Cottage at Taughannock: State Park, Cayuga Lake, Ithaca, & Cornell
Great for a family vacation or a weekend get-away with friends, the "Cottage at Taughannock" shares a border with Taughannock State Park for extraordinary hiking, boating and swimming. Enjoy the lovely rhododendron garden flowers & birds. Play outdoor yard games & indoor board games. Study or work at desks in several bedrooms. Internet speed is 83 Mbps. Prepare meals & dine in the cottage “garden room” or grill & dine on the adjacent patio. At night, watch the stars, the fireflies, & build a fire in the patio fire pit. Sleep well on comfortable beds. The cottage is uniquely located next to Taughannock Falls State Park. Yet, it is only 4 miles from shopping in Trumansburg and 10 miles from Ithaca. It is located on the Cayuga Scenic Trail as well as the Cayuga Wine Trail, making it a central location for beauty and touring. The entire cottage and yard are yours to use and enjoy while renting. The garage contains some outdoor games and the trash cans for you to access, but is not otherwise for guest use. This is a pet-free property. If you have severe pet allergies, please be advised that the most recent time a cat stayed briefly at the cottage was in February 2023. During (now more often) hot summer days and nights, the cottage garden room has a tower AC unit to cool down the public spaces. Each bedroom has its own AC window or wall unit. We are just a phone call away if you have any questions or concerns! Please feel free to contact me. I may message you to check in with you, but will leave the interaction up to your level of comfort. The cottage is located on Rt. 89 (Taughannock Blvd.) Neighbors are spread out along the road, but the houses are out of sight from the house. The back yard is very private due to hills surrounding the bowl-shaped yard. You will need your own car. (No public transportation) There is parking for 3-4 cars.

The property is beautiful and we enjoyed the flower gardens. Very close to the Taughannock SP where did an easy hike to the waterfall. House was comfortable and well-equipped.
We enjoyed this property, very nice hosts and beautiful landscaping! Great location. The house had a strong odor of mildew or must that our family found off putting. Otherwise, we had a great time!
So many great outdoor activities in this area. Cottage was so comfortable, hosts are fantastic. Property around the cottage was beautifully landscaped and private. Highly recommend!
Very comfortable and well stocked. Conveniently located.
The toys for the 3 year old to play with was a great plus.
The decorating was awesome with all the interesting objects to look at.
The yard was great!
Beds were comfortable.
Hosts are totally awesome people!
We were visiting family in Trumansburg for Thanksgiving and needed extra room for our large party. This cottage worked out perfectly - it was plenty warm, the backyard and patio are private and lovely, and the cottage is spacious with helpful features (great buffet shelving near large dining table). We would love to return! Thank you so much to our hosts for the well appointed cottage and convenient location to Trumansburg (and Ithaca - just depends which way you want to go on 89)!
Had a wonderful weekend with some friends at the home. It's got lots of privacy, a beautiful yard and the home is warm and inviting. ACs in every bedroom ensured it was very cool, even in July! We'll definitely book the place again next time we're headed to Ithaca :)
We had an event at a place in Trumansburg so we decided to find a place close to spend the weekend. The cottage was perfect, owners were very communicative, place was clean and well stocked, and it’s in a very convenient location. Private and relaxing atmosphere, would highly recommend!

Spacious and Comfortable in a Great Location
My family and I really enjoyed our stay here. The cottage (really, more like a cozy 3 bedroom house) was clean and well-stocked with dishes, cooking tools, sheets and blankets. The location was excellent, a short drive to Ithaca and right next door to beautiful nature (lake, falls, forest).
A great property that's a 15 min drive to downtown Ithaca. It gave us a feeling of seclusion along with it being close to everything. The space was clean, well cared for and it had all of the things necessary to host a family gathering/celebration
Great spot for a group to enjoy the Finger Lakes. Easy access to Taughannock Falls and Ithaca; manageable drive to Seneca and even Keuka. The house was charming, with a well-equipped kitchen, a great dining space for meals together (and card games afterwards), and a cozy living room to enjoy a movie. But the real stars of the show were the patio and the garden, which was truly spectacular with everything in bloom when we visited in early June.
The cottage is comfortable. The bedrooms (3) are certainly adequate. The forth bedroom is two very small beds. Perfect for kids. The kitchen is fully equipped.
We had a nice stay.
We had a great stay at the cottage. It was clean, comfortable, and well appointed. The back yard has pretty gardens. It is located close to many tourist sites and makes traveling to and from very convenient, but the trucks on the road were a bit loud at times.

Perfect Cottage
The cottage was perfect! Three very comfortable and spacious bedrooms, and another very sweet single room. We loved the large eating area, well stocked and labeled kitchen, and the opportunity to sit and observe nature either through glass or in the yard. Close to parks and to Cornell. And how could I neglect the very generous and welcoming hosts!
Our family gathered for a wedding on the lake - and it was magical. The house was perfect with the state park across the street and the beautiful back yard. The kitchen was fully appointed and had all we needed. Bedding was comfortable
Ann has been amazing to communicate with from the very beginning. I don't hesitate at all in saying - book it!

Wonderful, cozy cottage for a weekend get-together
We stayed there as a group of old college friends, but the cottage would have been just as perfect for an extended family group. Sleeps three couples and one single in beds, plus plenty of room for air mattresses for extra people if you have a larger group. Two full baths, one large and one small (but large enough). Kitchen is well-equipped. Dining room is full of natural light and the yard is beautiful as well. Two-minute drive from Taughannock (no real way to walk there). Definitely recommended.

Nice older home but not terrific
The house was closed up for 4 days before we got there. There was a pungent musty smell that triggered a friend of ours asthma. She never felt great after that. We used the heat and ac units which are on the floor and in the windows to try to dry it out. Well water is nasty if you aren't used to it so be ready. The house had been cleaned and the rooms and space we had were good. As an older house there were things that were...well..old. Not the easiest place to find especially at night. The hosts were responsive to any inquiries I had which was good. Judging by our group's opinions I don't think we would would stay there again.

A Welcoming Place
Extended family members stayed here for a wedding that was held near by. The cottage is lovely and comfortable. The owners have taken extra steps to provide special touches (throw pillows, quilts, rockers) that immediately make one feel taken care of. They also stocked the kitchen with items one may need a little of during the week, but not the whole thing (cooking oil, salt, tea, etc.). In addition to enjoying the wedding, we biked to the park, hiked, and swam. After all that exercise, it felt wonderful to return to the cottage where we enjoyed just hanging out in its welcoming spaces.

Quaint cottage in need of some maintenance
For the most part my family and l enjoyed our stay at the cottage. The house appeared clean but my daughter and son suffered severe allergies from the layer of dust under furniture and behind beds. Bedroom rugs smell old and musty. That said, the kitchen and bathroom were clean. Cottage has great potential, just needs some TLC and a good vacuuming.
We were 1 minute from beach area of lake, easy 9 min drive to center of town, kids had awesome time in yard, various lawn games on site, owner very accommodating with any questions we had. Whenever will go to Ithica area coming back if available.
The Cottage was perfect! From booking to check out, everything we needed while visiting family in Ithaca. Ann and Chad were awesome hosts. We will be back.
Excellent property. Older building but well maintained. Ann was very responsive to our requests. Comfortable beds. Beautiful backyard and kitchen more than adequate. We were there for our daughter’s wedding and the proximity to the venue (2 miles) was a key feature.
Only one negative and that is the property fronts busy Highway 89 with a 55 mph speed limit. Traffic noise was not too bad but the driveway is not easy to see and you’ll get lots of honks from following traffic as you signal and brake for the driveway. Entering the driveway with following traffic is a challenge so slow and signal early. And ignore the honking.
We needed a central location for our small family to gather for Thanksgiving. The cottage was the perfect fit, both in terms of location and the amenities available.

About the host
Hosted by Ann and Chad Hoover
Ithaca residents for over 40 years, we love the area and find it hard to find any place we like better. Ann is retired from Study Abroad advising at Cornell University. Chad is a practicing architect who sees no reason to retire, as he is doing what he loves!
Why they chose this property
We knew the moment we walked on the property that our four-year search was over....we found the perfect place. It has been such fun making it our own.
What makes this property unique
Our cottage is uniquely located close to the park, but not far from Ithaca and Trumansburg. Even in March and April, early spring ephemerals surround the area. The rhododendron garden is lovely in May and early June. Flowers continue to brighten the patio throughout the summer and into the fall, then autumn color takes over the show. In winter the Norway spruce laden with snow is breathtaking and sledding, cross country skiing and skating are all close at hand.
