Great stay!
Spindrift was an awesome choice for my family vaca. The location was perfect for having 2 young kids. Beaches were in walking distance. The house is well maintained and everything in the kitchen was super useful for home cooked meals. Before arrival the host (Sue) was very timely with communication for any questions I had. Great property and I would highly recommend!

Wonderful!
Loved it all, well maintained, clean, safe, yard and front portico are great spaces. But the road is definitely noisy (which we knew ahead of time). During our stay, there was also construction going on across the street and even a few days of it on the neighbouring property. Otherwise, exceeded expectations.

Perfect Accommodations for Family and great location
Very smooth and professional process and communication with owners. Large property and 4 bedrooms were perfect for my wife and I and our 2 adult kids and 15 year old. Close walk to quiet and beautiful Gibbs beach on tranquil upper west coast. As with most rentals there were some minor issues but not enough to detract from an awesome vacation. Drains in shower are not at low point so there is pooling of water, toilets do not flush well, large bugs on walls in room near kitchen. No lounge or comfortable chairs/lounge outside. Had to bring plastic chairs to beach. As it rained everyday our clothes on the outdoor line had a difficult time drying and resorted to hanging them in the indoor side of windows. A dryer would be an upgrade. Electric bbq was very difficult to clean. Very cool seeing numerous green monkeys go through the yard in the afternoon!

Just right
Property is fine. Kitchen is well equipped. Gas stove takes getting used to. Good cleaning and taxi support .Monkeys drop by near sunset. Road noise in the morning takes some getting used to as well but usual for 1/2 of Barbados . All 6 of us had lots of comfortable space.

Fabulous
I loved everything about this house. It is beautifully taken care by Janetta (the best), is well equipped and close to beautiful beaches. It is also well situated vis a vis fine dining and the monkeys passing through the front yard were very entertaining. Despite some noise from the road everything was wonderful. Mike and Sue were very responsive and i have no hesitation recommending this property Anyone can book with confidence Dave Smith

Perfect villa in the perfect location
I would highly recommend Spindrift, what a lucky find. This is our third year staying at Mullins Bay and the best villa so far. Spindrift has so much character and the location is perfect, literally a five minute walk to the beach. The large garden and veranda is great for all congregating over breakfast or in the evenings if you don't want to venture out, we even had monkeys running through the garden on one occasion which was an amazing sight. We will definitely not look at any other villa options when we next visit Barbados.

Perfect villa for family holiday.
Spindrift is located in a great spot between the beautiful beaches of Gibbes and Mullins. Depending on how fast you walk they can be reached between 5/7mins.. Across the road, set back in its own garden lies Spindrift. It has a lovely covered terrace at the front where we ate each evening and played games. The kitchen is sufficiently equipped. Each of the four bedrooms have a/c. The front bedroom gets the noise from the road which starts around 5am with buses racing up the road. The plus side is that the yellow or blue buses stop right outside, every few minutes. There is always room, and for only $2 you can have a most exciting ride, well worth the experience. We found food shopping very expensive. Fortunately Jeanetta (our housekeeper and a fountain of information ) suggested that we tried Speightstown Jordan's supermarket and the street market where the locals shop. We ate lunch a few times at The Fisherman’s Pub, which gave us a real taste of Bajan food. We love Speightstown and friendliness of the people. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Spindrift. It is a lovely spacious comfortable villa. We are all looking forward to staying in the future. Many thanks to Sue and Mike.

beautiful place but noisy
Mike and Sue are great owners and the building and grounds are excellent. All of the positives about Spindrift were offset by the noise from the highway in front of the property. It was never quiet

Excellent location with peaceful yard
This house is amazing for many reasons. The main one I think is that it is in a location that is nearby to so much to offer, right off the main road - yet - it has a huge, beautiful, garden-like yard in front. We put a hammock up, sat in chairs, napped, read - and that is not even talking about the enjoyable times spent on the large veranda with light, fans, table, chairs.... Very easy to walk to Gibbes and Mullins beaches. Can catch buses right there to go. I saw a huge troop of monkeys crossing street. Buses can take to anywhere you would want to go, but the house also has 2-car covered parking locked into gates at yard and house, off of nice lighted drive. Everything worked, well-stocked. Air conditioning in bedrooms. Huge house really, with good TV and furniture in living area. Plenty of towels, including beach towels appreciated. Mike and Sue were so easy and helpful throughout the entire booking process. If you are someone who likes to stay more in a quiet area, as we have always done on our visits to Barbados (we stay way over on east coast Bottom Bay in neighborhood with no stores, restaurants, etc. - I was worried I would not want to stay on west coast - although most people stay here) However, I can assure you, we enjoyed being close to Folkstone to snorkel, near to so many beaches, and convenience of stores, out-to-eat, etc. Yes there are the traffic sounds, but this is the property to choose, with this beautiful setting back off road with garden yard, very secure. Shower in front to wash off sand, laundry... The large size house and way laid out makes nice for group. It was 3 couples - my husband and our two grown kids and their spouses. Gibbes had some snorkeling, lots of sea glass, was surprised was as quiet as it was, as next beach up -Mullins has bar, activities, restaurant - so choose either right there. Again, huge positive factor was that the owners were so helpful and communicative. I have rented from HomeAway and VRBO... many times, and this was an excellent experience. Would recommend going to Holetown, behind post office/police station, it is where the boats come to snorkel with turtles, could just swim out there. But we did enjoy going on Sin-Bad Sailing Cruise from there. Find Bryan on TripAdvisor. Thanks so much to Spences for sharing their home in Barbados - they have been there for years and can help you with the island experience. Our favorite island vacation for sure.

Perfect family vacation spot
This house is lovely and was perfect for us (adult family members on holiday together). It would suit families with young children or couples as well. The beach is less than a five-minute walk and everything you need to spend the day there is available easily. The water for swimming is just beautiful and chair and umbrella rentals at the beaches nearby are inexpensive and for us were easy to come by. The house is well enough equipped to make meals, but plenty of restaurants are nearby, too. The verandah is perfect for drinks, coffee, dinner and card games. The home's housekeeper Janeta is lovely and attentive, and the owners while not necessarily nearby, were so prompt and helpful to us, including some advice on some travel snags we had at the beginning of our trip. It is a bit hard to find in the dark on the first time (just a product of the dark, the directions are correct). We downloaded a Google map of Barbados on our phones which works offline for up to 30 days and that helped us get around immensely. It's a great spot and we would certainly return.

8/10 Good

Relaxed stay for all the family
Excellent location re access to beaches----if a little noisy from traffic. Comfortably furnished and sleeps 7 people easily. Front verandah excellent and we carefully moved the dining room table there and had every meal outside! Juanetta helped two days a week to give the house a quick clean as well as hanging out some washing for us. Reasonably priced for the area so close to Gibbs and Mullins beaches.

Very close to the beach, lovely Bajan hospitality
We had a great time at Spindrift. We loved seeing monkeys in the front yard, walking to the beach, and sitting outside. The villa is very well thought out, and we all had space. The kitchen is well equipped and we cooked at least one meal a day at the house. We loved having the outdoor tap to rinse our feet of sand, and the long clothesline outside so we could dry our bathing suits. We ended up not using the air conditioning in all of the bedrooms each night as the ceiling fans were sufficient. There is a bit of road noise in the master bedroom, so we preferred the other rooms. Janeta, the housekeeper was extremely kind and helpful. She even guided us to the grocery store and to a restaurant, and helped us park our car! Enjoy being in Barbados, and be sure to check out the vans that sell food in the streets (there was one not far from the beach, just up a side street each morning). We loved eating Bajan breakfast food.

About the host

Hosted by Mike and Sue Spence

Host profile image
Caribbean guy meets Florida girl in Barbados. Mike met Sue while she was down on holiday with his family. They dated, married and moved to Seattle, WA. where Mike was employed by Boeing. Over the next 35 years, they raised their 2 boys and flew down to Barbados as often as school, work and finances allowed. Now that Mike is retired they hope to spend more time at their own 'Place in the Sun' on Mullins Beach when they are not sharing Spindrift with other vacationers.

Why they chose this property

Mike grew up in Barbados in a Traditional Coral Stone home with traditional mahogany furniture. He spent most of his younger years snorkeling at Bath Beach on the East Coast, but as when he started driving, he would come to West Coast's Mullins Beach. Our Spindrift is just across the street from where he used to swim (and drink rum at the Beach Bar).
It's the a perfect little Coral Stone home. Large enough to entertain family and friends - Small enough to be cozy and inviting. Open beam vaulted ceilings add to its charm and the 3 large, lovely arched doorways that lead from the main living area out onto the circular veranda soften the traditional layout.

What makes this property unique

We were so fortunate to find such a comfortable home within a 5 minute walk to the beach. We grab our beach bag and we are off to walk, swim, snorkel or sun.
When we are home, we live on the veranda - entertaining family and friends, reading, playing games, and enjoying our beverages as we watch nature pass through our garden. In the evenings we can watch the sunset through the trees.

Location, Location, Location . . . Just a short walk to several bars, restaurants or the mini-mart.
We are perfectly situated between Holetown and Speightstown. A 15 minute car or bus ride will get us to: a department store and a supermarket in either town, several more bars and restaurants, 2 hardware stores, the fish market, snorkeling in Folkstone and shopping for either a high-end something special or a T-shirt or local crafts. We can also go to church - ours or several others (*** Fun Fact*** Barbados has more churches and rum shops, per capita, than any other country in the world!)

Wonderful sights and activities unfold within a 1 hour drive from Spindrift.
*All of the beaches around the island are public and each is worth visiting- Bathsheba, Bath, Accra, Crane, Harrismith, Rockley just to name a few.
*Every Parish has its namesake church - many hundreds of years old
*Lovely gardens like Hunte's, Andromeda or Welchman's Hall Gully
*Historic Bridgetown, (Yes, George Washington slept here!) Plantation houses like Sunbury or St. Nicholas Abbey.
*Monuments and Statues- Gunn Hill, Nelson's statue in Bridgetown (is older than the one in London! )
Harrison's Cave . . . and then there are the Rum Distilleries: Mount Gay, Four Square (RL Seale)

We love Barbados! It's the Tropics - It's Warm!
Family, Friends, Sun, Fun, Beaches and Rum!
