Great long-term stay

This is a lovely, well-appointed home in a quiet neighborhood. Very walkable, with good access to public transportation. Owner was out-going and responsive. I enjoyed my stay immensely.

Wonderful place!

This was the perfect place for our trip to Portland. It's in a quiet area and walking distance to just about anything you'd need. We loved the original feel of the house and will certainly try to secure it again for our next trip to Portland.

Cute and comfortable

The house is adorable, with comfortable seating in the living room and a great, well-stocked kitchen (including things like teas and cooking oils). I hadn't read the details closely enough to realize one bedroom had a queen, one has a full, and downstairs there is a twin and a toddler bed (so I wanted to write it out in case anyone else misses the small print). There is also a full sized futon in the living room, but since we were trying to house 3 couples and one small child, it wasn't the easiest set up to manage, but it all worked out. There were some toys and kids' books around, which was nice if traveling with young kids.

It's business. It's not personal.

I get it - the owners of this property are soundly anti-consumerist. That's why the house is filled with antiques - antique plumbing (had to use a plunger every morning,) antique appliances, etc. This is most definitely a budget rental, although you wouldn't know that from the prices charged, nor from the property description on the internet. Everything about it mitigates against the comfort of the visitor. From the toilet seat that was a second away from falling off to the very scary steep stairs down to the washing machines with no hand railing, and frayed carpet to boot, and on to the sofa that was falling apart, and the teensy low-end tv. Maybe there are people who like to relax and watch a DVD after a busy day. Why not put something back into the upkeep of the place? My husband and I had to buy two new pillows and a hand massager because we were so sore after spending a few nights in the house. I attempted to have my payment returned after having a coughing fit and finding tennis ball-sized dust bunnies under my bed, but the owner was deeply offended that I disparaged her childhood home and her "blessed" mother. Yes, her mum left muffins for us, and fresh flowers, even gave us a few coffee beans; I thank her for that. This may be someone's idea of a home away from home, but it's definitely not mine. I didn't find it "cute" or "quaint," just uncomfortable. (Nice collection of books, though.) If you're in a service industry, treat it like a business, and don't get personally insulted by criticism; it's not professional. Whatever happened to "the customer is always right"? The owner threatened to keep our security deposit because of the "strange and disgusting" way we left the place. It's their job to clean their property, and this is the first time in many, many years of travel that we've ever had something like this said to us. I would not recommend this place to anyone I liked.

Central Location in Slowly Gentrifying Neighborhood

We are former owners (10 years) of a vacation rental and take reviews very seriously. I was going to just give the review title with no explanation, but was told by friends that they need an honest review when looking for a rental. Communication with the owner after 1st night: No box grater for grating cheese? Rusty whisk in the utensil drawer? Lamp shade in bedroom broken at the top, with a jagged glass edge. Unusable grill: the grate is very rusted out and needs replacement. We looked all over, and found no grill cleaning brush or grilling utensils. Pillows are flat as pancakes and definitely need frequent replacing. Where can we find the patio umbrella, as shown in website photo to shield ourselves from the sun? Hair dryer missing. As advertised in the property description, one of the specifics in our renting the house was the two full baths. However, the pipe in the downstairs shower is capped off, as not to be used in the time we are at the house, correct? RE: Owner response to the two full baths that we paid for: "I must mention I am dismayed with this situation, as we have had almost all happy guests. If you continue to be dissatisfied with our home, we can discuss the possibility of offering you a partial refund if you would like to find another place to stay." Seriously....a partial refund to find new accommodations at the height of summer tourist season in Portland. Unacceptable!!! RE: Owner response to pillows that were not only ALL flat, but ALL terribly stained with perspiration. These should be checked throughout the season and replaced, as necessary: Pillows: I am surprised because we replaced 4 pillows in the house during our visit last summer. If the pillows on the bed you are sleeping on (assuming it's the master?) are uncomfortable, feel free to exchange them with others (downstairs, or 2 in the linen closet on at the top shelf, etc.) Patio umbrella was locked in shed. It was taken out, put in the table, but we would be responsible for taking it in if it rained. Lamp shade never replaced. Washing machine left clothes stained. Rusty whisk/hairdryer/grill equipment/ant problem addressed. Hopefully all pillows have been replaced. Walmart sells pillows for $5.99! Owner had us over a barrel for the 15 day stay, and requested FULL PAYMENT at time of booking. Rental money must be put into a property, not just taken out!

Great Portland house.

We had a wonderful stay in this quaint house. It became our home away from home. Though quite small for a family with three kids (there are just two small separate bedrooms and a basement room), it was very cozy and had everything we needed including toys and so many great kids books! We thoroughly enjoyed them. And the garden was perfect with its space, fruit, and veg plants for us to harvest... so many figs, plums, pears, grapes! It was great. Karin was a fantastic hostess, available at every emergency, or question, and really just very helpful. Thank you!

Great stay in a cozy home

My family and I stayed here for 3 months while in town for work. It's a very cute place with an incredible yard. Amazing food carts on Killingsworth 5 minutes away and a Safeway at the end of the block. Alberta Park and the shops and restaurants on Alberta are only about a 15 minute walk. Overall we really liked the location. Communication with the owner Amanda and Karin Anna - the property manager - was a delight the entire time. We felt very welcomed and thought-after throughout the stay. Karen welcomed us with croissants, always let us know when she or the gardeners needed to come by, and even dropped off a few gifts for our toddler! As a family there were plenty of toys and books for our little dude and space for him to play. The only catch was that in the small bedroom right off the kitchen he kept hearing us doing dishes, etc, so we had to move him to sleep downstairs in the basement room. But once he was settled in down there it worked out perfectly for us. Overall very happy with our stay here. Thank you Amanda and Karen!

Great for a long stay!

I stayed here for a few months with 3 friends while our university was conducting classes virtually—the house was cozy, clean, and had every household and kitchen appliance you would need. We especially loved all the walking-distance parks and that the grocery store was just 2 blocks away. Amanda and her mom Karin were great hosts! I’d happily stay here again, and can’t recommend it enough for anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient stay in Portland :)

Fantastic house!

We had a great time being able to stay in this house. Definitely a doable house. We appreciated the kitchen items that were available to use. The manager even left us Coffee, OJ and Croissants! I Highly recommend staying in this house. The only down fall was that the two bedrooms upstairs on the main level were a bit snug but old houses are like that! Loved the location as well!

Great girlfriends getaway!

The house provided us four adults with ideal accommodations for our girlfriends getaway. It had everything we needed for a relaxing long weekend. The house was easily accessible on foot and by car to many indpendently owned shops and restaurants that we wanted to explore. The house was clean and well equipped for our stay. The owners and host were both communicative and helpful. We highly recommend this home for a family or adult getaway.

Awesome, tidy, roomy, felt like home!

So easy to get in and out and it felt just like home. Everything we needed was there, plus an added bonus of some croissants!! There were 2 couples staying there and there was more than enough room for us. I would stay again. Also, neighborhood was nice and plenty to do within 10 minutes walking - parks, grocery stores and restaurants! Thanks!!

Cute, Quiet and Quaint

We had a great stay. We were met right on time with instructions and keys for our stay and before and after communication was perfect. The fresh orange juice, coffee, pastries and flowers were a nice touch. The location was close to all, neighbors were quiet and by the way, the weather was beautiful. I can’t remember if the description mentioned the fact that there was no TV but we were fine since we were so busy and neither of us are big TV watchers. The home was full of some amazing books. Thank you for your hospitality. 

Felt Like Home

My colleague and I were attending training all week. The training was very intense so we very much enjoyed winding down in the back yard. This was so much better than a hotel. There were some very nice touches that you don't get at every VRBO. There were vases of fresh flowers in several rooms, good coffee and orange juice. The kitchen is well appointed if you wish to cook meals at the house. The house is an easily walkable distance from a beautiful park with a very large rose garden and some very interesting restaurants that we only able to try a few of.

Great home away from home.

This home is in a convenient and quiet area of Portland. It had everything we needed to ensure a comfortable stay. The place is spotlessly clean and charming. Staying here was like being in a home of a friend who takes great care of the house. Karin Anna kept in contact and was flexible in making sure everything went well. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this home.

Charming and comfortable

The accommodations and hosting were excellent. Comfortable furniture for conversation and a well equipped kitchen (for the little cooking we did). We were 4 people and two wanted their own rooms so we used the basement bedroom - which had quirky access but was quite comfortable. Alberta, Mississippi, and Williams Ave. restaurants and shops were very walkable in good weather. We will definitely be back.

Adorable Bungalow, Indeed!

Wow! What a lovely home. My immediate family stayed here for a mini-reunion while my sister-in-law attended a week long conference at the Convention Center. The house was in great condition, everything was very neat and clean. The home was well furnished and had everything we needed to cook delicious meals together (very short walk to Safeway.) My 17 month old nephew was also with us and there were children's toys and books galore! There was also a pack n play, high chair and stroller available which we took full advantage of. There was a washer and dryer in the basement that we had access to and used as well. Amanda and Karin were quick to respond to questions regarding our stay and made check in and check out a breeze. The home is close to multiple bus lines, making the public transit commute the the Convention Center and the rest of the city very easy. It is also a short walk to darling Alberta and Killingsworth if you want to explore by foot. I would recommend this property to anyone! Thanks again!

Cute and cozy bungalow

We weren't sure if this cute 3 bdrm, 2 bath bungalow would be able to handle 5 adults, but we soon found it to be cozy and comfortable for our needs. The house was nicely decorated with lots of live healthy plants and a cozy nook to read or talk. It's in a quiet neighborhood in the NE area of town with shopping close by on Alberta and Mississippi streets with easy access to downtown. It works great for a couple or small family. Dan
