Our week at Beaver Pond was everything we needed. It was quiet, the kayaks and canoes were great, the beach backyard so convenient and nicely set up. The house had a great flow and plenty of room. Plus, Bridgton is a great little town with nice restaurants and shops. There's also lots of things to do and see within a 30 minute drive. We would definitely go back!
We all found the swimming and kayaking very excellent and the grand size of the building provided opportunities for children and grandparent and parents to each have separate spaces when necessary.
Wonderful spot to enjoy family time. Kids to grandparents all enjoyed the deck, pond, and common spaces. Kitchen was well equipped and spacious. Kayaks were great for the pond. Kids loved the foosball! Short drive to town for some cute restaurants or to pick up supplies. We would love to return, the house make for a relaxing few days.
The pond is peaceful and the view from the back deck is lovely. There is a beaver den near the lake house and every morning we would see the beavers swim by, along with loons, musk rat and lots of fish jumping.
We enjoyed spending time with friends. Spent a lot of time just sitting around the fire or sitting on the deck. The furniture and beds were all comfortable. Had most everything we needed. We did know to bring our own sheets but didn't remember we also needed to bring towels. So a quick trip to Renys fixed that. Overall, a lovely stay.
We had an AMAZING 4th of July weekend at Henry and Tom's place. The weather wasn't the best, but we made the most of it playing foosball in the basement and playing tons of indoor games and activities. The sun that we did have , we spent the entire time on the pond floating in the middle of pond and enjoying the slight breeze! The sandy beach along the pond was perfect to relax and play yard games, have a fire, and we even caught some fish right from the beach.
The rooms are all well appointed and the kitchen was larger than expecting which was perfect for our big group. Additionally, all of the rooms were larger than they appeared in photos, and everything was very clean and updated. Communication with the hosts was very easy and they were very quick to respond. They even told us we could check in any time we wanted on our day of check-in, which was really nice to be able to go early!
The only thing we were missing was a dish washer, but that’s not something we expected anyways when staying directly on the pond! We also went to The Barking Chicken, Fluvial Brewing, and BreakRoom248 (arcade bar) and we had wonderful experiences at all of those places. We will 100% be back again!!

dissappointed
Surprised to see a For Sale sign up when we arrived and trash scattered on ground.Apparently the home is being alittle neglected. He asks you enter thru garage, first impressions can tell a lot. The garage was filthy with outside debris, blinds were dirty and missing, work equipment all over, personal items scattered. inside the home was dirty. The refrigerator had hair in it and was dirty, counters and table were sticky. There was a large leak in the kitchen. The other home I rented had everything I would need, this one had no bathroom rugs to step out on etc.He was very accommodating however, he did send someone over to clean it better. However all they did was get the hair out of the refrigerator. Living room table was glass top and dirty along with the windows.Area rugs thru out were not vacuumed at all. This home has the potential to be beautiful and it is centrally located to everything. We made the best of it.I don't think I would use this site again for a rental property.
Stayed at this rental with my fiancé and 3 other couples (8 of us). Very spacious house and lovely living rooms with wood stove. One thing I didn’t know before booking is that no linens or towels are provided (no bath mat, bath towels, hand towels, kitchen towels, floor towels, sheets, pillow cases). To be honest had I known this before booking I would have kept looking. The place wasn’t as clean as I would have liked or expected as there was dog poop on the deck and some utensils were found dirty in the draw. The place has a lot of potential and sits in front of the lake with beautiful views but the furniture is very outdated. The leather couch is very warn, the TV in the main living room is technically smart but picture and connection is not super great and it’s a little hard to hear even with the volume turned up. The beds were comfortable enough but I did find a yellow stain on the mattress when we got there and stains on the carpet in the bottom room. There was a broom next to the wood stove that had duct tape on it holding it together which just made me question why it wouldn’t just get thrown out and a new broom put in it’s place. Same for toilet seats, not something expensive to spruce up the place instead of keeping old/ warn one in a rental. The taxidermy throughout the house didn’t bother me as I felt it just added to the Maine theme, but as others said something to keep in mind if it may bother you or your family. We only stayed for two nights and it got the job done but unless the furniture and bathrooms get updated we wouldn’t pick this place again. I will say, Henry the owner is very nice, very responsive and did acknowledge the items I brought up to him. The location of the property is also very convenient.
Big and well set up for a couple families. Ours was a Winter stay, and the house worked great for that (looks amazing for Summer, too). Very close to Shawnee and to town. Pond was smooth so the skating was good. Great wood stoves. Everyone had a blast.
Our grandkids all 5 of them loved it, they were a little nervous eat first about the taxidermy animals on the walls but got over it! House was clean and close to the mountain
We were really enjoyed the stayed. The house had everything we needed. Checkin process was super easy and the house is super nice. Henry was very responsive and helpful. We will definitely stay here again in next summer trip. Thank you Henry!
The house is great! Perfect for our stay with family friends. The view of the pond is amazing and loved that there are canoes, kayaks, lifejackets, and some sand toys available. We also really enjoyed the fire pit. The small town of Bridgton is nearby and very cute with variety of shops and restaurants.
Remember to pack towels for the kitchen as well as the bathroom. We didn't bring kitchen towels and it was a bit of a nusience.
What a perfect week stay on Beaver Pond. Yes the pond was full of weeds but you could stay in the sandy beach front or float around without any issues. The animals in the camp didn’t bother any of the kids they actually thought they were fun to say goodnight and good morning too! Henry was easy to communicate with. The house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and was perfect for larger groups with many levels of living space!
Plenty of room with 4 levels, a good size yard and beach. Very picturesque overlooking the lake and mountains. Perhaps the best appointed facility we have ever stayed at for both outdoor and indoor activities; not to mention anything you might need in the kitchen. Communications and followup with the owner couldn't have been better
We had a wonderful time at this house with our family! It was a spotless and well-kept home with plenty of space for everyone and everything we needed to cook our meals every day and relax. We had lovely sunset dinners on the porch in the evening while we watched beavers swimming by and loons. We loved the sandy beach area and access to the pond, which was clean and pleasant to swim in, as well as the boats and lifejackets to explore the water. We also enjoyed being so close to Bridgton, where we saw a movie, played on the Town Commons playground and enjoyed some ice cream, and surrounding towns, where we hiked Hawk Mountain and visited a brewery. Our kids LOVED the obstacle course at Pondicherry Park by the Lakes Environmental Association building. We had a few issues with spotty internet, which Henry was very helpful with, but it was also to be expected in this rural area of Maine. Our 5-year-olds did not mind the taxidermy. All in all, it was our best family vacation yet despite a few rainy days and we hope to come back again next summer!
Fantastic location and amenities for a family vacation
Lots to say about this wonderful vacation rental. First of all, the location of the property couldn’t be better. Only 10 minutes from Bridgton and all its small town pleasures: Reny’s, Bridgton Books, the Magic Lantern Theater, the drive-in, Pondicherry Park for an easy hike through a gorgeous forest, the Gazebo for ice cream and giant board games, Highland Lake for swimming. Highly recommend Ricky’s Diner for breakfast (try the homemade hash) and the Black Horse Tavern for dinner (delicious fried shrimp). Then it’s less than 30 minutes from Fryeburg for tubing on the Saco River and barbecue at the 302 West Smokehouse & Tavern. Story Land and North Conway are about 45 minutes away, both of which we enjoyed. Yes, my 19-year-old twins and their two friends all loved going to Story Land and “reliving” their childhood. It’s still fun for all ages.
Beaver Pond is wonderful for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. Not so great for swimming (bottom is really mucky) but we found the giant duck float in a shed attached to the house and enjoyed floating around on that. The side of the pond the house is on (East facing?) gets full sun, so you can stay out on the water all day if you want.
Inside, the house is spacious, well equipped, and clean. We brought our Roku to use with the TV but connection was spotty, so we ended up using the TV only for watching a couple of DVDs we had brought with us. The mattresses seemed very new and no one complained about being uncomfortable, as is often the case with rentals. We had to bring our own sheets, bath towels, and beach towels, but I didn’t really mind because I kind of prefer my own linens anyway. Don’t forget towels to use as bath mats and towels to use to dry dishes!
PLEASE NOTE: As the photos and reviews indicate, there are a LOT of animal heads on the walls. In fact, several more were added to the family room apparently after these photos were taken. And what the photos don’t show are the deer and bear heads on the bedroom walls. If this is the kind of thing that bothers you or your children, think twice before renting this property. My teens ended up naming the animal heads to make a game out of it for themselves. The rest of the decor is creative and totally appropriate for Maine. Someone sure had fun shopping!
Henry was easy to communicate with and very responsive to all my inquiries. All in all, we enjoyed our time on Beaver Pond.
Absolutely love our stay. Henry, the homeowner was super responsive and the place was very clean and ready for our stay upon arrival. Definitely would recommend.
This is a terrific home with so many activities to do on the property. The location was perfect for us as it was close enough to drive to the coast while also right near great hiking trails. We hope to be back!
My dad loves fishing and he must have caught 40 + fish over the course of the week. There is a sandy beach in the yard over looking the water. It is a little tough to get into the water from the yard due to a cement drop but there is a beach right next door to the property. We had this all to ourselves and we swam and launched the kayaks from here. The water was so clean. It is next to a somewhat busy road so you do hear a bit of road traffic at times. The property is very spacious and my toddler had plenty to do. There are a few neighbors down the lane but we never ran into any of them. The house is huge. It is a great set up with a laundry room, living room area and bed and bath on the lowest two floors. We had a couple stay down there and it was very private for them. They had to work a few mornings and we never even heard them doing their zoom meetings. This also walks out to the back yard. The main floor has a very large living room and dining area. The kitchen is also open to this area so it’s nice to be able to socialize while cooking. The only possible negative, which is apparent from the pictures, is the many animal heads on the walls. They are pretty much in every room so if this sort of thing bothers you a lot, this is not the place for you. The top level had two very spacious bedrooms and one smaller bedroom. The deck is huge and has an incredible view. It is off the kitchen. We spent every night having a bon fire and firewood was very easy to find in the area.
There are many lakes and ponds which seem easily accessible in the area. The little downtown is very cute and we had a wonderful time at the Depot Street Tap house for drinks and Vivo Italian kitchen for dinner. Both had outside seating. There are also some hiking trails downtown which go over a nice wood bridge and trails in the woods. This was perfect for my three year old. We spent a few days hiking area mountains and had a good hike up Black Cap Mountain which was ok for my toddler and older parents. The more athletic adults in our group were able to find more challenging mountains in the area. Only about 30 minutes away is North Conway and we had a great time there. Many shops and places to stop for food and drinks. We were unable to get into Echo lake as some of the outdoor parks and trails require reservations due to Covid.
Overall this was a great spot. It was more than comfortable for our group of six adults and one toddler. Henry was easy to work with
Beautiful home which was well equipped right on the shore of Beaver Pond. Grandchildren (2), ages 3 and 7, loved all the levels in the home and playspace available to them. Reccomend highly! Communication with owner was prompt and helpful
Overall we had a very good time. The private access to the pond was amazing as were the views. This is a real gem of a property.
A few things to note:
The host was super helpful. They provided us with 2 kayaks, a canoe, and four HUGE floaters. The host paid me back when the grill ran out of propane. The host called a technician when the internet went out.
The lake is amazing. It gets super quiet and flat at night which is perfect for an after dinner swim or kayak trip.
The house has a lot of animal heads on the walls. We didn’t notice them in the photos, and upon arrival they scared all of our kids.
The house was low on essentials like paper towels and toilet paper.
There’s a fair amount of road noise. Nothing too bad but it felt a bit out of place to hear a semi engine braking while kayaking.
My family and I had a wonderful time at the lakehouse. The lake is extremely quiet and peaceful, and we kayaked and swam every day. Also caught some good sized bass! The location is super convenient - restaurants and a grocery store are less than 10 minutes away. The house is spacious and clean as well. Henry was extremely responsive when a few questions popped up. I highly recommend staying here.

About the host
Hosted by Henry DeMello
We are a family that have entertained and enjoyed this house and its beautiful surroundings since 1997. We have entertained adults and children (ages ranging from newborns to 82) here and all have enjoyed it. It truly is an oasis, a place to rejuvenate you mentally, physically and spiritually. I am certain you will enjoy every minute there.
Why they chose this property
Not only is the property located on a beautiful spot but it is also beautiful within. The house was just completely remodeled in 2008; from bathrooms to kitchen to the deck and bedrooms. It was done with a sense of style and comfort for all those who stay in it. I don't know what season is the best to stay. In summer it is so much fun to light a fire and sit by the water enjoying a drink and family and friends. In winter taking walks on the frozen lake and enjoying a nice wood fire in the woodstove. In Fall taking the canoe around the lake and watching the leaves change. In Spring taking long hikes to see the rebirth of life. Honestly, it is a place of rejuvenation and relaxation to be enjoyed with family and friends.
