Wheelchair Accessible Vacation

My husband uses a wheelchair at all time, so it's hard to find a place that is accessible for him. This place was perfect for anyone using a wheelchair. There is a ramp to get into the house with a first floor set-up. The doorways were wide and my husband was easily able to get around the house as it wasn't cluttered. He was even able to access the back porch easily for a beautiful view of Lake Champlain. The bathroom has a roll in shower with no threshold, hand held shower and wheelchair accessible sink. The bed height was perfect for transferring in and out of from a wheelchair. It was great to be able to fit our whole family in this house for a wonderful vacation together!

Beautiful Lake Champlain

Family Gathering

The exceptional views, warm fireplace, and spacious living and kitchen made our family gathering most enjoyable. The location allowed us to easily walk into town as well.

House 5*: The lakehouse truly is a "gem", as other reviews mentioned, both comfortable & historic...excellent location for leaf-peeping & exploring E Adirondacks & VT, scenic water/mountain views with gorgeous sunrise, cozy & charming (like Grandma's!), spacious (all 7 of us had our own bed), assessable master & large well-equipped kitchen big plusses. Many pantry items furnished, along with soaps, paper goods, first aid supplies. Housekeeping 1*: First impression not great...house number covered by bush so unsure we were at right house...entering, we were greeted by so many mosquitos & spiders (& other bugs & nests), cobwebs in every room & on ceilings, dust behind beds & furniture, etc, so before unpacking, we armed with brooms & flyswats to bug kill & cobweb clear just to be able to sleep! Next morning we discovered a really dirty oven, a floor that didn’t meet our standards with kibble, cobwebs & dust, so before preparing breakfast we mopped the kitchen & wiped everything down. (Never had to do that at a VRBO!) Linens clean but 2 threadbare topsheets tore when 2 of my roommates merely turned over, then 1st chair we pulled out at (living room) table was broken. (Beware: no handrail & steep steps down to basement w/d.) And, I didn’t want to write any of that because I’ve never given anything but a stellar review in all my many years of vacation renting, but suspect Robby is an absent landlord & his standards are not reflected in what we found & experienced!

lake life

this camp is lovely. very positive vibes! the surrounding area had just enough restaurants and shops to keep me entertained while staying "home" was a delight as well. having my dog with me was the cherry on top. please note steps to lake are a challenge and the shower on the first floor cannot be relied upon for hot water. everything else was great!!!!

Gorgeous Lake Champlain

We had a great time staying in this very comfortable house overlooking Lake Champlain. With easy access to the lake and a short walk into town, as well as the nearby Adirondack Mountains, it was a perfect rental for our family.

Absolutely Perfect

The property was all it was supposed to be and more. We had a few rainy days and there was enough room (inside & out) to allow everyone some quiet space. This was our first time here and we've already reserved a week next year. The downstairs bedroom and wheelchair accessible shower were a gift. Overall, this was a 5-star gem.

Beautiful, restful vacation

Perfect location for proximity to town, summer music, kayak rental, fireworks! Lovely lake view from porch and living room and nice private sandy beach. Home is charming, very interesting library. We enjoyed our stay (and our lab really enjoyed fetch in the lake!).

Great Location

Pro's perfect spot on the lake with view to Vermont to the east Lot's of room Con's No key to lock the house while away, host says house hasn't been locked since 1947. We had valuable items with us that could not be secured while away from the house. Not locking the house is ok if it's your residence but should be required when renting the house. Lot's of dust and dead bugs on window sills

The perfect vacation home!

Wonderful well appointed house sitting on a gorgeous piece of property w/ private beach on Lake Champlain. Fully equipped with everything a renter would want. This is a perfect place to rent regardless of the season - any day, all day, the views are divine. I highly recommend this rental property. Given all the positive attributes of this house & property you will immediately feel right at home. In addition, Robby Barnett is a very responsive & accommodating host. It was an all around very pleasant experience.

Perfect lake getaway

Another wonderful vacation

Our family has rented this property several times, and we have thoroughly enjoyed each visit in the quiet neighborhood. The home is always very clean, just "lived in" enough to be comfortable, and has beautiful views from the lakeside windows. The property is always well-maintained, with a large, shaded front yard and a roomy back yard as well. The front porch, partly covered, is a perfect place for family meals. The private, sandy beach is perfect place to relax (and, for the younger ones, to build sand castles and look for lake glass.) There are 30 steps from the front lawn down to the beach, which adds to the privacy, but if stairs are difficult, that would be something to consider. All in all, a wonderful place to stay!

Stunning home and location

The home is beautiful and spacious and has a relaxed feeling about it. It’s older with lots of character. The kitchen is well equipped— we cooked and grilled and found everything we needed. There are views of beautiful lake Champlain from just about every room in the house and the sandy beach was perfect for relaxation. Would certainly stay there again.

Comfortable, spacious home in an amazing spot right on Lake Champlain. Lots of character and great for kids. Was great for a winter getaway and would be absolutely perfect for warmer months.

Neat house, not very clean.

Living in a 100 year old home, I'm used to old house quirks. But the musty smell of this house bothered my allergies and it was not up to my standards of cleanliness. We ended up leaving 2 days early.

It's a charming town. And a lovely house.

This is an absolutely gorgeous property. It is an old-ish house, so it has some character. It is well maintained and lends itself to a very comfortable stay. Everyone had a lovely time.

Beautiful View

The house was amazing...old but very interesting. A former family member had been an editor at Life Magazine. He had an incredible library that fascinated us! However, the house was a bit neglected-looking and needed some repairs...but mostly needed a really good cleaning and better towels snd more of them.

Why they chose this property

My father was an editor and writer for Life Magazine, my mother a settlement house volunteer, and they left NYC in 1946 to live in Westport. I was born in Elizabethtown and my brother Tim and I still spend much of our time in the house our parents bought in 1947.

What makes this property unique

THE GROUND FLOOR OF THE HOUSE IS FULLY HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE... in addition to a great beach, spectacular views of the lake and the Green Mountains stretching from Mt Mansfield in the north down past Mt Abraham and the southern peaks.
And, of course, Westport: a remarkable small town, with direct train service from Penn Station in NYC, a first-rate summer stock theater, excellent marina, beautiful 19th century library, many good restaurants, a terrific brewery, state boat launch for easy access to our great Lake Champlain, and a lovely park overlooking the lake in the center of town with a sandy public beach.
