About the host
Your host

I am a lifelong Alaskan and have spent the last 28 years as a special education teacher. This year, I’m retiring and looking forward to traveling and enjoying more of the great outdoors that I’ve always loved. As part of this new chapter, I’m opening my home to visitors looking for a comfortable place to relax during Alaska’s busy tourist season. Whether you’re here for adventure or simply to unwind, you’re welcome to enjoy a peaceful stay in true Alaskan hospitality.
Why they chose this property
This area of Anchorage is known as Spenard, named after Joe Spenard. It’s a part of town rich with history, especially being so close to the airport and Lake Hood — home to the world’s largest floatplane base. Before Anchorage even got its name, this area was known as Spenard, Alaska. There’s a unique charm here, with a blend of old Alaska and easy access to all the adventures the city and wilderness have to offer
What makes this property unique
My home was built in 1964 — the same year as the big Alaska earthquake — and it’s a cozy ranch-style house with an eclectic feel. I’ve always loved blending the past with the present, and over the past five years, I’ve been remodeling and updating the home while keeping its charm.
Being so close to Lake Hood, you’ll often see and hear small planes flying overhead — a little piece of Alaskan life! The large, fenced backyard is perfect for relaxing, with a fire pit and a small deck where you can sit back and enjoy the outdoors.
The location is super convenient — within walking distance to several local restaurants, a playground, bike and walking trails, a bus stop, and a handy convenience store. Plus, we’re just 1.5 miles from the airport, making it easy for travelers. It’s a great spot to unwind.
