About this property
A Step Away: Close to Downtown + River + Nature Preserve
Our neighborhood abuts the Peterson Nature Preserve and is located across the street from the Kalamazoo River. Downtown Saugatuck is a short walk and the beaches are easy drives. Our adjacent one bedroom guesthouse may be available for rent (a fence with a gate separates the two homes) if more space is desired. Enjoy all amenities offered inside and out. All "A Step Away" guests receive a discount when shopping our local store during their stay. Lastly, we're dog friendly (w/approval & fee). We have a 5* average review for this family home on the ”other” rental site.
This "A Step Away" family home has a lot to offer: Location. Amenities. Hospitality. The exterior of this updated single story home offers a fenced rear yard and mature as well as newer landscaping and easy on-site parking is available for a few vehicles. The interior offers comfortable accommodations for up to six (our adjacent one bedroom home may be available for rent-the homes are separated by a fence with a gate) and it is styled with décor fitting the character of Saugatuck and Douglas and the local beach and arts scenes.
The home is prefect for almost any combination of travelers (from one to seven adult guests). Whether you're traveling solo, as a couple, or with your friends/family, the home is perfectly designed for carefree living. The sleeping arrangements include two bedrooms and a sleeping den: One bedroom offers a queen bed and the second bedroom incudes a full bed and a twin bunk and the den includes a twin daybed (with twin trundle under). The kitchen (with breakfast/coffee nook) offers views of the back yard and incudes a laundry closet. The open concept living room / dining room offers a vaulted ceiling and space to socialize. The den (sleeping den) is surrounded with windows on three sides and offers views of the front yard and the neighborhood. The modern bathroom (shower only) is near the bedrooms. We think that our "A Step Away" home is the perfect spot for your Saugatuck get-away.
"A Step Away" guests can stop into our home décor/clothing/jewelry store in Downtown Saugatuck (Kindel & Company at 241 Culver St.) and ask us for suggestions about the area's attractions, restaurants, and shopping (we call it "lite" concierge services). All "A Step Away" guests who shop at our store will enjoy a guest-only special discount.
If you need more space to be together but apart, our adjacent one bedroom home may be available ( "A Step Away: All New-Walk to Town & Dog Friendly" Link: https://www.vrbo.com/3939118 )....The homes are separated by a fence (with gate).
hings to know before you make a reservation:
• There’s no elevator buttons to press. There’s no common entrance halls to share: The home is for you and your guests only.
• Our homes are thoroughly cleaned by local cleaning professionals with whom we have built long term relationships. Cleaning protocols are monitored and updated by your hosts as necessary and we regularly inspect all homes.
• We have contactless check-in and to further improve your stay we share our digital “Guest eGuide” with you before your arrival.
• Please enter your expected guest count (adult/children/infant) when making inquiry or reservation.
• Primary renters must be 25 years of age or older.
• Parties are not permitted.
Fees and Taxes that will/may be included in your reservation cost:
• PET FEES and EXPECTATIONS:
Certain dogs (up to two) are considered and there is a per stay pet fee, if approved. Do not select "Instant Book" unless the host has approved your dog(s). There is a maximum of two dogs per stay. The pet fee will be added to your reservation as long as you select a count for "pets" on your search/reservation/inquiry. Guests may be able to add/amend/include approved dogs on their confirmed reservation (i.e., on a reservation that did not include dog(s)) if you contact the host regarding this change/request (A pet fee adjustment will be sent to you before your arrival).
We appreciate being able to bring our pets on trips but there are responsibilities that come with that privilege. It is the expectation that the dog will be kept on a leash when not in fenced area. It is the expectation that the dog’s owner will pick up all dog waste and dispose of the waste in an appropriate location outside of the home. It is the expectation that the dog’s owner will not allow the dog(s) to bark incessantly or often or during normal quiet hours. It is the expectation that the dog is truly a part of your vacation and will not be left alone in the home for an extended period of time. It is the expectation that if your pet causes damage to the home or its contents that the owner will immediately notify the host.
• CLEANING FEES: The cleaning fee will be allocated over the number of nights reserved. The cleaning fee covers a portion of the actual costs incurred (paid to a local service provider and laundry).
• SALES TAXES: Michigan and local law requires the host to collect a 6% sales/use tax on the base rate plus any additional fees (cleaning, dog, extra person(s) fees)-by law for stays under 31 days only. VRBO will withhold these taxes and your host will remit the sales taxes to the State of Michigan.
Things to know for before and during your stay:
• We (or the landscaper) might need to tend to landscaping/lawn but this won't be done too early or too late in the day. The automatic sprinkler system will operate in-season.
• During your stay and on checkout day: Deposit all commingled garbage and recycling (Saugatuck does not offer regular recycling) out to the waste receptacles located near the side gate.
• Checkout day: Please leave all soiled towels in the bathroom. Leave dirty linens on unmade bed(s).
• Checkout day: Place all dirty dishes in the dishwasher and run the dishwasher before departing and if you use the propane grill please burn off (and wire-brush the grates) any remnants of your feast (a wire brush is in the grill's tank area).
• Please turn off all lights, close all windows, and adjust HVAC to stated temperature prior to checking out.
• Finally, please lock the digital entry lock when you leave.
Thank you ~ R & C

East Coast meets Midwest and Saugatuck sure has an East Coast feel...We like to travel and we take great pride in our vacation home accommodations.
Our "lifestyle mercantile" retail store in downtown Saugatuck creates a great synergy for our "A Step Away" guests because we're available to offer "concierge-lite" services and a storewide discount. Stay. Shop. Relax.
We've traveled together to many cities : Provincetown, Boston, Manhattan, Brooklyn, DesMoines, Las Vegas, Orlando, South Beach, Detroit, Eureka Springs, Chicago, Dallas, Lake Havasu City, Florence, Seville, Corsica, Paris, London, Barcelona, Newport. To be continued....
Some favorite sites: Fenway Park, The London Bridge, Provincetown Pilgrim Monument, Herring Cove Beach, nearly empty cruise ships on port days, West Point....
