About this property

Doe Stowey - An English cottage escape at Stag Leap Cabins!

Doe Stowey is a quaint, English-style cottage surrounded by ivy gardens. This open-concept cabin boasts 10-foot ceilings and offers a window seat that allows one to relax and enjoy a captivating woodsy view. A fresh mixture of today's luxury with a touch of antique creates the perfect escape for couples or solitary retreats.

A king-size bed and leather loveseat provide comfortable sleeping and lounging options. The window seat cushion could also serve as additional bedding for small guests (not recommended for an adult or older child).

An elegant brick fireplace with electric logs centers the room, and wood laminate flooring adds to its spaciousness.

The bath offers total relaxation with its oversized marble shower and a transom window that supplies natural light and a view of the treetops. Gold fixtures provide a luxurious touch to the bathroom. An outdoor shower is located in the private garden area behind the cabin.

The kitchenette has a refrigerator/freezer, a small 3-burner cooktop, a microwave/air fryer/convection oven combo, a toaster, coffee maker, and all basic cook and dining ware.

Meals can be enjoyed at the high-top table that sits in front of a large window or outside on the private, covered deck. A charcoal grill is also provided for cooking tasty meals.

The cabin's thermostatically controlled heat and air and an electric fireplace help keep it comfortable. It is located within an easy walk to the shared guest laundry room and the hot tub, which can be reserved for private use in one-hour increments.

Wayne and Mattie Collins own the property and still live in the main house, which also serves as the office. They purchased the property in the late 1980s. At the time, it was raw forest land with no improvements, but logging trails throughout the original 200 acres excited their son, Kirby, who was an ATV enthusiast. They were most interested in the property because of its varied terrain, the beautiful, spring-fed creek that runs through it, and its location to their childhood roots.

Kirby and his dad built a bachelor pad for Kirby (now the Treehouse) when he started attending Stephen F. Austin University. Upon Kirby and Sabrina's marriage in 1993, his cabin sat vacant, thus the beginning of the cabin rental business we affectionately call Stag Leap (befitting since the "stag" leaped out of his cabin into marriage).

It is a true family business - Mattie enjoys meeting our guests and will most likely greet you upon arrival. Kirby handles all the maintenance and grounds, and his wife, Sabrina, helps with reservations and website management. Their youngest daughter, Sydney, serves as Kirby's sidekick and helps with cabin cleaning, accounting, and marketing.

Together, we love giving our guests an authentic East Texas experience.

Why they chose this property

Growing up in rural East Texas has given us a deep appreciation for natural settings. We love our tall pine, oak, and hickory trees and the creek that runs through our property. Having a lot of acreage adds to our feeling of safety and privacy and gives us plenty of roaming room.

Being close to Lake Nacogdoches is a real plus, too. We have spent many summers boating on the lake with our children. Stag Leap is an easy drive to both Nacogdoches and Lufkin. Both towns have bustling downtown areas for shopping and special events, and each offers unique places to visit and explore. We enjoy the small-town feel with many great shopping, dining, and entertainment options.

What makes this property unique

Stag Leap is located on a 250+-acre woodland with secluded cabins scattered along the sandy-bottom Bonaldo Creek. We are the perfect getaway for a romantic weekend, family reunions, small group retreats, or extended stays. Our relaxing, cozy, home-like setting doesn't compare to what you'll find in a hotel!

We are close to numerous popular activities and attractions. We are ten minutes from historic downtown Nacogdoches, with brick streets, quaint antique shops, and numerous museums and historical landmarks. A short drive from our property is Stephen F. Austin University, home of the Lumberjacks and its state-recognized azalea gardens, the largest in Texas. Nacogdoches is also a prime destination for pickleball and disc golf enthusiasts, and fishermen love that we are just four miles from Lake Nacogdoches, which provides boating, swimming, fishing, and disc golf opportunities. As part of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Pineywood Trail, we also offer excellent opportunities for bird watching and other wildlife without ever leaving our property, so bring your binoculars!

We offer six uniquely decorated cabins that are private and secluded from each other. Our cabins offer various sleeping accommodations and have fully stocked kitchens, free WiFi, satellite television, charcoal grills, and air conditioning. Most have whirlpool Jacuzzi tubs (inside or outside) and electric log fireplaces for a romantic ambience. All linens (sheets, bath towels, washcloths, dish towels) are provided.

We offer a large, centrally located hot tub for all guests and other amenities and activities such as golf cart rentals, disc golf, basketball, horseshoes, and hiking.
