Mtn. Chalet With A Tranquil Setting - Close To Everything!
I fell in love with the Smoky Mountains since the first time I set eyes on them. I came down to Gatlinburg for some R&R and next thing you know we bought a chalet to eventually retire in. I fixed it to my liking and now family, friends and YOU are able to enjoy relaxing and a great adventure…hence the name “Secondhand Lions” (a favorite movie of mine). Conveniently located just a few short minute’s to downtown Gatlinburg or to the top of Ski Mountain (Ober Gatlinburg), quiet walkways and, of course, the Great Smoky Mountain park entrance where the adventure really begins.
“Secondhand Lions” …Tranquil setting with all the comforts of home! The great room is decorated in Native American art. The bedrooms are equipped with a pair of Jacuzzi Hydro Message Tubs for that deep relaxation after a long day of hiking or shopping- whichever you prefer.
Surrounded by trees and wildlife make this a very relaxing and comfortable stay. ( Warning: we have bears frequent our deck and seem to be able to open unlocked car doors). Please take a photo of your stay and send me if you encounter a bear on the property. We will display it on our refrigerator.
Special weekly rates and off-season rates…call or email to find out. Enjoy in season Owners Club facilities (choice of 3 on the mountain).
Thank you for choosing our “great mountain getaway”!

It was a nice property overall. The driveway was a bit steep. The only thing that needs attention is some cleaning. The kitchen needed some extra pots or pans that were newer and under the kitchen sink there was a lot of stuff that shouldn't have been in the kitchen.
Loved it so much we will be back. Everything you need we stayed all week it was easy to get to both towns very quite loved it. the host was great and very friendly. We will be back
Wonderful chalet! Super close to downtown (light 10) but felt miles away and secluded. All amenities needed for a little getaway. Will definitely stay here again.
The property was everything that was stated in the description. It was very clean, well provided for, and we had everything that we needed for a pleasant stay. The only thing that it lacked was a view. As far as the driveway is concerned, it was easily navigated, even with a large truck. It just required a reroute from Gatlinburg going through the entire neighborhood. No biggie!
We LOVE this chalet! We have been coming here for several years now. It almost feels like our own vacation home, thanks to Dave sharing his home with us!
The chalet is located close to downtown Gatlinburg and to the bypass to Pigeon Forge, but still beautifully set in the mountains.
The chalet is very clean and has every amenity we could need. Dave is an excellent host making the reservation and check in process a breeze. We have never had any issues while staying here and look forward to returning next year!
This cabin was very nice. It was close to town & the park. It had everything we needed. Communication was great with the owner when needed. The hot tub on the front porch was a nice surprise.
We did see a bear & a few foxes right from the porch. Unfortunately, we did not get pictures of the animals.
My only negative was the angle of the driveway entrance. For my Jeep Wrangler, it was difficult (but not impossible) to pull into from Ski Mountain Road. If I took a slight detour & came at the cabin from the opposite direction, it was much easier to navigate the driveway. I'm pretty sure this is the case for most cabins in the mountains.
we stayed here for a weekend away, brought the teens and pupp. we all enjoyed the house! we even got to see bears from the hot tub!! was a neat experience!!
We absolutely loved the cabin and how close it was to everything! Only issue we had was the driveway. Other than that it was a beautiful place to stay at. Couldn’t ask for a nicer gentleman who owns it. Definitely worth staying here.
The cabin is very nice and cozy. The driveway is a little tricky to get in and out of. Keep your vehicle locked and all food out of it, bears can smell crumbs, the reason i say this is because there is a resident bear. I am actually surprised that it has not bothered the bee box that is at the side of the cabin but i did not see any active hobey bees so maybe tgat is why. Be careful of wearing just socks on the stairs, they are a little slick, all in all a nice stay
This cabin was quaint and nicely located, though the road leading there was a bit daunting. The property was exactly as described and the location was peaceful but close to downtown Gatlinburg. This was perfect for us because we needed to take our dog with us. One of the few pet friendly rentals around. I would definitely book this property again in the future.
We have been staying here several years now, and the chalet feels like our getaway mountain home, thanks to David's hospitality! This is a perfect location for us and our four-legged babies. It is close to Gatlinburg, but away from the hustle and bustle. We saw numerous bears this trip, including a mama and three cubs. We've already booked our getaway for next fall! Thanks for having us again, David!
Great little getaway. Guaranteed to see some wildlife. If you like Indian motifs, this place is very nice for a couple of couples retreat.

Vered and I are two souls that love the outdoors. We climb mountains and hike all over the nation and internationally. We have climbed Mt. Rainier, Mt. Washington and Mesada in Israel. We're always looking for an adventure!
Why they chose this property
We were in Gatlinburg just passively looking at properties. We came across the one here at 991 Stans Road and fell in love with the potential. We refurbished it but still have big plans...for instance a waterfall with hot tub on the edge near the big windows. We want this to be our oasis because we love the area...it's like living a vacation!
What makes this property unique
'Secondhand Lions' is uniquely positioned. It is close to just about everything...not far up the mountain....just right! It's cozy but very spacious...very relaxing while viewing nature out of all those windows.
