Relaxing stay, pure Costa Rica

Great facilities and location for walks down the beach and access to beer/groceries. Lots of facilities/restaurants within walking distance. Had a rental car, hardly used it. Traffic and bars don't observe the 11:00 noise restriction though :) Spent 12 days here, had a great vacation.

Casita

Property is entirely as listed. Photos and descriptions were accurate. Neighborhood within walking distance of grocery stores, pharmacy, eateries both local and more touristy, and most of all close to the beach and local activities. The beach was beautiful and walkable to playa cocles. The property management was fast to respond and answer questions including extending our stay. It is an open air property so we were able to see toucans, agouti, turtles, howler monkeys, and many more local wildlife. Just remember to bring bug spray. Thankfully, mosquito nets are provided. Although there was no air conditioning(not important to us) fans were provided, which helped a lot. We also felt great about the gated entry way.

Cool experience

We enjoyed staying at la casita. We had a family of about 20 howler monkeys stay with us the last 2 days. The beach is incredible. However the appliances could be updated as well as better pillows on the beds.

La Casita es un lindo lugar, la pasamos bien

Esta muy cerca de todo, excelente ubicación. Tener un juego de sábanas para casos de emergencias, sobre todo para familias que viajan con niños.

Fun in the almost jungle

We had a wonderful time. This property is close to a (the) busy road. Frequent tuk tuks and general traffic, nothing crazy but you'll hear it from the house. At the same time, that allowed us to bike everywhere (PV almost daily, and even to Manzanillo) and home safely every night (we never stayed out that late, just until 10/11). Don't expect your western fortress here. Think of it as really great glamping! If you're considering Puerto Viejo area, you understand what I mean! Management was accomodating and even scheduled our shuttle from San Jose for us (and it was easy-peasy). If you're easy-going, want an outdoor (but hot!) shower, and to hear to howler monkeys loud and clear everymorning you'll love it here!

La jolie casita

Nous avons passé un séjour très agréable. La maison est bien équipée pour cuisiner. La plage à proximité est tout à fait magnifique et quasi déserte. Plusieurs restaurants aux alentours. Les vacances ...

Lovely Caribbean Hideaway

We love La Casita! It's rustic and charming and wonderfully comfortable. It was like living on a back porch with a mesmerizing view of the jungle. The kitchen is well stocked and clean. We'd go back anytime!

Unique open air home in pretty natural surrounding

My family and I truly enjoyed the rustic, open-air La Casita. It was wonderful to be immersed in nature for a week! The property had a jungle feel with colorful birds, beautiful trees and tropical flowers in the yard, a daily visit by cute agouti, morning wake up call by howler monkeys, and even an almost 3 ft lizard in a nearby tree. A rather unpopulated beach is a short 5 minute walk away although the waves are pretty intense like they are throughout the area. Two surprises - loud road noise just on the other side of the creek, a garbage dump area to the right of the entrance gate, and close neighbors. Still, the property felt private, was wonderful to laze in the hammock or small beds in the living area, or the bug netted beds. The mosquitoes/bugs were surprisingly minimal. Groceries, restaurants, and a bakery were all within walking distance. Activities not to be missed: Jaguar animal rescue (no jaguars but very cool), Sloth Reserve, and if you’re craving adrenaline, canopy tour and whitewater rafting.

Magical stay in Cocles

I struggle with the dilemma of wanting to RAVE about our stay and yet keep the review brief so as to promote readership. Our desire was to AVOID AT ALL COSTS staying in a resort, isolated from the experience of meeting real Costa Ricans. I wanted to see whether the tales of Costa Rican hospitality are true. THEY ARE!!! This place is EXACTLY as you see it in the pictures. Just a note to insect-o-phobes: in our 6 night stay, we slept with the window panels wide open WITHOUT USING THE MOSQUITO NETTING at night and not one insect touched our skin! It was a MAJOR concession for my wife to agree to stay in a house with no air conditioning. After our stay, she agreed that her anxieties were unwarranted. Floor fans, coupled with how early darkness comes negated all her fears. An insomniac at our home in Indiana, she couldn't believe how well she slept. Beautiful, rustic, quirky, cool, spectacular in it's functionality, it was an immense pleasure to wander wonderful Puerto Viejo and finish our fun at La Casita each night. Located near grocery stores, restaurants and beaches we found ourselves in exhultation every moment of our stay. Fernanda was available to us at any time we needed travel or tour advice. I want to express my gratitude to Monica and Nathalia for making this propriety available to us. With so many things to do and places to go and places to eat (Don't miss Stashu's Con Fusion) resulted in our not prioritizing going to the picture postcard beaches until our THIRD DAY! If this is a fantasy for you, fulfillment is but a reservation away. The most amazing trip of our lives, beyond all doubt.

Great get-a-way complete with jungle sounds.

The house was very clean and everything worked as needed. Nathalia was very helpful getting us settled in. Because of it's open "wall" design sleeping required ear plugs and eye masks, but the open design also kept the place from getting stuffy. The bugs were not bad and between the mosquito nets and fans in the bedrooms we did not have any problems. It took the first night for my wife, two daughters (7 and 10 years old) and I to get used to the jungle sounds. Along with the geckos and frogs chirping, we were visited by some howler monkeys. Those suckers are loud! And evidently they get crazy just after a rain like kids that have been cooped up too long. Once we could identify the source of the sounds it was easy to roll over and go back to sleep. Our kids had a great time, we did not see any other little kids visiting there, but the locals are very family oriented and we always felt safe. Make sure you visit Manzanillo, you can rent kayaks and go up a mangrove. We saw monkeys, sloths, "Jesus Christ Lizards" and lots of other cool stuff. It was very serene and shaded in the mangrove. The beach at Punta Uva is great too. The Jaguar Rescue Center is worth taking a tour of as well, and if your up for it the night tour is amazing.

Three month stay at La Casita

This is a nice house, in an excellent location with easy access to fruit stand, groceries, and spectacular beaches. This was our home Jan thru Mar, 2016. The house faces a small river, which provided hours of entertainment watching colorful birds and animals drawn to the water. Monkeys, sloths, otters, and agoutis were regular visitors to the neighborhood. Blue Morpho butterflies and hummingbirds sailed through the house daily. The veranda was a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the beauty. The open design of the house, and surrounding tree canopy, provided good air flow with plenty of cooling shade. One morning we had the unlikely experience of a baby 3-toed sloth dropping from the ceiling rafters onto the floor of the veranda. Luckily uninjured, somehow he and mother had become separated during the night. The nearby Jaguar Rescue Center took the baby with them, after recording it’s squeals which the mother would recognize. We played the recording daily through a satellite speaker, watching the tree canopy. After two weeks a sloth appeared that was very interested in the sound. They returned with the baby, and agreed this was mother. Using a stick to lasso rope over a branch, they placed the baby in a straw purse and raised him 20 feet into the tree. The mother climbed down to the purse, reached down and scooped up her baby. She helped him onto her back, gave us all a long look (smile?) and moved back up into the canopy. An emotional, thrilling experience none of us will forget. The house was cleaned weekly, and the property managers were quick to resolve problems. WiFi was excellent. The condition of the house was somewhat less than we expected, and one of two long-term rentals that share the property was quite close to La Casita and it’s shower/bath house. Puerto Viejo is a 30 minute walk, or 10 minute bike ride away. Bus service is also available. Our favorite destinations were Mariscos Mopri fish market, Don Hugo butcher shop, Gustibus bakery and Deelite gelato. The Saturday farmer’s market is great for local products, and to practice your Spanish skills. Our 3 months flew by, and it was a great experience. We will definitely consider La Casita again, on future trips to this area.

Beautiful peaceful house

Lots of things to love about this place. Easy to get to (just off the main road in Cocles). Near a grocery store. Quick walk to the beach which was great for swimming if the currents weren't too strong. Close to bike rentals so you can explore the CR Caribbean coast. An abundance of fruit trees and wildlife on the property. We had an amazing week here. You will be roughing it somewhat but that's what we wanted. Internet was spotty and the phone didn't really work. But we didn't care - it was just fewer distractions from our amazing destination. We felt at home in La Casita Cocles. Highly recommended!

ten great days at LaCasita

My wife and I were fortunate enough to spend ten wonderful days at LaCasita. We were happily surprised in many ways. Firstly the drive down was great on good roads with no problems. We found our destination and were surprised on how lovely the grounds were and how airy and nice the house was. It is a short walk to a lovely endless beach, with virtually no one on it. Less than a block away is a lovely deli and wine shop which is neat clean and wonderfully stocked. The restaurants in the area are close, cheap and with wonderful food, that coming from my wife who is a gourmet cook. The outdoor shower, which is typical of the area has beautiful artistic tiles and the cooking facilities were fine. You are close to Panama and the sloth sanctuary and some of the most beautiful scenery you can imagine. For those who surf there are some outrageous waves. Everything was clean and well kept up. Consider yourselves lucky if you get to go.
