About this property

Lovely 2-bedroom condo nestled in lodgepole pines in downtown Winter Park

Discover the beauty of Winter Park from Forest Haven, a beautiful, thoughtfully appointed two-bedroom condo, which is a three minute walk from the finest restaurants in town and the main station for bus lines to the ski area (this means far more frequent bus arrivals than outlying properties). Our spacious place features 1 queen bed, 1 bunk bed (double bed width) with attached child trundle bed, perfect for families or friends looking for a beautiful retreat in a gem of a low density, peaceful and quiet, forested setting right downtown. With heated floors in both bathrooms, WiFi, hot tub and sauna on site, guests can unwind and truly relax during their stay. Our warm home will help you feel relaxed while you're traveling in Winter Park. They don't make buildings like this anymore - the solid concrete architecture insulates and ensures a grounded and peaceful space.
Most condos in downtown Winter Park face and view parking lots or a busy street, and they are high-rise/high-density - conversely, our six-foot high windows and windowed front door open to the forest floor without balcony barriers... this is a rare gem in the midst of lodgepole pine and aspen in the center of Winter Park. An occasional bear (they tend to be very gentle, but please do not feed, nor approach) may saunter past the windows on autumn evenings.

Children (and adults!) may sled on the slope next to the condo. You may XC ski or bike straight from the condo to world-class trails, or hop on the free bus (or, drive for five minutes) to Winter Park/Mary Jane for amazing downhill skiing/touring/racing. This is also a perfect retreat for an artist or writer (owners are skiers, painters, parents, and poets, lovers of forested places, community and tranquility).

In the summer, walk to Winter Park town concerts, outdoor skatepark, childrens' park in five minutes. A+ location. Or, sit in the Adirondack chairs next to your front door and soak in the music from Winter Park's High Note Thursdays or Summer Music Series. Rest in a hammock in the pines surrounding our home, or cast a line in the stream meters from the front door (property is waterfront).

0.1 miles from the center of the Town of Winter Park.

Though I was born in the Midwest, I moved to Colorado three days after college for the transcendent experience of skiing and for the gorgeous alpine summers. This condo is a sanctuary for our family and we have known such peace and joy within these walls. We hope that you will experience peace and joy here as well!

I think that Oprah Winfrey said this (I didn't know that she skis!), that "skiing is the next best thing to having wings," and this speaks deeply to me - I've dreamt of having a retreat in the high country, close to skiing and alpine air for a long, long while, and it's taken a lot of hard work and imagination to land here. It's a dream, and I'm forever grateful to my parents for taking my brother and me to see beautiful places in the world, for supporting so many hopes and for fostering goodness in the world. I wish that they were still here to see all of this, to join us in this space.
I love creating community and place for connection, belonging, and joy - I hope that some of this translates to hosting you in our condo. May you experience happiness and tranquility here.

Why they chose this property

This property drew us in for the location in the towering pines, a rare forested oasis in downtown Winter Park. We love and feel restored by the quiet, low-density setting (most of the condos are owner-occupied, and there are only five units in our building). Aspen leaves whisper (or, they make elusive magical sounds that seem to defy description) for three seasons outside the front door. We have immediate walking access to town - the bakery/coffee shop, bank, post office, grocery/market, wine shop, free ski shuttle, restaurants and shops are only moments away on foot (three to five minutes or so). The children love playing in the forest, making downhill car (hot wheel) tracks in the forest and fishing in the summer, sledding on property (in helmets!) and skiing in the winter. We depart for mountain bike rides (up Vasquez Rd.) right from our property in the autumn and summer. We love cooking together (the open floor plan is ideal for this), watching the light filter through the surrounding trees as we chop and mix.
We sit by the stream at the edge of the property to draw and paint and dream when the weather is warm, and soak in the quiet and wonder of deep snow in winter. Our family connections always deepen during times in this lovely condo, and we spend time playing board games (provided) and curling up on the giant sofa to watch movies together after a day outside (the slow cooker can help keep things seamless so that you can enjoy family time more).
If you bring your yoga mat, you can stretch in the early morning light (the front door and windows face East). Or slip down the path (in winter) to the hot tub hut, just a few steps away.
In brief, this condo is a sanctuary for us, and we hope that you might soak in some of the magic of the space too!

What makes this property unique

Our real estate agent described this home as a unicorn - properties in this setting rarely appear for sale, as it's downtown, yet surrounded by trees rather than asphalt and dense, mass-produced construction. The architecture of Forest Haven is very solid, composed primarily of concrete, and though it's not quite the ancient Roman Pantheon (second century CE), nor the soaring Sydney Opera House, nor Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater - all of these are concrete structures - it's home, and there is something very grounding about the architecture and setting alike.
