The Neighborhood:
The offbeat Marigny district is known for its Cajun bistros, bohemian bars and jazz clubs, especially along Frenchmen Street. Sidewalk musicians and brass bands add a block party vibe to the nighttime Frenchmen Art Market, which sells local artwork and handicrafts. Buildings are covered in large murals, and street art alike. People walk, stroll, parade and bike around as much as drive.

Quieter spots include Washington Square where the lawns are shaded by old oak trees.

From fixer-uppers to the most exquisite renovations, the Marigny New Orleans neighborhood offers an amazing selection of traditional, local architecture.

Snuggled in between the French Quarter and Bywater neighborhoods, the Marigny was a long-time community of artists and performers. As prices have increased, it’s become much more in-demand with more than just the creative segment of the city. Some of the larger homes have been stunningly transformed into stellar examples of southern living. Double galleries, hidden saltwater pools, and courtyards to rival any.

It can be tough to find off-street parking, especially closer to the Quarter, but those unicorns do exist for the right price. Street parking is the norm in this neighborhood that was carved out of a plantation in the early 1800s and developed by Creole landowner Bernard de Marigny.

The most famous street in the neighborhood is definitely Frenchmen Street. Home to live music clubs and restaurants, it’s no longer a local secret. Instead, tourists are now flocking to the area as an alternative to Bourbon Street. More laid back, with a wide selection of local musicians performing, living near or on Frenchmen means living with a lot of foot traffic in your section. Here’s where we give you our lecture about not moving into an area known for live music clubs and then complaining to the city about the noise.

Getting Around:
Take the Rampart streetcar to get to the foot of Canal street where you can take a transfer to the French Quarter. The French Quarter along with Frenchman Street are both in walking distance.

Street parking is limited to two hours during the day in front of the building. Parking is very limited in the French Quarter and the Marigny; however, there is street parking on the other side of N Rampart.

Great space and location for walking tour of New Orleans

Very clean, well-kept unit. Perfect for up to 4 people. Felt like being a resident in the historic Marginy neighborhood. Easy walk to Frenchman Street in Marigny to see great, off-the-beaten path jazz venues. 10 min walk to main part of French Quarter. No car rental or Uber needed.

Nice stay in Marigny

When we first pulled up I wasn't sure if we were at the right place as it seemed to be a little bit sketchy of a neighborhood from where we entered from, but once we went inside it was well appointed. It is a small place but they use the best of their space and it's very cute and clean. Having 2 bathrooms was a key with 4 of us. There is a bunk bed in the second bedroom, so it would be ideal if you are traveling with smaller kids. We didn't spend a lot of time there because we were out and about walking most places that we could. Once you walk a block or two towards Burgundy the neighborhood gets much better and it seems you can walk anywhere within or close to a mile distance to be in the heart of the French Quarter or Frenchman Street to listen to music. I would stay here again.

Nicely maintained property

We had a great stay here. The property was exactly as advertised – clean, well-maintained, and nicely equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The kitchen had all the essentials, and we appreciated the thoughtful touches like coffee filters and other small conveniences that made our time there even better. The space itself was well-organized and felt very welcoming. It was clear that a lot of care had gone into maintaining the property. That said, there were a couple of things that didn't quite match the description. The listing mentioned a grocery store across the street, but we didn’t find one anywhere nearby. Additionally, while the neighborhood was generally safe, it felt more inner-city than we expected, and the property was a bit farther from the hub of the French Quarter than the description suggested. The main attractions were over a mile away, which led to some additional costs with rides.Overall, though, we enjoyed our stay and the city.
