About this property
Serene Luxury Coastal Retreat, Dock, Kayaks, Fishing, Wildlife, Exceptional View
Sea River Retreat boasts 10+ acres and 600 ft of waterfront on the Bagaduce River. It's serene waters, reversing falls, woodlands and fields, attracts a plethora of wildlife including harbor seals, otters, waterfowl, wading birds, bald eagles, wild turkeys, deer and more. Explore the 12 mile river by kayak, or walk the quiet neighborhood roads of Johnson Point. Three well appointed accommodations provide ample space and comfort in and out for fun and relaxation for family and friends to gather.

SEA RIVER RETREAT has three+ separate accommodations: The Perch & The Nest (Main House), The Majabigwaduce Meeting House (Recreation / Meeting House) and Tidewater Cabin (Guest Cottage).
PERCH & NEST: The main residence is a 4,600-sf versatile layout as either a spacious single home or 2 semi-private accommodations, The Perch and The Nest. The Perch is the original log cabin home with beamed and vaulted ceilings, where ample skylights cast sun rays across its warm pine walls. Central is the family room with a cobblestone fireplace, kitchenette and dining / sitting area and office, as well as three delightful bedrooms and two baths. Take a few steps down past the privacy door that opens to a magnificent newer addition to the home, The Nest. Large windows cover the near entirety of the water-facing sides of the home, capturing one of the area’s most scenic views on the Bagaduce - from near every room. The gourmet kitchen, breakfast nook, living room, and formal dining room are stunning. They include a stone-surround fireplace, fully-equipped wet bar, coffee bar, galley workstation, prep room, including walk-out access to the patio. The primary bedroom suite features a sitting area, private balcony, and large bath with dual sinks and soaking tub. A spacious, finished basement offering the second bedroom suite with sitting area, has additional beds / sleeping areas when needed.
MAJABIGWADUCE MEETING HOUSE: This original 2,500-sf custom art studio is flooded with natural light from large clerestory windows providing for an open and airy space to gather. With a sitting area, two bedrooms, bath and kitchenette, along with an expansive open space, it serves a variety of uses. Whether for overflow accommodations, recreation (even pickle ball & corn hole), special “micro” events, meetings or simply a gathering hub, the options are endless.
TIDEWATER CABIN: This charming cabin sits at the water’s edge and provides close up views of the sights and sounds of the river wildlife, flowing water and reversing falls. Along with the shimmering seawater reflecting through the windows, the “bottle wall” that casts a rainbow of light across the vaulted ceilings, or the glimmer from the flames of the cast iron gas stove, the cabin is magical. From combined living room and kitchen, to bedroom, ¾ bath, and sleeping attic by ladder (careful, it’s steep!) it has everything you need.
THE GROUNDS: For the outdoor enthusiast, a dock, complete with a 10′ x 36′ float, offers seamless access for boating, kayaking, paddle-boarding, and fishing. Beyond the rolling lawns and gardens, the property features two woodsheds, garden shed, a campfire area, and a suspended two-story treehouse. Situated on a private 1.5-mile long no-outlet road, perfect for leisurely walks and life away from the hustle and bustle.
STONINGTON ACCESS: Guests of Sea River Retreat also have parking and kayak privilege at our other home in Stonington, Maine - Maine’s largest lobstering village and premier kayaking waters.
THE AREA: Penobscot is a picturesque and rural community on the Blue Hill Peninsula just outside the town of Blue Hill. It is home to both Penobscot Bay and the 12 mile long Bagaduce River, Maine’s most prolific estuary / sea river. In addition to the coastal influence, Penobscot has several lakes, rivers and trails. It is centrally located with convenient access to Blue Hill, Castine, Bucksport, Belfast, Deer Isle, Stonington and Acadia National Park.
