitting room which I used as an office space. I loved the location too, I was able to walk to fitness classes and lunch spots. I would highly recommend this place for an individual or couple looking to stay in a unique neighborhood in Dallas.

An unexpectedly perfect gem with relaxed vibes.

Dia was the perfect host with the most perfect gem of a house that is right off the Lower Greenville area of Dallas. It truly is a "Sanctuary in the City", and I will be staying here when visiting from now on. After experiencing issues with the hotel room I had booked for a conference downtown (hotel overbooked with no other available rooms within a 20-30min drive), I hurriedly emailed Dia at 7:30am the day I arrived in town. She responded within an hour, saved me from being homeless, and Lower Greenville offered a MUCH better experience than what my colleagues had. The restaurants, bars, yoga studio and shops were within one-minute walking distance from her abode, and I felt very safe, comfortable, and even up for some exploration! Dia had told me to walk over to Steel City Pops for a light treat/snack, and I was thrilled to discover their popsicles are UNBELIEVABLY GOOD! On top of the fact that she's purely rad, the house and Dia are (like me) environmentally-friendly; I LOVED the fact that the house is low-allergen, has no conventional cleaning product smells, and has wood floors. The best part is that the windows can be opened for fresh air, which added a refreshing (and fun!) element to my morning showers. I also loved having my sink in my room where everything was easily accessible and I felt like I had more privacy to get ready in the evenings/mornings. The house has a European flare with the shower room and toilet room being separate. I, personally, prefer this as it is much more hygienic. I appreciated the easy WIFI connection instructions Dia provides in the rental room. She went above-and-beyond the normal requirements of a host and is an honest, trustworthy, reliable, and just simply pleasant to be around. I would, unhesitatingly, recommend others to enjoy a beautifully relaxing experience at Hera House and will be staying here again in the future!

Charming, historical, and cozy home in wonderful walkable lower Greenville.

Dia was a friendly and generous host. The area offered lots to do. Nice boutiques, restaurants, bars and shopping all within walking distance. Had a blast over the 4th of July. Thanks for a great stay!

About the host

Your host

Host profile image
Your host :: is a native of Dallas / enjoys the many cultural offerings of the city / is a meditation enthusiast / likes a good party as much as a silent retreat / loves nature and the beautiful skies of Texas / works as a graphic designer & college professor / enjoys meeting people from all over the world / takes pleasure in offering guests a refuge from busy city life

Why they chose this property

Hera House was built in 1925 as a boarding house. Your host is the 3rd generation to live in it and open its doors to sharing with guests. Updated enough for the comfort of modern living but not enough to obscure its original sensibility as an older house of integrity and charm. The owner is also a designer, so Hera House has a unique hybrid of vintage and modern styling with a touch of designer funk.

What makes this property unique

Visitors often comment on the calming atmosphere of Hera House and speculate on what can only be described as "friendly spirits."
