About this property
Tangerine Dream - History and Beach
Centrally located just minutes away from the beach, you’ll find Tangerine Dream. Nestled in a quiet neighborhood close to dining and attractions, this colorful home sits on an oversized lot with a huge backyard.
As colorful as Tangerine Dream is on the outside, it’s nothing to the colorful yet tasteful décor inside. A tropical vibe permeates each room with walls painted in pale hues of yellow and orange enhancing the feeling of the tropics.
Furnishings were meticulously chosen to ensure you feel not only welcome but at home during your stay. As you explore the home, you’ll find two bedrooms featuring luxurious bedding and, as you look around, you’ll wish it was night already so you can sink into the soft, comfortable beds. The primary bedroom has an ensuite bath featuring a walk-in shower and plenty of storage space. The guest bedroom also features an ensuite bath with a shower/tub combo and plenty of storage space. A third bedroom has been turned into a great workspace for those whose work just wouldn't stay at home. Whether your stay is a few weeks or a few months, Tangerine Dream is an excellent choice.
Tangerine Dream is located in Ormond Beach, an area rich in history. The rail line to Ormond Beach was finished in 1886 with the first bridge over the Halifax River completed in 1887. The builders of the bridge envisioned a hotel on the beach and, in 1888, the Hotel Ormond opened with 75 luxurious rooms. In 1890, it was purchased by railway magnate Henry Flagler who expanded it and added a railroad bridge giving passengers direct access to the property. While the hotel is no longer there, one of its guests had an idea that would change the area forever.
While strolling along the beach, JF Hathaway could feel how firm the sand was and wanted to drive his automobile on the beach. Watching a bicycle race on the beach in 1902 gave him the idea of sponsoring an automobile race on the beach. He and two others, including the original builders of Hotel Ormond, sponsored the first race in 1903. In 1904, Henry Flagler got in on the action and built a garage just east of the hotel for the purpose of housing the racing cars. The last beach race was held in 1959 but this was not the end of auto racing in the area. In 1959, the construction of Daytona International Speedway was completed and racing enthusiasts have been flocking here ever since.
