About this property

The Great Bear Lodge: Hot Tub, Firepit, EV Charger, Dog Allowed!

Welcome to The Great Bear Lodge! This cozy cabin is located just 5 miles away from historic Valle Crucis, the home of the Mast General Store, this home is close to many mountain adventures and wonderful local shopping, restaurants, the Boone Golf Course, Tweetsie Railroad Amusement Park, High Gravity Adventures Zipline and Aerial Park, and Appalachian Ski Mountain.

Experience mountain elegance at its finest. Enjoy the main living space with leather furniture around the large flat-screen TV and a gas log fireplace. The dining area and kitchen have everything needed for a mountain getaway. The gracious outdoor living space includes a covered deck with a Primo gas grill and smoker, patio table, picnic table, and propane-powered heater for those chilly mountain evenings.

Spread out in the downstairs recreation room and enjoy the TV, foosball, shuffleboard, and a wet bar with mini-fridge and microwave. Outside on the lower level, enjoy the hot tub on a covered patio with the fire pit (owners provide free firewood) overlooking the mountain view.

Time for bed? The Great Bear Lodge offers three wonderful sleeping spaces, one on each level. There is a King suite in the semi-enclosed loft with a private bathroom with shower, a queen bedroom on the main level with a hall bath with tub/shower, and a bunk room on the lower level with a twin-over-full bunk and a twin trundle and a third bath down the hall with tub/shower. The lower-level family room sofa also converts into a queen sleeper for a bonus sleeping area.

All five TVs in the home are Smart TVs. Enjoy 150mbps Wi-Fi, and guests with electric vehicles can utilize a Level 1 EV charging station at the parking area. The paved parking area comfortably accommodates three cars, and access from the parking level to the main level entrance is by a staircase from the parking area.

Important Notes:
- Pet Rent: $25/nt plus tax. Only one (1) mature, well-trained dog will be allowed. Please do not request an exception.
-The owner of this home uses exterior security cameras to montor the home and ensure it remains safe when unoccupied. One camera overlooks the driveway, one overlooks the front porch, and one overlooks the side yard. No cameras are aimed at doors, windows, the hot tub, or the firepit and there are no interior security cameras.
- Firewood for the outside firepit may be purchased at the time of booking or with a week's notice. You receive two wrapped, kiln-dried bundles and a fire starter for $25 plus tax per night.
- It is plowed in winter, but 4WD or AWD vehicles are required November-March, and chains may also be necessary to access all properties in winter months. We are happy to help you find the home with the access you are most comfortable with, any time of year!
- All BRMR homes offer well stocked kitchens with all utensils needed to cook meals. There is also a "starter set" of paper products at the house: a roll of toilet paper per bath, several garbage bags, a small vial of dishwashing liquid, a few tablets of dishwasher detergent, some laundry pods, a roll of paper towels, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and some makeup remover cloths. There are enough of these items for one night, or maybe two. We do not provide hair dryers. Towels and linens will be provided.

Disappointed with property management

We were disappointed that the cabin did not seem to be properly prepared for visitors. The internet was out the entire time of our stay and we could not get the hot tub to warm up. There was no guide book for the cabin to help us. Additionally an overhead light was out and a carbon monoxide filter was flashing red needing replacement. There was a significant amount of trash placed improperly in a recycling bin and swimming trunks left over from the previous guests. We had a very rainy weekend trip with small children so not having the internet and hot tub working were a big frustration. We understand that these cabins are small family business and we were polite and understanding when we reached out for assistance to the property management. We received apologies and the promise that these items would be added to the task list but nothing ever happened. Eventually we received a phone call and I spoke with a property manager who was very nice but did not take any action. To be clear, we understand that things happen. Our disappointment stems from the fact that the property management continued to apologize and promise that future guests would not experience these problems but did not do anything to either fix the issues or to make it right with us despite the considerable amount of money we spent which made the apologies feel very insincere. In hindsight, I suppose we should have been less civil but every message we sent was polite.
